Extractions: The classic migraine is a severe headache, which in some instances may be accompanied by nausea. Ocular migraines are visual disturbances in which visual images look gray or have a wavy appearance. They almost always occur in only one eye. Other common symptoms are loss of vision, particularly in one eye, and increased sensitivity to bright lights. The visual distortion, when it occurs, normally starts in central vision and then moves off to one side. The ocular migraine can occur either in conjunction with the common migraine or without the corresponding headache. Generally, when it accompanies the common migraine, the visual disturbances happen before the onset of headache symptoms. In younger people with common migraine, it is typical for the ocular migraines to also occur. As people age, it becomes more common to experience ocular migraines without headache symptoms. In general there is no serious complications caused by ocular migraine. Treatment, in most instances, is not necessary unless the ocular migraine is linked to the common migraine.
Extractions: What are eye migraines? They're commonly called eye migraines , but they're actually a group of different types of migraine, including ocular migraines (or occular), ophthalmic migraines , a type of silent or acephalgic migraine , and even ophthalmoplegic migraines . Confused? Don't worry, you'll see it all clearly in a moment (oops, sorry!)... First, you need to remember that pain is only one possible symptom of migraine see the article on symptoms ). Other symptoms include nausea, congestion, and visual symptoms. Silent migraine or acephalgic migraine is migraine without the headache. Eye migraines silent migraine: If this is you, you may be getting strange visual disturbances , usually lasting less than an hour, but no headache. You likely have a type of migraine, which needs to be treated in basically the same way as any other type of migraine. However, you do need to make sure you see a good doctor so that she can rule out other problems that can do permanent damage. Eye migraines Occular migraines: Ocular or retinal migraines are quite rare. You get partial (retinal) or complete (ocular) blindness, usually in just one eye. This disturbance lasts less than an hour. Sometimes it comes with a headache, sometimes it doesn't. The headache (often a dull ache behind the affected eye) usually happens afterwards, but can happen before or even during (our bodies are so unpredictable!). This type of migraine varies with which artery is being hit.

For this I have take Voltaren and Plaquenil daily for the past 2 years. I visit an eye specialist yearly for vision checks which my rheumatologist recommended as being necessary because I take Plaquenil. About 6 months ago I experienced 'shimmering, moving images around the perimeter of my field of vision. This lasted about 5 to 10 minutes and did not recur until about a month ago, and now it seems to happen every couple of days. I am unable to focus properly on anything while it is happening. There does not seem to be a pattern for when it occurs - I could be reading, watching TV, cooking. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

I don't know of any studies that have been done to show the difference between contacts vs. eyeglasses. It depends alot on the refractive error you have. One thing that has been proven is that the myopic process is slowed down some with the wearing of the rigid contact lens. Also with the wearing of contact lenses, you have better vision in that the contact lays on the cornea and you do not have to adapt to the curvature that you have to adapt to in wearing eyeglass. His three wall pieces, part of his 'FIELD' series [702, 802, 1802], are oil on linen on convex square panels. These paintings pulse with color: countless marks and dabs crowd panels in a dizzying, repetitive pattern. In one, cobalt dominates; crimson, navy and melon marks recede, until the viewer moves closer. A student of Eastern philosophy, Michael seeks to elicit meditation in this series. Yet in a supplemental notebook, Michael reveals 'FIELD' was partly inspired by the visual effects of a migraine. Looking too long at these panels may trigger one of your own."

So here we turn to migraine variants Abdominal migraines, which are sometimes diagnosed in children, are unusual because they cause pain in the stomach and lead to nausea and vomiting (sometimes without a headache). A child who complains of recurrent pain in his stomach may be experiencing abdominal migraines. Children who suffer from abdominal migraines are likely to have migraine headaches in adulthood. Abdominal migraines are usually treated with anticonvulsant drugs. The basilar migraine was once known as the basilar artery migraine, or BAM. It was considered a problem that was found primarily in young women and adolescent girls, but it occurs in both sexes and all ages. Basilar migraines are extremely rare, but they have the potential to be a serious health hazard in that they can lead to a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke. Symptoms to watch for are double vision, partial vision loss, terrible vomiting, dizziness, loss of balance, slurred speech, lack of coordination, numbness (on one or both sides of the body), weakness, and confusion. These symptoms typically go away at the onset of the actual headache, although they may last for days after the pain disappears.
