Extractions: It seems that the condition may stem from impaired ability to make certain digestive enzymes normally secreted by the pancreas. Apparently over time, this leads to other consequences including mitochondrial mutations, and many other serious health concerns. The co-existing conditions vary from patient to patient. Writings indicate she was mummified but the location of her remains is not known Want notice of site updates? Email me with questions or comments. Thanks! Many official North American references on Madelung's suggest this condition is not serious. This is because standard diagnostic tests tend to reveal no indication of any known disease process. The truth is that untreated Madelungs kills. Patients who know or suspect they have Madelung's should not remain in the care of a provider who dismisses their condition as harmless. Delaying

Ask the Experts about Lipodystrophy and Wasting Sep 26, 2003 I would like to encourage people who might be considering liposuction to make sure they haven't acquired something similar to(if not the same as) Madelungs disease before risking liposuction. I am among the Madelungs patients who have had liposuction only to have it spread the disease rapidly through my body and make me worse than I was before the liposuction. I'm not saying don't have Crix belly fat removed its definitely bad from a health standpoint to let it remain but just choose a method other than liposuction. I know that there are some people who do okay with liposuction. You can perhaps minimize your risks from it by having testing to make sure you haven't begun to have mitochondria mutation before having liposuction. Response from Dr. Moyle

I have had 3 surgeries on my left wrist and recently had surgery on my right . Daily tasks have been a struggle since I am right handed. I would really like to get in contact with some of the wonderful people that have written to you. Pls feel free to give out my address. Thanks again for your great site, I have already found great information on it and look forward to further information. I'm sending this quick note to you to maybe help other people in Canada with this Deformity incase they inquire. Well.....with the help of the Surgeon, I submitted to our Government a form that allows me to make an extra $70000.00 a year tax free. You can only qualify for this tax break if you cannot feed or dress yourself. Now that the Surgeon filled out that form, my next step is to see if the Canadian Government will help me get retrained so that I may return to the workforce

In the long bones, streaky linear depositions of cartilage within the metaphysis may also occur. The disease often dominantly affects one side of the body. On other occasions it may affect the hands or feet, or be generalized. It is not an inherited disease. Clinically, there are bony swellings, limb shortening and mechanical difficulties, associated with joint disruption and short stature, which may be asymmetrical. The condition usually presents between 2 and 10 years of age. There may be focal restriction of growth at the site of a lesion which may result in limb shortening, Madelung's deformity or kyphosis. The characteristic radiological appearances are columnar radiolucencies extending from the metaphyses into the shafts of tubular bones; there may be associated stippled calcification ( Fig.1
