In Ten Days to Self-esteem, Dr. David Burns presents innovative, clear, and compassionate methods that will help you identify the causes of your mood slumps and develop a more positive outlook on life. You will learn that. You FEEL the way you THINK: Negative feelings like guilt, anger, and depression do not result from the bad things that happen to you, but from the way you think about these events. This simple but revolutionary idea can change your life!
"Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life: How Dialectical Behavior Therapy Can Put You in Control (Click on Picture to purchase from Amazon.com) Many of us know the awful predicament of losing control of our emotions. We may not be clinically "crazy" but instead "high reactors," experiencing overpowering feelings that knock us off balance, plunge us into depression, make us fly off the handle, or terrify us without warning. When we are regularly undone by our emotions, we become victims of damaged relationships, trapped circumstances, self-sabotage, and illness. In this breakthrough new workbook, a therapist who has had amazing results treating patients who have problems managing their emotions, helps all of us gain the upper hand on our feelings and our lives.

Overview of Borderline Personality Disorder
The Personality Disorders Institute offers the following information to the general public to enhance awareness of the particulary challenging psychiatric conditions known as borderline disorders or borderline personalities. Many patients struggle not only with symptoms such as depression, anxieties, obsessions or phobias for which help is typically sought, but also with control of emotion and agression, understanding of self, and tolerance of the treatment process. The discussion leads you through diagnosis , focusing on history and symptoms, and possible causes treatments and outcomes Contact and emergency information follows. I. DIAGNOSIS
The term "borderline" goes back a long way. For centuries, European society excluded people regarded as "insane" from normal life, confining them to asylums or driving them from one town to another. By the 18th century, a few doctors were beginning to study the people in asylums, and discovered that some of these patients had, by no means, lost the powers of reason: they had a normal grasp of what was real and what wasn't, but they suffered terribly from emotional anguish through their impulsiveness, ragefulness, and a general difficulty in self-government caused others to suffer. They seemed to live in a borderland between outright insanity and normal behavior and feeling.

‘I wish I had never been diagnosed with BPD. With another diagnosis yet similar behaviour I was treated so differently. Possibly the most painful part of this illness (I will call it that) is the discrimination. And the only reason for this is the diagnosis, not the way I feel, behave or speak, because that was the same before.’ Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a controversial diagnosis. This booklet aims to help people to understand when the diagnosis might be given and its consequences. It suggests sources of help for those diagnosed with this problem, their friends and relatives.
What is borderline personality disorder?
BPD is one of many personality disorders listed in the manuals used by clinicians when they are giving someone a psychiatric diagnosis. The word 'personality' refers to the ongoing pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviour that makes us who we are. A personality disorder may be diagnosed when it's felt that several areas of someone's personality are causing them or others problems in everyday life. This diagnosis is very controversial, because it implies that someone's whole personality is flawed - rather than just one aspect of them. Some psychiatrists argue that it's impossible to treat someone's personality and that it's wrong to apply medical terms and treatments to a personality. This means it’s usually the symptoms of BPD that are treated, rather than the disorder as a whole. (See

Topic deviation or content deemed unacceptable by members is expected to be addressed by the indivdual. However, this forum is expected to be a safe and supportive environement thus the modorator strongly encourages any member who is upset by a post to take at least 24 hours before responding. Remember that we all are doing the best we can even when our best doesn't appear to be very good, and there are human beings on the other end of these posts. Please feel free to post regarding the panorama of borderline behaviour and the related effects on ourselves and our relationships. Welcome to the group.

This page is all about Borderline Personality Disorder and includes my
Personal Borderline Story about how it is to live with Borderline Personality Disorder
The core disorder in BPD is emotional dysregulation. Emotional dysregulation is viewed as a joint outcome of biological disposition, environmental context, and the transaction between the two during development. The theory asserts that borderline individuals have difficulties in regulating several, if not all, emotions. This systemic dysregulation is produced by emotional vulnerability and by maladaptive and inadequate emotion modulation strategies. From: Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder. By Marsha Linehan. 1993
The symptoms of borderline patients are similar to those for which most people seek psychiatric help: depression, mood swings, the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol as a means of trying to feel better; obsessions, phobias, feelings of emptiness and loneliness, inability to tolerate being alone, problems about eating.
The one word that best characterizes borderline personality is "instability." Their emotions are unstable, fluctuating wildly for no discernible reason. Their thinking is unstablerational and clear at times, quite psychotic at other times. Their behavior is unstable, often with periods of excellent conduct, high efficiency and trustworthiness alternating with outbreaks of babyishness, suddenly quitting a job, withdrawing into isolation, failing.
