The Sabbats of Wicca
Because witches honor nature, they have eight festivals, or Sabbats, that mark the year as it turns through its seasons. The following is basic information about these Sabbats, and includes both standard Wiccan information as well as my personal Sabbat lore and experiences, in other words, what I perceive the Sabbats to be. Samhain happens near Halloween and is when the Wiccan year begins. My altar cloth is black, because we are in the time of year that is dark. On my altar is the harvest, our "dead Lord" whose life is in the crops and "sacrificed" when the crops are killed to become our food. This is the time of death, of honoring and communing with spirits that have passed to the other side. Now the veil between the worlds is thin. It is a good time to invite our beloved dead to visit with us. This is not a gruesome exchange, but reverent, earthy, natural, further it is joyous and festive. Victor Anderson says "If a ghost of a loved one shows up, ask him to join the party." Yule or winter solstice happens near December 21, which is the longest darkest night of the year. The dark of Winter is safe like my bedcovers at night. Dark whispers of a Mother's love caress me. In the darkness of the Mother's womb, the void I am safe, sustained, at peace. and can move inward, into my own dark self, looking, learning, purifying. I can cleanse myself of all that blocks me from being born new with the rising new solstice sun when the sun king is born, with promises for the Spring ahead.

Merry Meet!
Blessed be

87. WICCA
Uppsats av Karl Norrbom.
http://www.utb.falun.se/hbo/projekt/religion/religion/WICCA.HTM
Luft- i väster ligger visdomen, Jord- i norr ligger tystnaden, Eld- i söder ligger hoppet, Vatten- i öster ligger visionerna.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers , having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables . 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Wicca is the name, and witchcraft is the gameand the Devil is laughing his head off. It's time to examine some more paganistic mumbo-jumbo gumbo. Into darkness we go to discover the evil force that mascarades behind the name Wicca... Wicca witchcraft calls itself "white witchcraft". This supposedly denotes that Wiccans only do "good" witchcraft. As I see it,
  • the witches in Wicca have been watching too much Bewitched
  • the witches in Wicca have been watching too much I Dream of Jeannie
  • the witches in Wicca having been watching too much Sabrina the Good (or Teen) Witch , and
  • the witches in Wicca having been watching too much Casper the Friendly Ghost
According to the Bible, there is no such thing as a good witch.

http://spazioinwind.libero.it/karen/Wicca.htm

By Rick Branch Founder: While Gerald B. Gardner is generally credited with the modern revival of Wicca, he was neither the first to practice nor the founder of Witchcraft. Founding Date: In 1949 Gardner published his first book, which was later followed by several other works. Official Publication: Because of the varied nature of Wicca, there is no single official publication. However, Llewellyn's New Worlds of Mind and Spirit and Llewellyn New Times (Llewellyn Publishing) are two of the key periodicals. Organization Structure: Each individual coven is autonomous and therefore will have their own organizational structure. Generally the high priestess is considered the leader of the Coven. Unique Terms: Witch refers to both male and female members.

http://www.crystalinks.com/wicca.html
Wicca is a Neopagan religion that can be found in many English-speaking countries. Originally founded by the British civil servant Gerald Gardner, probably in the 1940s, although it was first openly revealed in 1954. Since its founding, various related Wiccan traditions have evolved, the original being Gardnerian Wicca, which is the name of the tradition that follows the specific beliefs and practices established by Gerald Gardner. repeatedly in his published work of 1954. The spelling "Wicca" is now used almost exclusively, (Seax-Wica being the only major use of the four-letter spelling). In Old English, wicca meant necromancer or male witch. Some contend that the term wicca is related to Old English witan, meaning wise man or counselor, but this is widely rejected by language scholars as false etymology. Nonetheless, Wicca is often called the "Craft of the wise" as a result of this misconception. It appears that the word may be untraceable beyond the Old English period. Derivation from the Indo-European roots 'wic' or 'weik' is seemingly incorrect by phonological understanding.Though sometimes used interchangeably, "Wicca" and "Witchcraft" are not the same thing. The confusion comes, understandably, because both practitioners of Wicca and practitioners of witchcraft are often called witches. In addition, not all practitioners of Wicca are witches, and not all witches are practitioners of Wicca. Wicca refers to the religion. This can be a reference to both the initiatory tradition, where initiates are assigned a degree and generally work in covens, and to Solitary Wicca, where practitioners self-dedicate themselves to the tradition and generally practice on their own. Both Initiates and Solitary Wiccans worship the Goddess, with most also choosing to worship the God, and both celebrate the Sabbats and Esbats.

The USA Constitution recognizes that right: it is the citizen's duty (and obligation) to defend it. Today in the United States Wiccans are submitted to an astonishing amount of abuse by people who object to their choice of worship (see "A Fundamentalist Christians Speaks Against Wiccans" for one person's "justification" for that abuse).
