Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
is a severe, chronic, disabling, and potentially lethal psychiatric condition. People who suffer with this disorder have extreme and long standing instability in their emotional lives, as well as in their behavior and their self-image. This is a common disorder affecting 2% of the general population. The best evidence indicates that about 11% of psychiatric outpatients and 19% of inpatients meet diagnostic criteria for BPD. Despite the devastating nature of this disorder, it has not received the scientific and clinical attention that other health and psychiatric problems of equal, or even lesser, level of disability have received. To learn more about BPD click here The Borderline Personality Disorder Research Foundation (BPDRF) is a non-profit organization that supports international research on the underlying causes, characteristics, and treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD). The Goals
Defining BPD as an entity and refining the diagnostic criteria of the disorder.

Web Site Dedication
This web site is dedicated to the liver of life, the seeker of more, and to all of you who, like I, were wounded, have incurred many heart-wrenching losses, endured much pain and still search for a better, happier and more peaceful way. It is there for the finding. It must first be found from deep within yourself. Each one of us will identify a different, individual "happier" or more "peaceful". To look for something that we might think others have or "everyone else" has is to fool ourselves into suffering needlessly based upon cognitively distorted and unworthy comparisons. All you have to do, is follow your path on your journey in your life. For your way, is the right way for you.

Borderline Personality Disorder
(BPD) is a relative newcomer in the field of diagnosable psychiatric illnesses. The individual with the disorder and his or her family usually find themselves in need of multiple support systems due to the complexities of the diagnosis. The Borderline Personality Disorder Resource Center (BPDRC) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College has been set up specifically to help those impacted by the disorder find the most current and accurate information on the nature of BPD, and on sources of available treatment. BPD is both a complex and confusing illness for the sufferers and for those who care about them. However, given the right treatment and support, there is hope for change and an improved quality of life.

BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER
Diagnosis
A person with a borderline personality disorder often experiences a repetitive pattern of disorganization and instability in self-image, mood, behavior and close personal relationships. This can cause significant distress or impairment in friendships and work. A person with this disorder can often be bright and intelligent, and appear warm, friendly and competent. They sometimes can maintain this appearance for a number of years until their defense structure crumbles, usually around a stressful situation like the breakup of a romantic relationship or the death of a parent.

Borderline Personality Disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most controversial diagnoses in psychology today. Since it was first introduced in the DSM, psychologists and psychiatrists have been trying to give the somewhat amorphous concepts behind BPD a concrete form. Kernberg's explication of what he calls Borderline Personality Organization is the most general, while Gunderson, though a psychoanalyst, is considered by many to have taken the most scientific approach to defining BPD. The Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines and the DIB-Revised were developed from research done by Gunderson, Kolb, and Zanarini. Finally, there is the "official" DSM-IV definition. Some researchers, like Judith Herman, believe that BPD is a name given to a particular manifestation of post-traumatic stress disorder: in Trauma and Recovery, she theorizes that when PTSD takes a form that emphasizes heavily its elements of identity and relationship disturbance, it gets called BPD; when the somatic (body) elements are emphasized, it gets called hysteria, and when the dissociative/deformation of consciousness elements are the focus, it gets called DID/MPD. Others believe that the term "borderline personality" has been so misunderstood and misused that trying to refine it is pointless and suggest instead simply scrapping the term.

SPLITTING: Protecting Yourself While Divorcing a Borderline or Narcissist Stop Walking on Eggshells Stop Walking on Eggshells Workbook Love and Loathing (For Parents) ... Notice What is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)? A borderline writes:
"Being a borderline feels like eternal hell. Nothing less. Pain, anger, confusion, hurt, never knowing how I'm gonna feel from one minute to the next. Hurting because I hurt those who I love. Feeling misunderstood. Analyzing everything. Nothing gives me pleasure. Once in a great while I will get "too happy" and then anxious because of that. Then I self-medicate with alcohol. Then I physically hurt myself. Then I feel guilty because of that. Shame. Wanting to die but not being able to kill myself because I'd feel too much guilt for those I'd hurt, and then feeling angry about that so I cut myself or O.D. to make all the feelings go away. Stress!" Therapists use a book called "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual" (DSM) to make mental health diagnoses. They've outlined nine traits that borderlines seem to have in common; the presence of five or more of them may indicate BPD.

Max and Oscar are missing. =( - See thier missing posters by clicking on their names. **NOTE** It's been a while since I have worked on my site - I am sorry about that. I am planning on removing broken links and working on things over the next month so hopefully things here will be brighter by the end of the summer. I have taken a chance and have created a page here all about me. This site came in to creation in several ways. I am a survivor of child abuse, both physical and sexual abuse as well as the emotional abuse that came hand in hand with what they did to me. I also am healing and surviving from a sexual assault. After the assault, I spent many hours searching the web for information on how to survive this horrible thing that had happened. I found lots of information on prevention and lots of technical things but not a whole lot on surviving. This was back in late 1995. So, when I found geocities and saw that they offered a free web page service, I was excited. It gave me the possiblity to create the type of site that I had been searching for. So, Mollykat's Resources for Survivors was created.

Borderline Personality Disorder
Raising questions, finding answers
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual's sense of self-identity. Originally thought to be at the "borderline" of psychosis, people with BPD suffer from a disorder of emotion regulation. While less well known than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), BPD is more common, affecting 2 percent of adults, mostly young women. There is a high rate of self-injury without suicide intent, as well as a significant rate of suicide attempts and completed suicide in severe cases.
