In the years 1614 to 1616 three novels appeared about a Rosicrucian order, and it was thought that Pastor Andreae had written these to mock the Freemasons. Interested circles maintained that it was a matter of a secret cult. Suddenly everywhere there appeared Rosicrucian Lodges which formerly had not existed at all. This continued through the seventeenth century and in the eighteenth century experienced a tremendous impetus. Some time ago it began again as a third Rosicrucian epoch. Let us look at this new epoch. It is a mixture of occultism, magic and Christianity. The occult teaching consists of the following: that Jesus Christ did live and die but that His words and His life are not so important, but rather an occult working which goes out from his spiritual essence. Thus all his words are interpreted in an occult sense. For instance, the blood of Christ, according to Rosicrucian interpretation, is a secret life force which flows through the world and helps men to improve their own blood composition. They say that the red blood cells are better than the white ones and are more easily dominated by the spirit-soul of men; while the white blood cells have their own nucleus and are self-willed. So one needs the right vegetarian nourishment, and a person's blood must be improved in order that the whole person may be improved; for the whole teaching strives toward an improvement of individuals. For each person is a part of Goda part-soul of the entire cosmos. In each person this spirit-soul comes to expression and develops toward ever higher levels. However, this development should not be confused with Darwin's thinking about evolution. This development is a matter of spiritual essence. Its aim is the evolutional progress of the soul-spirit of each person so as to become an increasingly better person.

Rosicrucian history states that Sir Francis Bacon was actually the author of the Fama Fraternitatis and other works that brought about the revival of the Order in Germany.

Traditionally, Rosicrucianism traces its roots to the mystery schools of Ancient Egypt, and it is certainly true that many lines of thought which are now considered to be characteristically Rosicrucian do appear in Egyptian sources. However, the first references in print to the Rosy Cross under that name appeared in Germany in the 16th Century, when three seminal works were published: the Fama Fraternitatis, the Confessio Fraternitatis and the Chymische Hochzeit, or Alchemical Wedding. English translations of all these works can be found here. The traditional symbol of the Rosy Cross, a red rose at the centre of a golden cross, clearly has Christian connotations; but mystical aspects derived from many diverse faiths, including the Jewish tradition of Kabbalah, are evident in many Rosicrucian writings. From early times the Rosicrucians stressed that they were not to be thought of as different from any of their countrymen (each was exhorted to "dress after the manner of the country in which you dwell"), even though they might be in possession of knowledge that was not available to everyone. For this reason, Rosicrucians through the ages have been disinclined to sound their trumpet from the rooftops and, in consequence, they would appear to have gained an undeserved reputation for secrecy.

The Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne was said to have founded a Rosicrucian lodge at Toulouse in the 9th century AD, and in 898 AD a second lodge was founded. Around 1000 AD a group of heretical Catholic monks established the first Rosicrucian college which flourished until the 16th century. It has also been claimed that the Brotherhood of the Rose Cross was founded by Templars after their order was disbanded by Pope Clement. Historical story: The Fama Fraternitatis appeared in 1614 (written in 1610), describing the foundation and purpose of the Society (Brotherhood) of the Rose Cross. This related that a Father CRC, born in 1378, a German, poor but from a rich and noble family, made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. He remained at Damascus through ill-health, and studied there. He later traveled to Damcar, where he was trained by the Arabs, and translated the book "M" into the Latin tongue. He then traveled to Fez, and after two years to Spain, where meeting with ridicule, he returned to Germany. After five years he called three of his brethren to him, bound them by an oath, and then founded the "Fraternity of the Rose Cross". They later initiated another four members, and decided to spread the word to other countries. Their by-laws were that they should heal the sick without charge; wear the clothes of the country they visited; every year upon a certain date should meet, or be represented, in the "House of the Holy Spirit"; each should search for a worthy replacement for when he dies; that the letters R.C. would be their mark; that the Order would remain secret for 100 years. It was later also decided that burial places would be kept a secret.
