Related Collections Treatment of Pain With Gabapentin in a Neonate Gabapentin (GBP) is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analog approved for the treatment of partial seizures with and without generalization in patients 12 years of age and older. The precise mechanism of action for GBP in the central nervous system is not known. Although it was originally designed to mimic the effects of GABA, it has been found to be inactive at GABA binding sites. Recently, GBP has been shown to be effective in the treatment of neuropathic pain in adults and children.

Pediatrics, Apr 1956, 532-540, Vol 17, No. 4 A Kanof, SM Aronson and BW Volk 80 Linden Boulevard, Brooklyn 26, New York. The term arthrogryposis multiplex congenita is used to describe a syndrome of congenital malformations, the chief of which is flexion deformity of the joints. This name, and multiple congenital articular rigidities, used in the first description of this entity by Rocher did not seem appropriate to Sheldon because they seemed to indicate primary involvement of the joints. He was impressed by the clinical and histologic changes in the muscles about the affected joints, and coined the name amyoplasia congenita.
