States according to the Bible people will once again be vegetarian in the millennialreign of Christ on the earth.
http://www.bible.com/answers/avegetar.html
Home The Bible Bible Answers Bible Partners ... Youth What Does the Bible say about Vegetarianism? The Bible says that in the earliest days of creation, all of God's creation (even animals) were vegetarian. When God blessed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, He said to them: "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be food for you. And to the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the groundeverything that has the breath of life in itI give every green plant for food. And it was so" (Genesis 1:29-30). It appears that all creation was vegetarian until after the waters of the Great Flood receded and Noah and his family were left to replenish the earth. Genesis 9:1-3 says: "Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all of the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, now I give you everything." It is interesting to note that because they didn't eat meat, it could have been one of the reasons that Noah was able to so easily gather all the animals into the arkand explains why the animals did not devour each other while they were in it.

Back PETS AND VEGETARIANISM
First broadcast on www.provet.co.uk This information is provided by Provet for educational purposes only. You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet. Vegetarianism is gaining popularity in human society and vegetarian pet owners often wish to feed their pets an exclusively vegetarian diet - but is it safe ? From a nutritional point of view our pets can be classified into one of these groups
  • Carnivores - eat food material derived from other animals Herbivores - eat food material derived from plants, ie they are vegetarians Omnivores - eat food material derived from either other animals or from plants. Some omnivores can obtain all their nutritional requirements from a vegetarian ration. Grain or seed eaters (birds - hardbilled)) Insectivore - eat insects (birds - softbilled) Fish / plankton eaters (waterbirds)
Unfortunately this definition is confusing because the scientific definition of a "carnivore" is based upon anatomical characteristics and evolutionary evidence and it sometimes does not agree with the actual feeding capabilities of the species concerned.

(This article was written in January 1998) "Spiritual progress does demand at some stage that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures for the satisfaction of our bodily wants." Mahatma Gandhi This month marks the 50th anniversary of the violent death of the apostle of nonviolence: on January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in India. Many throughout the world admire Gandhi and want to work for peace. Few of these admirers, however, have really understand Gandhi's own words about what peace requires: a commitment to nonviolence which includes both animals and humans. Gandhi's vegetarianism is usually ignored. The motion picture epic "Gandhi" (which appeared in the early 1980's) popularized the life and ideas of the Mahatma, yet during the length of this otherwise excellent motion picture there was never a single reference to Gandhi's vegetarianism. Part of the reason for the "invisibility" of Gandhi's vegetarianism is that so many in India are vegetarian anyway. However, Gandhi was vegetarian as part of a conscious ethical choice, not just adherence to Indian culture, as he makes clear in his Autobiography . Gandhi actually experimented with meat-eating in his youth, then gave up meat consumption just to please his mother. Later, in England as a young student, he read a pamphlet by Henry Salt entitled "A Plea for Vegetarianism" which completely convinced him. "From that day forward," Gandhi says in his

Last Post: Vegetarian Recipes Welcome to the Recipes section of Ralpharama.
The first vegetarian meal I ever cooked was perhaps ten years ago, and whilst my house mates were all out, I thought I'd surprise them with a curry.
I looked through the kitchen and found a cookbook that had a 'vegetable curry' in it. Perfect, I thought. We had most of the ingredients and I only had to buy a couple of things at the local corner shop to make up the rest.
I followed the instructions dutifully and it didn't look or smell bad when it was all in the pot cooking.
However, upon taste I discovered that it, well, didn't have any. It just tasted like water, and what's worse was that the potatoes weren't cooked. They were, in fact, raw.
At this moment, everyone came home and said things like, 'Oooh a curry, great! I love curry!'
I admitted there were problems and the girls stood in the kitchen and examined my pot.
'You didn't cook the potatoes before putting them in?' They asked, as if I was the most stupid person on the planet for not knowing that I should do this.
'The recipe didn't say I should.' I defended myself.

http://academic-editor.com/vegetarianism.html
Now Available! Vegetarianism: Movement or Moment? by Donna Maurer, Ph.D. Vegetarianism seems to be increasing in popularity and acceptance in the U.S. and Canada, yet, quite surprisingly, the percentage of the population practicing vegetarian diets has not changed dramatically over the past 30 years. Vegetarianism: Movement or Moment? is the first book to consider this movement on a broad scale from a social science perspective. While this book takes into account the unique history of American vegetarianism and the various reasons why people adopt vegetarian diets, it focuses on how movement leaders' beliefs regarding the dynamics of social change contribute to the selection of particular strategies for attracting people to vegetarianism. In the context of this focus, Vegetarianism: Movement or Moment? highlights several controversies that have emerged in nutrition and the popular media over the past 30 years. Read more reviews! Why be vegetarian?
Improving Personal Health
It's no secret that compared to average meat-eaters, vegetarians generally live longer, are less likely to be overweight, suffer far fewer incidences of cancer and heart disease, and have more energy. These facts have been consistently borne out by decades of scientific research. The largest epidemiological study ever conducted (the China-Oxford-Cornell study) concluded that those eating the amount of animal foods in a typical American diet have seventeen times the death rate from heart disease, and, for women, five times the rate of breast cancer, than those who get 5% or less of their protein from animal foods. (See the references at the end of this article.) Saving the Earth All food animals consume several times more grain than they produce as meat. So several times as much land is needed to grow grain to feed animals, several times as much energy is used to harvest the grain and transport it, several times as much water is necessary, several times as much pesticides, etc. Worldwide petroleum reserves would be exhausted in 11 years if the rest of the world ate like the U.S. The least energy-efficient plant food is 10 times as efficient as the most efficient meat food. A nationwide switch to a pure vegetarian diet would allow us to cut our oil imports by 60%.

A History of Vegetarianism
with an emphasis on the U.S. from 1970+
by Michael Bluejay, 1998
Prior to Industrial Revolution
Little meat consumption, nearly anywhere (compared to today's standards). Meat consumption rises dramatically in Western cultures as transportation and refrigeration becomes easier Publication of Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lappe launches vegetarian movement in U.S., but unfortunately introduces myth that vegetarians must "combine" their proteins to get a "complete" protein. Publication of Animal Liberation by Australian ethics professor Peter Singer provides the spark for the birth of the U.S. animal rights movement and the founding of the group PETA, a strong proponent of vegetarian eating. Late 1970's Vegetarian Times magazine begins publication The first book promoting veganism by a credentialed Western medical authority is published, Dr. John McDougall's The McDougall Plan.

Good News for All Creation carries explosive insights, yet relates them in measured, compassionate tones.
