Custom made Holidays designed around your own choice of accommodation and country pursuits.
Ceiriog Country Holidays are set in the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, located just over the Welsh border, a valley which retains its own traditions, culture and lifestyle. Described as 'a piece of heaven thats fallen to earth' by Lloyd George, the area has remained relatively undiscovered - a secret hideaway - yet it is easily reached from the motorway network and A5, one of the main tourist routes into North Wales. Here is a valley just waiting to be explored with unrivalled countryside, excellent range of accommodation, great variety of pursuits and attractions, and a warm and friendly welcome.
The variety of scenery encountered along the eighteen mile length of the valley is amazing. Rising in the foothills of the Berwyn Mountains, the River Ceiriog wends its way through heath and moorland, wooded hills and rocky outcrops, lush pastures and gentle slopes, with brooks and streams adding to its flow. Situated on its banks as it journeys downstream are the picturesque villages and hamlets of Llanarmon, Tregeiriog, Pandy, Glyn Ceiriog, Dolywern, Pontfadog and finally Chirk. This is the gateway to the valley, where the river passes beneath Thomas Telford's impressive aqueduct (and viaduct alongside) before meeting the River Dee. Nearby, the imposing Marcher fortress of Chirk Castle overlooks the mouth of the valley and the ancient boundary of Offa's Dyke.

The Welsh Library On-line catalogue / OPC Since May 1985 acquisitions have been entered only in the on-line catalogue, and earlier records have been added to that catalogue as well, so that only if one fails to find what one wants in it need one refer to the closed card catalogue. The Welsh Library’s Card Catalogue is an alphabetically arranged author catalogue, with entries for joint-authors, editors, translators, subjects of biographies and critical works, and some subject headings. The catalogue is located in the Shankland Reading Room.
Authors’ names ... problems The card catalogue generally preferred assumed literary names, with cross-references from surnames with forenames, e.g. Ceiriog (rather than Hughes, John Ceiriog, 1832-1887, as he is entered in the on-line catalogue). The on-line catalogue, reflecting current practice in most libraries, tends to opt for the most commonly used combination of the author’s surname and forenames, unless the author has consistently published his or her work under an assumed literary name, as in the cases of Cynan (not Albert Evans Jones) and Islwyn (not William Thomas, 1832-1878). SOAP THAT GAVE IOAN BIG BREAK TO RECEIVE TOP TV HONOUR
The Welsh language TV soap that gave Hollywood heart-throb Ioan Gruffudd his first big break, Pobol y Cwm (People of the Valley), is to be awarded one of the top honours in British television.
The Royal Television Society will present the drama - one of the UK's longest-running TV soaps - with a 'Hall of Fame' award at a special gala evening in Cardiff on October 17 to celebrate the series' 30th birthday.
First broadcast on October 16, 1974, the popular drama, made by BBC Cymru Wales for S4C, saw Ioan Gruffudd play schoolboy Gareth Wyn during the 1980s in his first major professional role.
A number of special programmes broadcast in Welsh and English will be shown on S4C and BBC Cymru Wales during October 11-17 as part of the anniversary celebrations, including behind-the-scenes documentaries O Flaen dy Lygaid and On Show, a concert featuring cast members, past and present, and a special edition of Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol .
Set in the fictional Carmarthenshire village of Cwmderi, Pobol y Cwm has over the years featured some of the biggest names in Welsh film and theatre as well as providing a platform for new talent.
