In the final act of business at its general synod in Atlanta, the UCC also demanded that Israel tear down the barrier it is erecting on the West Bank to separate the Israeli population from Palestinians. A day earlier, delegates to the synod voted to endorse equal marriage rights for same-sex couples, becoming the first mainline Protestant denomination to take that step. The UCC has about 1.3 million members in 6,000 congregations, each of which is independent and not bound by the denomination's decisions.

Extractions: Located in downtown Ann Arbor, Bethlehem United Church of Christ has been actively serving Christ, our local community, and the world for over 170 years. With an active membership of just over 1000, we have extensive programs in Christian Education, Music, Fellowship and Community Outreach. We hold two services each Sunday morning. Our 8:30 service is held in the chapel and our 10:00 service is in our sanctuary. Music is large part of Gomer's life, and we have a wonderful Children's Choir and great Adult Choir, and a brand new Handbell Choir. Gomer's Welsh heritage is one of its unique features. It keeps in touch with its roots through its Welsh celebrations of the Gymanfa Ganu and St. David's Day.
