Extractions: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a disease in which cancer cells are found in the lymph system. The lymph system is made up of thin tubes that branch, like blood vessels, into all parts of the body. Lymph vessels carry lymph, a colorless, watery fluid that contains white blood cells called lymphocytes. Along the network of vessels are groups of small, bean-shaped organs called lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are found in the underarm, pelvis, neck and abdomen. The Because you have lymph tissue in many parts of your body, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma can start in almost any part of your body. the cancer can spread to almost any organ or tissue in your body, including your liver, bone marrow (tissue found inside the large bones that make blood cells), spleen and nose. Lymphomas are divided into two general types: Hodgkin's disease and Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. The cancer cells in Non-Hodgkin's disease look different than Hodgkin's. Hodgkin's disease is discussed in our Hodgkin's disease transcript. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma can also occur in children and is treated differently than for adults.

Tests indicate that I am now clear of the disease and in May I'll finish treatment. Of course, being a writer, my first impulse is always, write it down. So I was driving along in my Subaru Outback and the check engine light came on and I know what to do if the little oil lamp light comes onâpull over immediately or the engine will explode or somethingâand what to do if the little electrical thingy light comes onâdrive straight to Goodyear without turning off the car because if you do it will be dead as a post and Iâd have to call Triple A where if I get it to Goodyear I can just call Bobâbut I didnât know what to do if the check engine light came on. So I looked at my odometer and it said 63333 which seemed fairly significant, I mean, maybe itâs like the call maintenance light on a copy machine but I was thinking I had gotten my 60,000 mile check or maybe that was Bobâs car but later on I found out it was my car so it wasnât the 60,000 mile thingy.

Extractions: (This is the story of Clondike, a Great Pyrenees bitch who was diagnosed with canine lymphoma in May of 1998 at the age of 10 1/2. Employing a complementary approach including chemotherapy, improved nutrition and various immune enhancing therapies, she has managed to attain three remissions, the third lasting 16 months (and counting). While there have been some bumps along the road, on September 28, 2000 she was 28 months from diagnosis and approaching her 13th birthday. This article is an updated version of one written for the Great Pyrenees Club of America's Bulletin where it appeared in the July/August 1999 edition under the title "Another Year with Clondike.") The Diagnosis. It began one evening in May, 1998 with what was supposed to be a routine appointment to allow our regular vet to re-check Clondike's anal sacs. Before the visit was over, the vet was in tearsnever a good sign! I almost didn't mention the "funny" soft lump I had felt in the folds of Clondike's neck while brushing her that week. I expected to be told that it was some normal structure that I had never noticed before, like the time I rushed Clondike in to have a lump on her stomach checked, only to discover that she has a completely normal belly button! The vet felt Clondike's neck and became really serious. She said anytime a dog has swollen lymph nodes you have to consider cancer as one possibility, and that she usually puts dogs on antibiotics for two weeks to see if the nodes go down before doing a biopsy. When I reminded her that Clondike was just completing a three-week course of antibiotics for the anal sac infection, she felt some more and said that, while the nodes didn't feel exactly like lymphoma patients she had diagnosed in the past, it was something we definitely needed to consider.

Epidemiology and Pathology Gastric lymphoma is an uncommon malignancy, accounting for less than 2% of primary gastric cancers. [1] However, the gastrointestinal tract is the most commonly involved site of extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, with the stomach most frequently involved. [2] In one series, almost 75% of primary gastrointestinal lymphomas were of gastric origin. [3] Gastric lymphomas are more prevalent in patients over the age of 50, and men are affected two to three times more frequently than women. [4],[5]
