101. The Impact Of War On Child Health In The Countries Of The Former Yugoslavia
Report from a workshop examining children's health issues.
http://stills.nap.edu/readingroom/books/impactwar/executive.html
The Impact of War on Child Health in the Countries of the Former Yugoslavia
Executive Summary
The participants in the Workshop on the Impact of War on Child Health in the Countries of the Former Yugoslavia (the "Child Health Workshop") were doctors from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia, all of whom were knowledgeable about the situation of children in their own countries, and senior U.S. and European pediatricians drawn from academic and professional organizations. A common interest in the health and welfare of children provided the opportunity to put aside political differences in the interest of focusing on the state of child health and well-being in these countries that have experienced the political, economic, and social disruptions of war. The presentations and deliberations of the workshop participants provided insight into currently available information to assess the physical and mental health of the children in these countries. Workshop discussions identified gaps in knowledge that can be addressed by future studies and professional exchanges in the areas of epidemiology, primary care, trauma, acute and chronic illnesses, mental health, and child protection. The role of doctors as a conscience of the community deserves more consideration in times of stress and under difficult circumstances such as war. Pediatricians and children's doctors in particular have a professional obligation to act to protect children under such circumstances. Workshop discussions identified some key principles that can be used to guide professional practice in the protection of children. These principles include the need to keep children with their parents whenever possible, the need to protect children within their home communities whenever possible, and the importance of maintaining basic health, education, and social services for children under conditions of adversity.

107. 1998 Korcula Nationalism Conference
A conference which the issue of nationalism can be freely and openly discussed, as a part of the EUsponsored project Confidence Building in former yugoslavia Reconciliation through direct communication and interaction.
http://www.gla.ac.uk/Inter/SEERU/conference/
SOUTH EAST EUROPEAN RESEARCH UNIT [The Case of the Successor States of former Yugoslavia] Island of Korcula, Croatia 22-25 September 1998 KORCULA CONFERENCE PROGRAMME UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW STAFF NEWSLETTER (ISSUE 204) ARTICLE, P.10 (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). BACKGROUND As a part of the EU-sponsored project Confidence Building in former Yugoslavia: Reconciliation through direct communication and interaction , a forum is being initiated at which the issue of nationalism can be freely and openly discussed. The complex ingredients which purport to identify differences between the peoples, in terms of their national 'uniqueness' are amongst the most important aspects of the political and social dynamics within the successor states of former Yugoslavia. Examination of the complex relationships which form a raison d'etre and motivation for the processes of self-determination, coupled with major socio-political changes in recent years, presents cross-cultural challenges. AIM The acute problematics of the successor states of Yugoslavia in recent history have made it almost imperative that the first Korcula Summer School/Conference concentrates on national identity versus national enmity. The Conference proposes to examine closely the various strands which define that phenomenon which is understood in colloquial and academic parlance as 'nationalism', taking both a theoretical and empirical approach in addressing the issue.

Belgrade Follies Archival footage, dramatizations, and dark satire capture the dire end-of-century events in the former Yugoslavia BY CLEO CACOULIDIS Film after film bombards the eye with images of destruction: buildings split open, their wire and plaster entrails hanging precariously amid the rubble, burnt villages, graveyards, rivers of people fleeing, squalid refugee shelters. The accompanying stories are no less harrowing than the pictures they describe. Such is the stuff of the 11 Yugoslav documentaries shown at the 3rd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival: Images of the 21st Century in March 2001. The films, all produced within the last ten years by Radio B92, the independent media station in Serbia that was actively opposed to the regime of Slobodan Milosevic, explore the aftermath of the collapse of Yugoslavia in 1991. Tragically, three wars, the 1999 NATO bombing campaign, and the threat of another war in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have provided Yugoslav doc makers with more than enough raw material for their projects.

Macedonia, Former Yugoslav Republic of
History and Government
History: An ancient, strategically important and much-contested territory, the historical region known as Macedonia was variously controlled by the Greeks, Romans, Bulgarians, Byzantines, Serbs and Ottoman Turks, who conquered the area in 1371, and kept it until the beginning of the 20th century. Then, as Turkish power declined, Macedonia once again became a bone of contention between its various neighbours and their respective superpower allies. In 1893, the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation (IMRO) was founded to promote independence. In 1912/13, the Balkan Wars drove the Turks out of the area, and it was carved up between Serbia and Greece, with Bulgaria retaining only a small part. Vardar Macedonia became part of the new ‘Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes’ in 1918 (‘Yugoslavia’ from 1929). This caused much anti-Serbian resentment locally during the inter-war period, when the IMRO was also used as a terrorist organisation against Belgrade by Bulgaria, which again occupied the area under German direction during World War II. In 1945, the area became a constituent republic of the new communist Yugoslav federation, which the Serbs opposed. Thereafter a new ‘Macedonian’ nation was created, but this was never accepted as legitimate by any of the republic’s neighbours. In December 1990, following the collapse of communism in Yugoslavia (now Serbia and Montenegro), Macedonia held its first multi-party elections for the 120-seat national assembly, the

We do not produce wine, we squeeze grapes...for everything else we have to be thankful to God, Nature and our 150 years of expertise.
Our Company

Our winemasters can often be found walking the vineyards, working closely with the numerous winegrowers who supply NAVIP's grapes. Their proper selection is the first step in the creation of great wines that we are so proud of. The specially selected grapes arrive at the winery to be crushed, with the juice carefully handled as the fermentation process begins. What follows is the blending, the true test of the winemaster's art. Here, our expertise comes to the fore as we carefully blend the fermented wine to achieve the perfect, consistent balance.
