Program
Minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies
Program Scope
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender studies intends to delineate and analyze meanings that have been associated with homosexuality in various artistic, biological, cultural, educational, ethical, historical, and literary contexts; and examine the related issues of mixed-gender and cross-gender roles and practices. The minor is broadly interdisciplinary. It draws courses from anthropology, biology, cinema, counseling, English, history, human sexuality studies, psychology, NEXA, social sciences, speech and communication studies, and women studies.
MINOR IN LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER STUDIES
The minor consists of a minimum of 24 units of undergraduate study. It is possible to use these courses to meet requirements in some undergraduate majors, in other minors, and various clusters in the General Education program. Specifically, several courses meet the requirements of the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer cluster in Segment III of the General Education program.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Program at UCLA is an interdisciplinary program that supports teaching and research on the historical and contemporary experience of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered people. It provides an academic home for those who wish to study the intellectual and cultural traditions that have shaped our current understanding of sexuality and gender, as well as for those who wish to challenge such traditions and generate new theoretical paradigms. The program sponsors courses, offers an undergraduate minor, organizes lecture series, facilitates the study of minority sexualities and genders in the broadest interdisciplinary context, and tries to bring together interested students, faculty, and members of the larger Los Angeles community.

LGBT Studies investigates the historical and contemporary experiences of people traditionally neglected in scholarship and courses. It explores questions about sexuality as well as identity, community, representation, diversity, assimilation, and discrimination that are both academically and socially significant. Work in this innovative field includes material and methods from many disciplines: English and foreign languages, Allied Health Professions, Anthropology, Art History, Biology, Communications, Economics, Fine Arts, History, Music, Nursing, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Social Welfare. The LGBT Studies Certificate Program provides a curricular structure for undergraduates interested in the interdisciplinary study of same-sex relations, and human sexuality more generally, in past and present cultures. Program requirements Students must complete at least 18 credits in courses from the LGBT Studies list with a minimum GPA of 2.5. 1. GayLesb 200 (Introduction to LGBT Studies), 3 credits

Duke University INTRODUCTION Gay/lesbian/bisexual studies is an emerging, rapidly-growing field of scholarship. The sources listed below offer an entry into this area of inquiry. The list is selective rather than comprehensive, and it covers those sources that focus primarily or even exclusively on various aspects of gay/lesbian/bisexual studies. However, because gay/lesbian/bisexual studies is an interdisciplinary area of research, material relevant to it can be found in a wide range of reference sources which do not have a gay/lesbian/bisexual studies focus. Note that many of the sources referred to herein use the term homosexual interchangeably with gay , which usually refers to men, and lesbian , which usually refers to women.
