Mab Richard a Phoebe Hughes, Pen y Bryn, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, oedd John Ceiriog Hughes. Ganwyd ef Medi 25ain, 1832. Aeth i'r ysgol yn Nant y Glog, ger y llan. Yn lle aros gartref ym Mhen y Bryn i amaethu ac i fugeila wedi gadael yr ysgol, trodd tua Chroesoswallt yn 1848, i swyddfa argraffydd. Oddiyno, yn 1849, aeth i Fanceinion; ac yno y bu nes y daeth ei enw yn adnabyddus trwy Gymru. Deffrowyd ei awen gan gapel, a chyfarfod llenyddol, a chwmni rhai, fel Idris Vychan, oedd yn rhoddi pris ar draddodiadau ac alawon Cymru. Yn 1865, daeth Ceiriog yn orsaf feistr i Lanidloes. Aeth oddiyno i Dowyn yn 1870, oddiyno i Drefeglwys yn 1871, ac oddiyno i Gaersws yn yr un flwyddyu. Yno y bu farw, Ebrill 23ain, 1887. Treuliodd ei febyd, felly, yn Nyffryn Ceiriog, rhan ganol ei oes ym Manceinion, a'r rhan olaf ym mlaen Dyffryn yr Hafren. Trwy'r blynyddoedd yr oedd tri pheth yn agos iawn at ei galon, - llenyddiaeth Cymru, yr Eisteddfod, ac addysg Cymru. Yr oedd yn hoff o Ddafydd ab Gwilym; yr oedd ganddo gariad greddfol at y naturiol a'r cain. Yr oedd ei fryd ar ddiwygio'r Eisteddfod, ac ar ei gwneyd yn allu cenhedlaethol. Hiraethai am ddadblygiad cyfundrefn addysg, ac ymfalchiai yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Cymru. Un o wir feibion ymynyddoedd oedd.

Fy hoff le yn Nyffryn Ceiriog yw fferm Dave Roberts. Mi fyddain mynd yno gyda fy ewythr Nigel i weld ei dractor ac i gynorthwy gyda'r silwair. Rwyn mynd bob dydd Sadwrn yn yr haf pan mae fy ewythr adre. Rwyn hoffi gwylio nhw yn taflu'r teiars i fewn i'r pwll ac yn torri'r silwair. Mae'r fferm yn fawr a llawer o sieds a rhai yn llawn tractorau. Rhan fwyaf o'r amser byddwch chi'n clywed tractorau yn y caeau melyn-gwyrdd. Weithau gallwch glywed y coed sisial yn y gwynt ac mae golygfa'r dyffryn yn brydferth.

49. Fund Raising
The two treks, which were led by Bryn Hughes, Ceiriog Holidays, raised over £200.“It was not an attempt to do a ‘hard sell’ on anyone” said Merle Hunt.
http://www.cvag.campaign.btinternet.co.uk/fund_raising.htm
Ceiriog Valley people have put their money where their hearts are. Almost £2,000 has been raised to run the ‘No turbines’ campaign, most of it in the form of donations by those who attended the two public meetings at the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall, Dolywern on June 26th and July 3rd.
The four main fundraising events we have staged have collectively raised £547.80 - an excellent effort which says much about public opinion against turbines in the Ceiriog Valley. Sincere thanks to all who either took part or contributed.
The fundraising is continuing, as we hope will your fantastic support.
The lucky winners of the water colour are Jack and Agnes Roberts! The draw for the water colour was taken in the Golden Pheasant following the Wrexham Council meeting on 9th September. Well done to Jack and Agnes - a well deserved reward for your support and commitment to the campaign. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets - raising the grand sum of £665 for campaign funds.
Win a water colour painting!
Tregeiriog professional artist Colin Radcliffe has painted a watercolour of a classic Ceiriog Valley view - featuring Pontfadog church and school. The picture, measuring 21" x 15" framed, is being raffled at £5 per strip of 5 tickets. It is a superb painting – so please, buy a strip if you can.

Chirk and The Ceiriog Valley
The Ceiriog Valley - A little bit of heaven on earth
Just a short distance from the town of Wrexham lies the outstandingly beautiful Ceiriog Valley, rich in Welsh cultural heritage and undiscovered landscapes. The exquisite unspoilt scenery of the Ceiriog Valley has inspired many great literary works by famous Welsh poets John Ceiriog Hughes (1832-1887), Huw Morus (1662-1709) and Rev. Robert Ellis (1812- 1875), and has come to be known as the ‘Valley of the Poets'. A journey through the peaceful Ceiriog Valley reveals exciting and vastly differing landscapes, from green pasture and woodland to rocky mountains, sweeping moors eventually reaching the highest waterfall in Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr, one of the 'Seven Wonders of Wales'. Not surprisingly, this outstanding countryside is a fantastic outdoor activity destination. The Valley's many excellent walks feature a vast selection of public footpaths for walkers of all levels, including the Offa's Dyke footpath. It's also a perfect pony trekking venue with bridleways stretching across the hills and commanding spectacular views of the Valley's natural beauty. The Ceiriog Valley offers many excellent outdoor pastimes. The rapid River Ceiriog is rich with fish and is the perfect fishing venue and some of the Valley's hotels have private fishing rights. There are some great biking routes, from cycle tracks along the river Ceiriog to demanding mountain biking in the Berwyn Mountains. The Chirk and Ceiriog Valley Partnership have produced a suite of literature to enable visitors to enjoy the area to its fullest. These include specialist print introducing the wealth of outdoor activities available.
