History
In the region that is now Iraq, the Yazidi have been oppressed and considered devil worshippers for centuries. During the regime of Saddam Hussein , however, they were considered to be Arabs and maneuvered to oppose the Kurds, in order to tilt the ethnic balance in northern Iraq. Since the 2003 occupation of Iraq , the Kurds want the Yazidi to be recognized as ethnic Kurds. Historically, the Yazidis are a religious minority of the Kurds. Purportedly, they have existed since

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/4052/yezidi.htm
I mentioned the "yezuddi" a couple of posts ago sorry, fingers were typing too fast for my brain, that should have been "yezidi."  The religion is "yezidism," and some basic info can be found at http://www.yezidi.org Yezidism seems like a form of Zoroastrianism, modified by later Xian and Moslem thought, tho' it may greatly predate Zoroaster.  It's a dualistic, monotheistic religion, still practiced, primarily by a minority of Kurds (about 800,000).  Historically, they've frequently been persecuted as "devil-worshippers" by Xian and Moslems.  As far as I can tell, their primary deity, Ta'usi-Melek, is cognate with Lucifer.  They've got some really interesting mythology... `Io,
Caledhaearn Here's a brief excerpt from a paper which clearly suffers much from translation: The Yezidis before Sheihk-Adi
A scientific religious research
by Dr. Pir Mamou Othman The Yezidi-religion is one the oldest controversial religions of the world. The fact, that Sheik-Adi Ibin Mustafa (ca. 1162 after Christ) introduced a radical change in the Yezidi-religion hang like a dark curtain in front of the Yezidi past. It is unanimously held, that this religion existed before Sheik-Adi, but under other names as well as definitely with other Customs and Traditions. An article "a focus on the Philosophy of the Yezidi-religion" presents the philosophical disputes in the Yezidi-religion, viz. Ta'usi-Melek as God's representative on the earth and not as the Evil One", as other religions state, Ta'usi as the aesthetic Phenomenon, interpreted as such and firmly held only by the Yezidis.

30. Yezidi
have the chance of researching an ancient religion, yezidism(Êzîdîtî). yezidism is an original religion which has its own philosophy and faith system.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/2153/yezidi.html
Yezidi religion and society Yezidis are a small group. They mainly live in North Iraq. Some of them live in Turkey, Armenia, Yemen and Iran. About thirty thousand of them imigrated to Germany, because of bad conditions in Turkey. Despite all troubles they have encountered in their past, they have succeeded to survive. Their survival both in terms of religion and society among mountains has the basic struggle for peace and humanity. The Middle East region has had many religions and sects. One of them is Yezidism and it has many different as well as common aspects with the others, Islam, Christianity etc. Their survival for centuries and their interesting religion have attracted many Westerners’ attention. The most stressed idea in these Westerners’ writings and recent researches on them is that Yezidis are a religious Kurdish group, which has survived for thousand years in the nature and has an original religion that has many aspects emerging from the natural sources. Before focusing on the survival of Yezidis and the aspects of Yezidi Religion and Philosophy, some general characters which are essential to determine in the beginning of such study should be introduced. First of all, Yezidis belong to Kurdish race and regarded as Kurds who keep their original and ancient religion. They speak northern dialect of Kurdish (Kurmanji). Except some Arabic poems, their all oral prayers, hymns(qewl), sacred songs and whatever they recite in their special days are in Kurmanji. All Scriptures and texts that they have are also in Kurdish.

Their Peacock Angel is Lucifer.
There's a direct prohibition against saying "Satan," the rationale being that it's the name of their god.
One of their two holy books is the Book of Revelation. (same as the Christian one? Can't tell!)
Much like modern evangelicals, they have two holy days: Wednesday and Saturday. Link Leave a comment Comments: From: tleilaxu Date: January 17th, 2005 - 01:35 pm Link so wednesday actually is a holy day for evangelicals? why is that, do you know? it is the most common midweek church nite, but i assumed it was for bisecting the week. Reply to this Thread From: kesil Date: January 17th, 2005 - 01:38 pm Link Yeah, your take is more strictly correct...mine was tongue-in-cheek. There's nothing exceptionally holy about Wednesday, and I imagine they did pick it because it was midweek. At least at the church I used to go to, it was a "worship service" with more emphasis on music than instruction; I think this is a pretty common setup. It's also a sort of junior varsity for associate pastors...most medium-size churches need a couple pastors, but the senior one gets the sunday services, so the associate pastor gets his licks in on Wednesday night. 550 videos of Bible mostly in Kirmanji Kurdish (the Kurdish language of Diyarbakir) are available free. 500 of these videos are in NTSC (the US video system) and about 50 in PAL (the European/Asian system). About 20 videos may also be available in Sorani/S. Kurdi, Armenian Kurdish, and Behdini/Bandinani as well. The majority are the Dayirbakir dialect in the North American video system. The video is a translatation from the Biblical Book of Luke which was filmed in 1979 and dubbed by speakers from Dayirbakir. If you think it would prove to be of cultural benefit to any members of your Kurdish network, I would be willing to mail the videos out free to those of your members that would like them. It would only cost me $1.13 each within the USA, only a little more to Europe (as I'll mail those from Canada), and the exercise would help alleviate my friends warehousing problem at least. No cost at all to your network or the video recipients. All I'd need would be addresses, languages, and numbers (if for some reason more than one video should go to a single address) - I don't really even need any names I suppose. So, let me know if my offer is of any use to you. Feel free to spread it around, keeping in mind there are about 500 in NTSC and perhaps 50? in PAL available.

    http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/40articles/yezidism.htm
    Return to the Article Archives
    Part One
(#) Parentheses indicate footnote number IN 1888 THE 16-YEAR-OLD GURDJIEFF WITNESSED a strange incident: he saw a little boy, weeping and making strange movements, struggling with all his might to break out of a circle drawn around him by other boys. Gurdjieff released the boy by erasing part of the circle and the child ran from his tormentors. The boy, Gurdjieff learned, was a Yezidi. He had heard only that Yezidis were "a sect living in Transcaucasia, mainly in the regions near Mount Ararat. They are sometimes called devil-worshippers." Astonished by the incident, Gurdjieff made a point of telling us that he felt compelled to think seriously about the Yezidis.( ) Inquiring of the adults he knew, he received contradictory opinions representative of the usual, prejudiced view of the Yezidis. But Gurdjieff remained unsatisfied. This story is embedded in the narrative of Meetings with Remarkable Men, like one of the monuments in Turkestan which Gurdjieff said helps people find their way through regions in which there are no roads or footpaths. In chapter five Gurdjieff placed another such marker, an echo of the earlier story. There, he and Pogossian set off to find the Sarmoung Brotherhood, even if they must travel, as Gurdjieff says, "on the devil’s back." Enroute, far from any city, Pogossian throws a stone at one barking dog in a pack, and he and Gurdjieff are immediately surrounded by fifteen Kurdish sheepdogs. Like Yezidis, the two men cannot leave the circle of dogs until they are released by the shepherds who own the dogs.
