Our Unitarian Universalist Faith: Frequently Asked Questions
by Alice Blair Wesley At a Unitarian Universalist worship service or meeting, you are likely to find members whose positions on faith may be derived from a variety of religious beliefs: Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, naturist, atheist, or agnostic. Members might tell you that they are religious humanists, liberal Christians, or world religionists. All these people, and others who label their beliefs still differently, are faithful Unitarian Universalists committed to the practice of free religion. We worship, sing, play, study, teach, and work for social justice together as congregations-all the while remaining strong in our individual convictions. If Unitarian Universalists hold such varied convictions, what does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist?

Join us as we re-establish our connection to the earth and the heavens with celebrations of earth-centered spirituality. There is no need to attend the church service prior to celebrating an event, and there is no commitment to be a regular attendee. There is a requested donation of $5 to cover costs of materials and the church facilities. Full Moon Circles are held at the church at 7PM on the night of the Full Moon. Unitarian Universalism
A liberal and diverse religious organization comprised of mostly atheists (or non-theists), agnostics, Humanists, liberal Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Neopagans, etc.
  • Belief in Deity: Very diverse beliefs - Unitarian Universalists welcome all deity beliefs as well as nontheistic beliefs. Some congregations are formed for those who share a common belief, e.g. Christianity.
  • Incarnations: Very diverse beliefs, including belief in no incarnations, or that all are the embodiment of God. Some believe Christ is God's Son, or not Son but "Wayshower."
  • Origins of universe/life: Diverse beliefs, but most believe in the Bible as symbolic and that natural processes account for origins.
  • After death: Diverse beliefs, but most believe that heaven and hell are not places, but are symbolic. Some believe heaven and hell are states of consciousness either in life or continuing after death; some believe in reincarnation; some believe that afterlife is nonexistent or not known or not important, as actions in life are all that matter.

unitarian universalism is a liberal Christianbased religion which has its roots in non-conformism. There is now a total absence of dogma and the most important tenet of Unitarians is that one's spiritual growth is one's own responsibility. UU's have a common concern with Social Justice and the Welfare of our Planet.

    - From "We are Unitarian Universalists" by Marta Flanagan
Hello, and welcome to my homepage, "The Conservative Unitarian Universalist!" This site contains news stories, links, action alerts, and my perspectives on the UU Principles and Purposes , as they relate to social issues and will hopefully be a meeting place for those of us who lean more toward the conservative side of Unitarian Universalism.
Notice (July 16, 2005): As returning visitors have most likely noticed, this website has not been updated regularly. Due to personal offline commitments, I have been unable to update as often as I should. I am in the process of adding links to topic-specific news sources to many of the topic pages so that you can keep up to date. However, I will continue to add news stories, links, and action alerts from time to time. Thank you for visiting!
Parents, please note that some of my pages contain some "adult" language and issues. I would probably give some pages a "PG-13" rating. I apologize if you have been offended by anything on my site.

    http://uua.org/mailman/listinfo/newcomers
newcomers for interested visitors and new UUs About newcomers English (USA) The Newcomers' list is a place where people who are new to Unitarian Universalism (or who are considering UUism) can share their experiences and exchange information about their religious journeys. It is a sensitive, non-judgmental, caring environment that supports the responsible search for truth and meaning in one's life. Because each of us is at a different place and because our journeys do not always lead us to the same destination, subscribers to the list agree to hold to certain standards: compassion, understanding, honesty, openness, no put-downs, no name-calling.
Thanks for your interest! We hope you'll join our discussion. Subscribing to newcomers Newcomers is a closed list with a small number of longer-time UUs who answer questions and act as moderators. If you want to subscribe, please write to the newcomers-owner@uua.org introducing yourself and stating that you want to join the list. Your introduction need not be long and elaborate one or two sentences will do. But if you want to write something long that's ok too! Most self-introductions will be posted to the list so all the newcomers can get to know each other and feel comfortable. After about 9 months of being a member of the list, each subscriber will "graduate" and be encouraged to leave the list. It is anticipated that they will find another UU list, such as UU-Community@uua.org, where discussions can continue.
