The only source of religious authority is Scripture. The two sacraments are Baptism and Holy Eucharist (Communion). The other so-called sacraments are worthy but not Scripturally justified. No sacrament is efficacious without understanding and faith.

THE EPISCOPAL SUCCESSION OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND The documents given here are an attempt to chart the course of the Episcopal succession as it has been preserved in the Church of England. The 'successio sedis' or succession of Bishops in their dioceses has of course been published many times and is a matter of general knowledge (it is published, for example, in most editions of Crockford's Clerical Directory); this study however gives the 'successio manuum' or succession of consecrators, which I believe has nowhere before been set out in this form. The unbroken list of definite and historically verifiable consecrations begins in the ninth century. Before that date it is rare to find any record of a bishop's consecrator - contemporary documents, where they exist, may record only the bare fact that the consecration has taken place. This does not of course mean that there was no consecrator. Episcopal consecrations being major public events it is unthinkable that the rite could have ever been performed except by someone universally known to be competent to do so, that is, by a lawfully and validly ordained bishop; and, notwithstanding the occasional bishop who was elected but never consecrated, it is equally unthinkable that anyone could have embarked upon the actual exercise of episcopal orders without being known to have received them.

Meanwhile, the latest decision of the Anglican Church of England – the Communion’s mother church – has reached what may be the nadir of self-contradiction. The senior bishops of the Church of England, led by Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, have said that clergy can “marry” their boyfriends – and of course, the female clergy, can “marry” their girlfriends – if they promise to refrain from sexual activities with their “spouse.” In a decision that may go down in history as being the first to render Monty Python parodies redundant, Rowan Williams, offered this compromise as a solution to the problem created by a British law that recognizes same-sex unions for purposes of tax and inheritance benefits. The decision is part of the Anglican bishops’ draft Pastoral Statement on Civil Partnerships. The bishops also agreed to change ecclesiastical law to enable gay partners to occupy vicarages for up to two months after the death of their clergy ‘partners.’
