What is Wicca? Wicca is a nature-based religion. It stresses living in harmony with all creatures and the earth. It honors a Goddess and God that is contained in all nature and in ourselves. The Goddess and God are an aid for Wiccans to focus inner power and the power that is found in all of nature. Wicca is practiced in a group (coven or grove) or solitary. It is based on pre-Christian European folklore and mythology. Wicca is the alternative name for modern Witchcraft. It is related to the ancient Mother Goddesses (Mother Earth, Mother Nature) in her aspects of Maiden, Mother and Crone. It dates from the paleolithic age when a god of hunting and a goddess of fertility were worshiped. The power of nature inspired the belief in higher powers that controlled rain, wind, thunder, fire etc.Women made life, and that was magickal. The word wicca is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "wise". Also used is the feminine

The Sabbats of wicca. Because witches honor nature, they have eight festivals,or Sabbats, that mark the year as it turns through its seasons.

Holidays Introduction espite competition from twentieth century "life in the fast lane", the awesome spectacle repeated in the pattern of the changing seasons still touches our lives. In the ages when people worked more closely with nature just to survive, the numinous power of this pattern had supreme recognition. Rituals and festivals evolved to channel these transformations for the good of the community toward a good sowing and harvest and bountiful herds and hunting. One result of this process is our image of the "Wheel of the Year" with its eight spokes the four major agricultural and pastoral festivals and the four minor solar festivals of the solstices and equinoxes. In common with many ancient people, many Witches consider the day as beginning at sundown and ending at sundown the following day. So, for example, Samhain starts at dusk on the 31st, ending the evening of the 1st. October 31 November Eve Samhain The night lengthens and we work with the positive aspects of darkness in the increasing star- and moonlight. Many Craft traditions, following the ancient Celts, consider this the eve of the New Year (as day begins with sundown, so the year begins with the first day of Winter). It is one night when the barriers between the worlds of life and death are uncertain, allowing the ancestors to walk among the living, welcomed and feasted by their kin, bestowing the Otherworld's blessings. We may focus within ourselves to look "through the glass darkly", developing our divination and psychic skills. Click

Back to Home Page or Contents Page or Goddess and Witchcraft or Index Wicca W icca is a religion of Nature, which venerates Nature by worshiping both the feminine as masculine aspects of Divinity. Its spiritual roots go back to pre-Christian belief and practices in Europe. Wicca first attained public attention through the efforts of Gerald B.Gardner in the 1950s, as it was portrayed as the remnant of an ancient European fertility cult. Those practicing Wicca refer to it as the Old Religion, or the Craft of the Wise. Outwardly modern Wicca appears to be a system of folklore and folk magic, but its composition consists of pre-Christian European Mystery Teachings. The main philosophical teachings of Wicca teach that the Divinity is composed of both masculine and feminine principles, which most Traditions personify as a Goddess and a God. (see The Horned God ) Other Traditions teach that the supreme Deity is the Goddess who possesses within Herself the polarities of masculine and feminine energy. Such Wiccan theology dates back to Neolithic, if not Paleolithic, times. Many debate whether modern Wicca is the survival of the Old Religion or a new religion, but it contains remnants of Old Religion theology. Others vigorously argue that nothing resembling modern Wicca ever previously existed. The truth may remain uncertain, but one certainty is that Wicca has been influenced by Masonic, Hermetic (see

This site is best viewed at 800X600 resolution and with fonts set at "Times new Roman" on medium setting.
This website was created for anyone interested in magic and/or paganism. Most of the information here is a reflection of my personal, spiritual journey and my magical practise. You will notice that I've created much of my beliefs and practises on my own- some might say my path is "eclectic," though I don't prefer that term. I've studied many traditions, such as Druidry, Wicca, traditional witchcraft, Enochian magic, Egyptian magic, Chaos magic....and I've drawn ideas from here and there. My studies of science have also influenced me....some believe scientific knowledge hinders one's beliefs and practise of magic. However, my belief is that scientific knowledge enhances a magical practise..
If you take just one concept with you when you leave my site, I hope it is this your spirituality and magical practise can be molded into what you desire- completely personalized by you

128. Wicca And Asatru
An article by Devyn Gillette and Lewis Stead about the differences between wiccaand asatru.
http://www.webcom.com/~lstead/wicatru.html
The Pentagram and the Hammer
Devyn Gillette and Lewis Stead The following article is based on the workshop "Wicca and Ásatrú", which was presented by the writers during the 1994 FreeSpirit Festival. Devyn Gillette is a English Traditional Wiccan, and former host of the Pagan radio show "Between the Worlds." Lewis Stead is an Asatruar who edits Asatru Today. Many Wiccans, particularly eclectics, indulge in Germanic practices without reason to suspect (or without concern) that a cadre of Germanic purists are shouting at them from over the heaths. In between these two distinct camps lie those who remain carefree of the matter, and who disregard anyone who would comment on what "is working for them." the general whole They are both Pagan earth religions. They both apply magic in their practices. They both feature an element of reification (i.e., basis on a romanticized notion of the past). While there may exist groups that individually feature more similarities, as far as the entirety of each faith is concerned, there are no other similarities. Pagan Earth Religion Mountain Thunder Curiously, some have questioned whether this is really true for Ásatrú. Some highly eco-aware Wiccans, for example, may balk that Norse Pagans, being generally more conservative (more on this later), might be prone to support legislation that is anti-environmental, or that the Ásatrú ritual of "land taking" (i.e., ownership) defies most understandings of land stewardship. To "own" the land, such a person would argue, is inherently "un-Pagan." For their own sake, many Ásatrú reject the label of "earth religion" and while environmentalism is important, veneration of the Earth Goddess is not a dominant feature of Ásatrú; Nerthus being merely another deity among many.

Is it of Halloween and Witches on broomsticks flying in the night sky looking for someone to place a curse on? Or is it of an old ugly hag with warts on her nose stirring a cauldron? The picture at the left shows that a witch is not old and ugly. In fact, many of these so-called witches are very beautiful and some are as young as 10 years old, or so they have told me. I have had mail from young ladies who say they have been practicing "the craft", since the age of 10. What happened to Barbie dolls and playing house? To those of us who know about it, it is no laughing matter. Investigators say the more then half of the world's population believes that witches are real and can influence the lives of others with spells and curses. Witchcraft has donned a new mask of respect in many places. Books, Movies and Television have played a tremendous role in the acceptance and the reduction of fear. Hollywood is making the witches more appealing to a very large and easily influenced audience. Witchcraft is one of the fastest growing spiritual movements in the country. Many are the young girls and teens described above. It is inspired by the feminist movement, which is part of the

131. Paganism, Wicca, Polytheism, Nature Worship Religions Challenged
Paganism, wicca, Polytheism, Nature Worship religions challenged.
http://www.christian-faith.com/religion/pagans.html
A Challenge to Pagans I understand that paganism is a growing religious force in the world today. Also, there are quite a number of forms of paganism - Druidism, Wicca, Witchcraft just to name a few. Perhaps you feel that your rituals and other spiritual activities will help to save the Earth from self-destruction. You may distrust Christianity for quite a few reasons. You can't stand the doctrine of eternal punishment, and you probably feel that most Monotheistic religions, especially Christianity, are a hindrance to spiritual development. Most pagans are polytheists (they acknowledge and worship more than one god or goddess). You probably believe that these divine powers are within you and you need to get into harmony with them. You may be a Nature-Worshipper of some form. Some Preliminaries 1. Points we may have in common. a. We believe in the reality of a spiritual world that exists now in parallel with the physical universe. Many churches are spiritually dead - emphasizing "club rules" and not a personal encounter with the divine. But more and more churches are coming alive and are learning what it means to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has greater power than all the rest of the angels and demons combined. b. We believe that it is good for us to care for our environment. As a Christian, I believe that God gave us this world to look after and enjoy, but not to abuse. So I would sympathise with attempts to limit ecological destruction and the spread of pollution. In my view it is sinful to ruin the environment for personal or corporate profit. The Bible talks of God "destroying those who destroy the earth" (Rev. 11:18).

Inledning

There are tons of resources available these days for beginner Wiccans, Witches, and Pagans; some good and some that should be avoided at all costs. While this is great news for beginners, more experienced Pagans often have difficulty wading through all the “101” books on the shelves. Where do you turn when you’re ready to move beyond the introductory material? Where are all the “Wicca 202” books? The problem is in Wicca’s structure, or lack of structure, depending on how you want to look at it. Once you get past the basic information there’s so many topics you could study that it would be difficult to get them packed into one book.
