He left it at the doorstep of the royal hall and went inside. Sita saw the bow, ran to it and began playing with it as if it was a play-horse. Only those with great physical strength and daring could lift and handle the 'Vaishnava' bow. When Parashurama came out, the bow was missing I Ordinary persons could not lift it with ease and he, curiously looking around, spotted Sita playing with it as if it was a play-horse I The sage and the king were astonished. Sage Parashurama blessed Sita and said to king Janaka: "Dear king, only a great, strong person can wed this girl of such capacity. Arrange a 'Swayamvara' (where the brides choose their spouses) for her and let the most suitable person marry her." In course of time, Sita and Urmila attained maturity. This is a site created by the Grihastha Vision Team The GVT is a grass roots volunteer group of Krishna devotees who are mental health or educational professionals. We hope to remain non-political, and independent in our thinking. We are not an official ISKCON group, though we are working with it. Our intention is to provide resources to support married couples and prospective couples primarily in North American ISKCON communities. However, the broader community of Vaishnavas, and anyone who is interested in spiritual married life are welcome to take advantage of the knowledge that is shared here. We want to help spiritualize your married life so that it will be an asset for your Krishna (God) consciousness. A glossary is provided for those of you not familiar with Sanskrit terms. We welcome your suggestions to make this site relevant and useful.

Vaishnava Perspectives Tamal Krishna Goswami NB. The footnotes for this article are linked to a separate footnote page. The Vaishnava understanding of the soul's destiny may be conveyed by focusing the discussion on three topics: consciousness, salvation and the kingdom of God, of which salvation is perhaps the more inclusive term. To locate and frame this discussion in categories appropriate to Gaudiya Vaishnavism, we may label these three topics with the Sanskritic terms sambandha, abhidheya , and prayojana Sambandha refers to the conditioned soul's relationship with God. (Here, our analysis of consciousness post-mortem is meant to identify the soul as the one who survives death); abhidheya refers to the regulated activities of the conditioned soul for reviving its relationship with God; and

Project: Medieval Vaishnava Saints The Do sau bavana vaishnavana ki varta
Print View Titel Middeleeuwse Vaishnava heiligen. Do sau bavana vaishnavana ki varta Abstract Medieval Northern India saw a tremendous flow of fervent devotion to personal deities, highest amongst whom were Rama and Krishna. In the course of time, an extensive body of literature was produced by both theologians and mystics of this new Vaishnava faith. Whereas most theologians wrote their treatises in Sanskrit, many of the mystics opted for the vernacular languages of Northern India. In this project a collection of hagiologies, the Do sau bavana vaishnavana ki varta, will be translated from the original Brajbhasa, a form of medieval Hindi, into English. This text contains the life histories of 252 devotees of the medieval Vaishnava guru Vitthalnath (1516-1576). Furthermore, a thematical study will be carried out regarding the function of the Vaishnava saints as examples for the devotees, the relation between the life history of the saints and their works, and the function of the saint as an eyewitness of Krishna's games.
