144. Animals Requesting Friends Benevolent Society
An all volunteer, nonfacility organization providing a referral service to rehome cats and dogs. Meeting schedule and contact information. Fairfield.

Animals Requesting Friends Benevolent Society
Our Pet List
Our Featured Pet... Tiger is a 4-5 yr old collie mix. He is a very sweet and loving dog that desperately needs a home. He was put in a local humane society as a puppy. He was then adopted, only to be put in a pen outside. He has lived there ever since he was adopted with little attention given to him at all. He is a very friendly dog that is starving for attention. He gets along well with other dogs, however he dislikes cats. Tiger needs a warm, loving, permanent home.
News
We are very excited about becoming a part of petfinder.org. Our Referral Service is a new project for our organization. Unfortunatley, we lack the funds, foster homes, or facility to foster/house any animals at this time. Therefore the animals must stay in their present location until the time of adoption. This makes it very important to find homes for our loving pets. We hope to increase our adoptions by putting our pets online.
Who We Are
Animals Requesting Friends is an all volunteer, not-for-profit, publicly supported, non-facility Humane Society founded to prevent the over breeding of cats and dogs by providing educational materials, programs, and financial assistance to pet owners for the purpose of spaying and neutering their pets in order to prevent the birth of unwanted animals and their eventual suffering.

Friends Of Mantario Trail
The Friends Of Mantario Trail is a group of individuals interested in preserving the wilderness experience of the Mantario Hiking Trail. The development of a private road to Nora Lake for owners of cottages in the backcountry has reduced the wilderness experience of the southern portion of the Mantario Hiking Trail. The negative effects on the environment and wilderness experience brought on by motorized access to this area have prompted the formation of this organization. The Friends Of Mantario Trail has relocated the southern portion of the hiking trail closer to the Ontario border to reestablish the wilderness experience of the trail. The group has also reduced the impact on the environment and the wildlife by establishing eco-friendly amenities in high use campgrounds, such as bear-proof food storage and backcountry latrines. To get involved contact Debora Voth at debbiev@mts.net

Friends of Cambridge University Library
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY The Friends of Cambridge University Library is a society founded to foster contacts between the Library and those interested in its collections, its history, its current activities, and its future development. The Friends' principal stated aims are to raise funds for the purchase and conservation of significant additions to the Library's collections, and to assist the Library to acquire such items by gift or bequest. Besides the satisfaction of contributing to the Library's collections, Friends receive several important benefits in return for their subscriptions. A programme of meetings, outings, visits to Library departments and talks on varied topics runs throughout the year, and members are most welcome to attend regular, exclusive, private views of new Library exhibitions. The Bulletin of the Friends, containing articles and notes about both Library and Society, is distributed regularly to members, who also receive copies of the Library Syndicate's annual report to the University. Most Library publications are available to individual Friends at a 20% discount, and no fee for the issue of a Reader's Ticket is payable by Friends who qualify in the normal way for admission.

153. Index2
Extracts from humorous records of walks by a group of friends 20 years ago.
http://www.cyberware.co.uk/~ddm221/K9-01.htm
The Journal of the Canine Universal Nature Training Society Many years ago some neighbours who had become my good friends persuaded me to give up 'doing things around the house' and go walking with them on Sunday mornings. One of them, 'J', wrote a weekly article about beer for a local newspaper, and often used the walks as a source of material. He adopted the style of Jerome K. Jerome in his famous book, 'Three Men in a Boat', and to preserve the anonymity of the walkers, he gave us pseudonyms, starting with 'George' and 'Harris'. He also coined the Society's name, on the basis that we used 'walking the dog' as an excuse to be at the pub door at opening time (then 12 noon). All the members had very demanding professions, so Sunday mornings became a wonderful time to 'let off steam', and our behaviour was the antithesis of our workaday responsibilities. Eventually I realised that I was having 'the Time of my Life' on our excursions, and so I began to record them afterwards in the pub, for I thought, "One day something will change, and things will never be the same again." As we walked along the sea wall our shadows walked with us; once we had noticed them they started to do exotic things.

If you can give a loving indoor home to not just one cat but three then please come meet Gwen (not pictured), Frodo, and Sam. These 6 year old sisters have been raised together and want to be adopted to the same home. They are already spayed, declawed, littertrained, and up to date on shots. Sam and Frodo are black with short hair, Gwen is black with long hair. Gwen was very badly matted when they came in and had to be shaved but her hair is growing back nicely. They would like a quiet home without small children or dogs. They would make great company for a lonely senior! There is a special discounted adoption fee for the trio.
