Steve Interviewed by Jim Reilly

October 22, 2001 A series of Jim Reilly's interviews with players, fans, and the people behind the scenes of the Chapman Stick. These interviews can be heard regularly on CFBX radio, 92.5 FM in Kamloops, B.C. Canada. Steve Adelson's
The Answer's Inside
What do you get when you combine one of the foremost Chapman Stick players with a seasoned group of New York musicians, and then throw in a couple of music legends?
If you are Steve Adelson, you get one of the most exciting and accessible CDs to feature The Chapman Stick. Steve's new album, "The Answer's Inside", picks up where his last disc Sailing Down the River, Sane leaves off, offering a feast of jazz forms and sounds. From the Latin influenced "Fran's Mambo" to the McCoy Tyner inspired "The Answer is Free," Steve has managed to fuse a tight, concise group sound that places the overall music ahead of virtuoso musicianship.
After a quick congratulations on the Yankee's 2-1 win over the Mariners and quicker geography lesson to locate just where my home town of Kamloops is in relation to New York, Steve and I got down to business. We spoke about the new album, making music with some really great players, the state of Stick playing in New York and looked towards the future. And those music legends Steve worked with? Don't worry we talked about Larry Coryell and Tony Levin as well. Jim Reilly: Let's start off with the new CD. What were your plans and goals going into the recording?

O'Reilly Hit With Sex Harass Suit
Female Fox coworker details lewd behavior of cable TV star
OCTOBER 13Hours after Bill O'Reilly accused her of a multimillion dollar shakedown attempt , a female Fox News producer fired back at the TV star today, filing a lawsuit claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment and spoke often, and explicitly, to her about phone sex, vibrators, threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and sexual fantasies. Below you'll find a copy of Andrea Mackris's complaint, an incredible page-turner that quotes O'Reilly, 55, on all sorts of lewd matters. Based on the extensive quotations cited in the complaint, it appears a safe bet that Mackris, 33, recorded some of O'Reilly's more steamy soliloquies. For example, we direct you to his Caribbean shower fantasies . While we suggest reading the entire document, TSG will point you to interesting sections on a Thailand sex show Al Franken , and the climax of one August 2004 phone conversation. JPython: The Felicitous Union of Python and Java
JPython is a recently released version of Python written entirely in Java by Jim Hugunin. JPython is a very exciting development for both the Python community and the Java community. Python users are happy that their current Python knowledge can transfer to Java-based development environments; Java programmers are happy that they can use the Python scripting language as a way to control their Java systems, test libraries, and learn about Java libraries from an interpreted environment. JPython is available from http://www.python.org/jpython , with license and distribution terms similar to those of CPython (which is what the reference implementation of Python is called when contrasted with JPython). The JPython installation includes several parts:
  • jpython : The equivalent of the Python program used throughout the book. jpythonc : Takes a JPython program and compiles it to Java class files. The resulting Java class files can be used as any Java class file can, for example as applets, as servlets, or as beans.

John C. Reilly/Criminal Interview by Paul Fischer in Los Angeles.
Posted 09.09.04 John C. Reilly is one of Hollywood’s most diverse actors. An Oscar nominee for Chicago, Reilly has often been cast as sympathetic characters, so audiences will see a new side to him, as he stars as a seasoned con man in Criminal, a remake of the Argentinean hit thriller Nine Queens. Though he’s still to be seen in The Aviator, Reilly refuses to talk about anything else but the film he’s promoting, as PAUL FISCHER discovered when he spoke to the actor in a Los Angeles hotel room. Are you a fan of con movies? Yeah, I am. I think it has to do with the fact that I love games. I love card games and I’ve always loved board games and stuff like that as a kid. I think it’s that part of your brain that’s engaged in con movies. It’s like this who’s outsmarting whom? But I think what sets this movie apart from other con movies is it gets this family dimension, this emotional thing that happens once I get mixed up with my sister. It takes it to another place that most con movies don’t go to.

Monday, June 27, 2005 - Web posted at 8:58:35 GMT Irish newspaper group eyes African tabloids Chief Operating Officer Gavin O'Reilly and South Africa chief Tony Howard said the country was Independent News's fastest-growing market thanks to a consumer spending boom and perky advertising revenues. Independent News is best known in Britain and Ireland for its loss-making daily The Independent, but it makes 13 per cent of its revenues in Africa's richest country, where it is the leading newspaper publisher, and operates in five other countries. Howard told Reuters the company expects to boost sales in South Africa by 16 per cent and notch up "pretty strong double-digit" growth in operating profit in 2005. "We are going after new readers. That is where much of the top line growth is going to come from" said Howard. "There is a strong possibility we will launch more African language titles and we want to expand our tabloid, Daily Voice." South African newspapers traditionally targeted the white minority, but 11 years after the end of apartheid publishers have started launching tabloids aimed at the huge black market, where improved literacy and higher living standards has created a new market of newspaper readers.

Cyberlaw Select Past Issue 26 August 19 August 12 August 5 August 07 May 2004 Economics 1994 Birthplace of trends BY MICHAEL COULSON It would be invidious to single out any one event as the story of the year, which is notable for the stirring and nurturing of some of the trends that will dominate the decade. For instance, one consequence of the inward-looking controls of the apartheid era, which prevented SA companies from investing abroad, was the spread of the mining houses' and other big corporates' tentacles into almost every sector of the local economy. That is ending in two ways: unbundling, which often comes to be linked with black economic empowerment, and forays offshore. These are all seen in 1994. Barlow Rand unbundles, Anglo American announces it is unbundling JCI (see 1996), Gencor merges with Billiton, and Sappi makes the biggest offshore investment to that date by an SA company, the US$1,6bn purchase of US paper maker SD Warren.

Presents O'Reilly is an ideological con man through quotes, interview excerpts and commentary.
http://www.billoreillyconman.com/
A Con Man? Bill O'Reilly hasn't, as far as I know, swindled money from anyone. So why do I say O'Reilly is a con man? O'Reilly is a con man of a different, more dangerous sort. He is an ideological con man. He's quite skilled at selling people a bill of political goods that sounds good to them, but is in reality quite pernicious, if not fatal, to their economic and perhaps even physical well-being. How O'Reilly Distracts People O'Reilly exhibits unsurpassed demagogic skill in riling up his audience over hot button cultural issues. If only the ACLU would stop trying to remove the phrase "under God" from the Pledge, if only the IRS would audit Jesse Jackson's tax return, if only students would stop shooting porn films on state college campuses, then things would be better. Huh? Would the resolution of such concerns truly improve the lives of any of the "folks" whom O'Reilly purports to represent? What O'Reilly Ignores If O'Reilly was really "looking out for you" ("you" being the average American) then O'Reilly would be addressing the issues that in a flesh-and-blood way affect their pocketbooks and their health, their very lives.

Update #3

The cable talk show host of The O'Reilly Factor spoke in his first book of having a "working class" background. Michael Kinsley of the on-line magazine Slate challenged him on this, and the anti-spinmeister went ballistic. Putting their obvious personal animosity aside, the entire brouhaha boils down to this: Kinsley doesn't challenge the facts O'Reilly presents about his upbringing, only the label he attaches to them. I would suggest that O'Reilly uses a definition of "working class" different than that of most people.
Definition of " Working Class "
"Working class" is formally defined as follows: The part of society consisting of those who work for wages, especially manual or industrial laborers. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition The class of people who work for wages usually at manual labor. Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary The class of people who are engaged in manual labor, or are dependent
