Extractions: Het Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster syndroom is een aangeboren aandoening bij vrouwen. Door deze aandoening zijn de vagina en de baarmoeder niet gevormd. Ook zijn er soms afwijkingen aan de nieren, het skelet, de benen of het gehoor. De aanleg van de baarmoeder en de vagina vindt plaats van de zesde tot de achtste week in de zwangerschap. Ze worden gevormd uit de zogenaamde buizen van Müller. Deze twee buizen versmelten met elkaar. Maar bij het Mayer- Rokitansky- Küster-syndroom heeft de versmelting niet plaatsgevonden. De eileiders ontwikkelen zich wel en de eisprong vindt iedere maand plaats. Maar de menstruatie blijft uit. MRK vrouwen ontwikkelen zich uitwendig als elke andere vrouw. De uitwendige geslachtsdelen zijn wel aanwezig en in de puberteit vindt borstontwikkeling plaats. Diagnose Het Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster syndroom wordt vermoed als in de puberteit de menstruatie niet op gang komt. De diagnose kan worden bevestigd door een gynaecoloog. Met behulp van röntgenonderzoek kan de afwezigheid van baarmoeder en vagina worden bevestigd. Bij een kijkoperatie kunnen de organen in de buik bekeken worden. Soms wordt ook een bloedonderzoek gedaan en een nierfoto gemaakt. Behandeling
