Designation Authority: The Town of Carman
Present Owner: Carman Methodist Church, United Church of Canada Pioneering Methodists in the Carman area were served by Reverend James Harrison (who arrived here in 1875) with services conducted in a small log church at Pomeroy. Within five years, the area was thriving, and in Carman it was possible to build a church. That first modest structure was succeeded by another, and finally with the present church. Built in 1906-07, it was designed by William Fingland of Winnipeg, and was constructed by George Elliott. The stained glass in the windows was created by Luxfer Prism of Toronto. The church is a fascinating interpretation of the Gothic Revival style, with its brick buttresses, pointed windows and especially its heavily ornamented tower. Like other Methodist churches across Canada, Wesley voted to join the United Church of Canada in 1925 and has served as Carman United Church since then. United Church of Canada Petitions MPs in Support of Same-Sex Marriage Says scripture "can be altered or re-interpreted based on changes in society" TORONTO, January 24, 2005 ( – The United Church of Canada officially endorsed same-sex “marriage” Friday, in a letter encouraging lawmakers to vote in favour of extending marriage privileges to homosexuals.
“The United Church of Canada requests the Government of Canada to recognize same-sex civil marriages in federal marriage legislation,” Moderator Right Rev. Dr. Peter Short said in a letter to MPs.
Dr. Short explained in his letter how the United Church, in 1988, welcomed all persons “who profess faith in Jesus Christ, regardless of their sexual orientation,” to become active as ordained ministers within the church.

Church Alive is a theological association and spiritual fellowship of United Church of Canada people and friends from several denominations. The name "Church Alive" is very much a prayer that the Church may be fully alive in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father. The purpose of Church Alive is to make a clear, Biblical witness to Jesus Christ crucified, risen and exalted; to encourage rigorous theological enquiry and discussion; to challenge doctrinal inadequacies; to encourage spiritual growth through prayer, Bible learning, sacramental worship and other means of grace; and to encourage a truly prophetic approach to the culture and society in which we live. United Church of Canada to Endorse Same Sex "Marriage" at Supreme Court May 4, 2004, ( - Canada's largest non-Catholic Christian denomination is arguing in favour of homosexual "marriage". The United Church of Canada has issued a media release which says, "Christian morality and religious principles require that same-sex couples have access to the same marriage rights as opposite-sex couples." Couching the argument in terms of "rights" creates common cause with homosexual activists who assert that there is no fundamental difference between homosexual partnerships and normal marriage.
The United Church is seeking intervenor status with the Supreme Court in the upcoming hearing on same sex "marriage" that is scheduled for October. The issue has become a thorny one for Christian groups since the passage of Bill C-250 that may make speaking out against the homosexual political agenda a criminal act. However, the United Church of Canada claims that the support of homosexual "marriage" is one that is compatible with Christian morality. Their press release says, "…in a debate that is too often characterized as pitting people of faith against each other or secular equality values, the Supreme Court needed to hear the perspective of a mainline Christian church that sees same-sex and opposite-sex couples as being equal in the eyes of God."
