NLMCC Welcome Services Christian Education ... The Epistle
Our ministry places an emphasis on the Gospel of Christ and God's love for all persons, for this is a God who cares, accepts and who first loved us. God loves us regardless of who or what we are.
We take seriously the commission of Jesus Christ who said "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Creator, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit". (Matthew 28:19) Who We Are (Galatians 3:28) New Life MCC of Hampton Roads serves to bring all people to God through Christ. To this end we arrange for regular services of worship, prayer, interpretation of the Scriptures, and edification through the teaching and preaching of the Word. New Life MCC of Hampton Roads is a Christian Church and a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. If you are lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgendered, you may wonder how one can be all of this and Christian. At MCC, we share a basic Christian principle that God's love is all encompassing, includes all people, and is absolutely unconditional. God came to us in human form as Jesus Christ so that we might learn and share that love. We share in God's love and we have been created as wondrous, beautiful and unique individuals by a loving God. Scripture affirms that "For God so loved the world that God gave the one and only Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Christ shall not perish but have eternal life".

Most Lesbian and Gay religious organizations in North America are believed to be affiliated with the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches , (UFMCC) the world's largest gay and lesbian spirituality organization. More than 20 UFMCC churches have been bombed, or set on fire by arsonists. This is an unusually high number for a denomination of 300 churches. US President Bill Clinton announced the conference in 1977 June during an address to the nation. He called for all Americans to "use the full talents of all of our people, regardless of race or religious faith, national origin or sexual orientation, gender or disability." He has organized a White House Conference on Hate Crimes for 1997-NOV-10. The conference will explore both federal and community-based remedies for addressing hate crimes. The Rev. Troy D. Perry, founder of the UFMCC, will participate in the conference. In a letter to President Clinton, Perry noted that: "UFMCC members and congregations have suffered a two-fold victimization by hate crimes:

WESTERN HISTORICAL MANUSCRIPT COLLECTION
UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
The Metropolitan Community Church first donated copies of the monthly newsletter, The New Light, in the mid-eighties (see collection 334). In the Summer of 1992, the pastor of MCC, Brad Wishon, met with a representative of WHMC and decided to donate the materials which constitute the following collection. MCC-St. Louis was founded October 28, 1972 with a primary mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the gay and lesbian community of St. Louis. The St. Louis Chapter of MCC is a member of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches founded by the Reverend Troy Perry. MCC-St. Louis moved to its present location, 1120 Dolman in October of 1984. Since that time, the MCC Pillars Club was founded to maintain and hopefully restore many aspects of the building. The Pillars have succeeded in some respects, but other projects are still in the works. SCOPE AND CONTENT
This collection contains much information concerning the Gay and Lesbian community in St. Louis. It also provides a wealth of information on the MCC and the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC). The materials reflect many of the activities of the church and some of its members since its founding. The collection also contains publications, both general and referring to religious organizations, which represents an even smaller group of the gay and lesbian community. This collection is valuable for the insights it provides, but should be used with other gay and lesbian collections in order to provide a more complete perspective of this diverse group of individuals. Please note this collection is restricted! Permission from the pastor must be obtained before a user may be granted access to the materials.

What is MCC, anyway?
MCC is not a gay church. It is a Christian church which does not discriminate against gays, lesbians, or other sexual minorities.
Where did it come from?
In 1968 a young minister named Troy Perry was removed from his pulpit and excommunicated from his church when he was found to be gay. He felt this was unfair, that all people who consider themselves Christians should have the opportunity to worship God. He later founded the Metropolitan Community Church in Los Angeles. As others heard of this church, they thought it was a very good idea. Soon other Metropolitan Community Churchess were organized in many other cities, including Salt Lake City (Jan 7, 1972), Ogden Logan and Boise . These local churches are now members of The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches ( UFMCC

http://www.mccfredericksburg.org/mcc2/aboutus.htm
About Us In 2003, MCC Richmond began working in partnership with UFMCC's Region 3, to plant a new Metropolitan Community Church in Fredericksburg, VA. Today, that vision has become a reality. Currently, MCC Fredericksburg worships at 6 p.m. @ the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg (UUFF) located at 1115 Caroline Street, Downtown Fredericksburg. Please check the Home Page and Events Page for current dates and times. When you join us for worship, if you have a previous church background, you will surely find some things familiar and some things that are new and different. MCC was built on an ecumenical Christian foundation, meaning that various Judeo-Christian traditions are incorporated into how we celebrate and honor our God. We honor a language of inclusivity, meaning that we strive for language that does not limit or serve as a barrier to one’s ability to find access to the Holy. To this end – we strive to avoid gender specific language in terms of God during worship to allow for the most accessibility for the most people. We invite all people to seek out how to best relate to their Creator God – and also invite people to continually strive to expand their understanding and experience with the divine. We hope that this has given you some helpful information about how we worship and what we believe – if you have any questions – please feel free to ask!

The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC) founded by Rev Troy D. Perry in 1968, plays a vital role in addressing the spiritual needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community around the world. For those of us who were raised in a religious atmosphere, homosexuality was usually associated with shame and guilt. As a result, many of us were cut off from the spiritual dimension of our lives. Metropolitan Community Churches provide an opportunity to explore a spiritual experience that affirms who we are.
