Pete teaches a class
As part of my last semester at Northeastern I've decided to teach a class on Unix Security Technologies. The primary aim of this class is to introduce people to classic software vulns and to expose them to alot of security software. Another unstated goal is to improve the effectiveness of Crew's CTF The current problem with CTF is that it's an opportunity for people to try things in a risk free environment, but the participants don't know what is out there to try. A port of Packit-1.0 to windows
Status: Beta Requires: Libnet 1.1.2.1, Winpcap-3.0 or higher Description: Taken from http://www.packetfactory.net/projects/packit Packit (Packet toolkit) is a network auditing tool. Its value is derived from its ability to customize, inject, monitor, and manipulate IP traffic. By allowing you to define (spoof) nearly all TCP, UDP, ICMP, IP, ARP, RARP, and Ethernet header options, Packit can be useful in testing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, port scanning, simulating network traffic, and general TCP/IP auditing. Packit is also an excellent tool for learning TCP/IP. A while ago I found myself using a windows box and couldn't find any packit injection tools that I liked. So I took my favorite packet injection tool from unix and ported it to windows. Send feedback to to peterm@ccs.neu.edu Build Instructions Make sure you have the following: libnet 1.1.2.1: Winpcap 3.01 Developers pack If you're using Visual C++ 6.0 you'll need the following Microsoft Platform SDK You need this so you'll have the iphlpapi.h header

http://www.africanvodun.com/pages/essence.html
  • Historically vilified and misunderstood, Vodun is a religion practiced by a small group of Fon, Mina, and Ewe peoples of coastal West Africa. African Vodun is the root of all Vodun, including Haitian and New Orleans practices. Vodun is only one of the African traditional religions that accompanied Africa's enslaved throughout the Diaspora where numerous sects of Vodun continue to thrive. Similar to other religions, Vodun functions to help people endure the trials and tribulations of daily life like starvation, disease, and death, and to celebrate life. The religion provides teachings and practices* about morality and spirituality to assist its devotees in evolving their consciousness.
  • Like most religions, Vodun provides the structure for beginning transformation. Vodun adepts are renown for their energy mastery and their expertise with spirits, plants and minerals.
  • Vodun teaches its devotees about the spiritual components of activities of daily life like sex as facilitators in our transformational journey. Sexual energy is powerful and its mastery helped our Vodun ancestors to survive and then to thrive.
  • Endowed with the power of their gods, and the wisdom of their ancestors, Vodun practitioners embark on an eternal journey to master the Earth and its elements, the divine, and most decidedly themselves. The ritual conquering of death in initiation is the seed of empowerment meticulously planted in the sacred terrain of Vodun. Bondage in its multiple and varied forms like abuse and addictions are challenged and maneuvers strategized.

Related pages: Santeria Spell Books Vodou: Visions And Voices Of Haiti By Phyllis Galembo Priestesses, zombies, snakes, and swamps ...voodoo, or vodou, is the dramatically symbolic spiritual tradition of many Afro-Caribbean people. It has beguiled and terrified outsiders for centuries, and its rich practices have often been campishly exoticized as the stuff of B movies. In VODOU, photographer Phyllis Galembo shows us the human and divine faces and voices of real Haitian vodou as it is practiced today. Re-released with a striking new cover to coincide with Galembo's photographic exhibition at New York's Albany Institute of History and Art, VODOU is based on Galembo's research and interviews with scores of practitioners and adherents, as well as participation in and witness of numerous vodou rituals. The companion piece to her national gallery tour, this is a beautiful, personal, and intimate document of a fascinating and deeply misunderstood religion. MORE... USA

The evil eye or sticking needles in dolls, those are among the images that we Westerners commonly associate with Vodun, or Voodoo, as it is sometimes known, a longtime subject of low-grade horror films and campfire tales. I'm Jim Metzner, and this is the Pulse of the Planet, presented by the American Museum of Natural History. We're listening to the drums and singing of a West African Vodun ceremony. "Vodun is probably one of the most poorly understood religions anywhere." Suzanne Preston Blier is a Professor of Fine Arts and Afro-American Studies at Harvard University and a consultant for a new exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, "The Sacred Arts of Haitian Voodoo." "In the early Haitian revolution against the slave owners there was a sense of the power that Vodun had provided to overcome these very powerful individuals. There was also a long-standing tradition in America of making illegal the practice of African ceremonies because they were viewed as somewhat analogous, let's say, to sorcery: a type of religion which only had a negative part. Vodun at its base is as much a philosophy as a religion which is grounded on this idea of good acts, of respect, of calmness in the face of danger. It has as part of its religion as well, the use of materials, of objects for protection. But it's that part of the religion which is also seen in the West to be somehow very malevolent."

We're listening to music from the west African country of Benin, where members of the Vodun faith take part in a ritual in honor of the Earth. I'm Jim Metzner, and this is the Pulse of the Planet, presented by the American Museum of Natural History. Suzanne Preston Blier is a Professor of Fine Arts and Afro-American Studies at Harvard University. She tells us that an important part of Vodun worship is the creation of the altar, a collection of objects which derives power from the close relationships in Vodun between the gods, the Earth and the materials of everyday life. Vodun , or more correctly Voodoo is a religion practiced significantly in the West Indies and some in South America and Africa. edit

    Beliefs
Voodoo's central theme is the belief that injury, pain, or even death can be inflicted upon a person by using the likeness of them usually put on a figure (Voodoo Doll). It also can involve frenzy dancing and such things as hallucinations induced by using herbal drugs, similar to drugs like LSD and Ecstacy. edit
    Practices
Followers of Voodooism are sometimes ridiculed for their radical beliefs that involve demons and things of that nature. Followers of Voodooism are usually associated with Cannibalism. edit
    Controversy
Voodooism's followers rarely claim that they are Zombies; that is claimed to be risen from the dead, but cases do take;l'k kl' K,l place. This is brought much controversy to followers of Voodooism. Evidence of Resurrection of the Dead can be found in the Holy Bible of the Christian religion, more specifically Lazarus, who was resurrected by Jesus Christ. It also can be found in the Bible of the Resurrection of the dead during the Last Days; see the Book of Revelation for reference. Despite evidence from the Holy Bible many dismiss the claims of Zombies highly unlikely and the claims as fictional.

An Ancestral Religion Resurrected in America
Interview with African-American Voodoo and Mami Wata Priestess:
Mamaissii “Zogbé” Vivian Hunter-Hindrew, Hounon Amengansie Publishers Note: This interview was originally published May 2001, on About.com by Nigerian (About.com) African Cultures host, Dr. Austin Ogunsuyi. Due to the sudden closure of the African Cultures segment featured on About.com, this interview has been reprinted here in its entirety.
Dr. Austin Ogunsuyi: 1. What do you regard as the unique structure of the Vodun?
Mamaissii “Zogbé” Vivian: Unlike the strict parameters that are drawn in Western religions between the secular and non-secular world, Vodoun is a tradition that is all encompassing in all aspects of ones life. From the temporal to the spectacular. From pe-birth to the afterlife, the Vodoun is intrinsic in all aspects of ones existence.
Dr. Austin Ogunsuyi: 2. What is the relationship between "Vodun" and "Voodoo." Are they one and the same thing?
Mamaissii “Zogbé” Vivian: The relationship is largely one of regional, linguistic, cultural, ethnic and even political variations in both its spelling and meaning. In the Fon language, the word "Vodou" simply means "Spirit." Th word "Spirit," simply is a term used to describe the specialized Nature divinities served in the Vodoun tradition. This is the term and meaning that the majority in the West are familiar with.

African "vodun" should not be confused with its hybridized cousin in Haiti and the US, "voodou," although the New World version did originate in West Africa, and faithful practitioners of the original religion still can be found. "Vodun" is a uniquely African path: to peace with the unknown, with nature, and with other people. In its complex and often shocking way, it is the equal to all other faiths.

Vodun is commonly called voodoo, a term that carries derogatory and inaccurate associations, according to many scholars today. Vodun combines elements of Roman Catholicism and tribal religions of western Africa, particularly Benin. Vodun cults worship a high god, Bon Dieu; ancestors or, more generally, the dead; twins; and spirits called loa . The loa, which may vary from cult to cult, are African tribal gods that are usually identified with Roman Catholic saints. The snake god, for example, is identified with St. Patrick. Other elements of Roman Catholicism in Vodun include the use of candles, bells, crosses, and prayers and the practices of baptism and making the sign of the cross. Among the African elements are dancing, drumming, and the worship of ancestors and twins. The rituals of Vodun are often led by a priest, called a
