Injecting the toxin into the salivary glands reduced drooling, a common problem with the neurological disorder. Doctors have already used botox to help control problems with muscle tension which often occur with cerebral palsy. The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children team presented their findings at a medical meeting in New Orleans, US. Extractions: Drooling is the unintentional loss of saliva from the mouth. It is caused by a lack of coordination of the muscles of the mouth, face and neck. Drooling is an extremely common problem for younger children with Cerebral Palsy but it usually improves as the child grows. It is estimated that of all individuals with CP, 35% or more drool significantly. In Cerebral Palsy there are a number of conditions that can contribute to drooling. They are: deficiencies in swallowing (rather than to absence of swallowing); difficulty moving saliva to the back of the throat; poor mouth closure, sometimes due to incorrect positioning of the teeth; jaw instability and tongue thrusting. While drooling can lead to the child being socially ostracized, there are also health and hygiene implications for people who drool. The skin around the mouth, chin and neck can become red and sore; dehydration may happen because of fluid loss; there may be problems with eating; infections may be more easily transmitted; and aspiration of the saliva is more likely, and can lead to infection and/or pneumonia.

Drooling can happen because of excess saliva and lack of muscle control. A new study compares two treatments for this problem and finds they are both effective. Researchers in the Netherlands conducted the study comparing a botox injection to the use of the drug scopolamine, also known as Transderm-Scop, to reduce drooling. The study included 45 children with cerebral palsy who had severe drooling. The children received either the injection or the drug and were followed for two years. Study authors say both treatments appear to help reduce the drooling in the children. The most significant decrease was seen two to eight weeks after the botox injection. However, no significant difference was seen for the next two years between the injection and the drug. Researchers say 53 percent of the patients on scopolamine and 49 percent of the patients who got the botox injection responded to the treatment. However, the scopolamine did have more severe side effects than the injection.

I have never been completely sure that disease is the right term to describe alcoholism, but I am sure that the only people who control alcoholism are those who treat it like a disease. Alcoholism is addictive behavior, and believe me, I know about addictive behavior. The important thing I have learned on this subject over the last year is that you can hate the addiction and still love the addict. Another thing I know is that all addicts deny that they have a problem. Lindsay, you have a problem. The only way you are going to address the problem is for you to first admit that the drooling beast is in the room. You are a very smart man. It usually takes very smart men a little longer to know they have a problem, but once they know it, they can quickly see how to fix it. There are people who drink too much occasionally and can fix that problem by adjusting their behavior. They are not alcoholics. Alcoholics deny they have a problem and put blame on external situations, which are not the problem at all. In your case, you blame your passion, your moral indignation at the atrocities of the left, and most recently and most unattractively, Barbara Branden. Barbara is the messenger. The message she brings concerns self-destructive behavior. In your case, I am now giving that self-destructive behavior its true name: alcoholism.
