Excerpt
There are many faces to the chemical philosophy that is associated with the German reformer Theophrastus Paracelsus: his ideas penetrated radical theology, internal medicine, surgery, mineralogy, pharmacology, and even political philosophyinasmuch as Paracelsianism helped shape religious dissent in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Various aspects of this historical process have been examined in the large literature on Paracelsus and the Paracelsians, and on the Rosicrucian movement. Even so, the dynamics of the reception and rejection of Paracelsian ideas (as distinct from chemical drugs), and the effect that Paracelsian philosophy has had on early modern scientific writers, require further exploration and documentation. Specific instancesmicrohistorical studiesare needed in order to sustain or challenge the larger patterns that emerge. These studies need to be temporally and geographically diverse and contextually sensitive.

rancis Bacon played a vital role in restoring the practice of Freemasonry as an expression of Universal Wisdom and Law. Masonry presented an alternative to authoritarian religion based on ritual, the application of philanthropy, and modern scientific thought. Bacon and his initiates used emblems, symbols, unique words and poetry to inspire an enlightened approach to religion based on ancient teachings. These images point out some of the rituals and themes found in the Shakespeare plays.

Several modern societies have been formed for the study of Rosicrucianism and allied subjects, but in no sense are they directly derived from the "Brethren of the Rosy Cross" of the 17th century, though they are keen followers thereof. According to the legend, the Rosicrucian order was founded in by a German named Christian Rosenkreuz ), who studied in the Holy Land under various occult masters. During his lifetime, the order was alleged to be small, consisting of no more than eight members. When Rosencreuz died in , the order died out, only to be "reborn" in the early 17th century. This legend is accepted to varying degrees by modern Rosicrucians, with some accepting it as literal truth, others seeing it as a parable, and yet others believing Rosenkreuz to be a pseudonym for some more famous historical figure (

Egyptology, Rosicrucianism and the Quest for Immortality
by Ben Best Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California has an Egyptian Museum. It is the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities on the Pacific Coast. Many comparisons have been made between cryonics culture and Egyptian culture, so I think it may be worthwhile to write a few things about the famed Egyptian quest for immortality through bodily preservation. It has been said that ancient Egyptian civilization was the greatest "cult of death" humanity has ever known. For 3,000 years (ending with the death of Cleopatra) over half a billion people lived in a culture which emphasized mummification of the body and an estimated 50% of those people were actually preserved. Upon assuming office, pharoahs & nobles would immediately begin construction of their own tombs the greatest of which were the pyramids. Why did the Egyptians believe the physical body is so important for an afterlife? Egyptologists speculate that it was because the hot, dry desert sand so effectively removed water and thereby reduced decay of hair, skin and soft parts of the body. Therefore, when early Egyptians saw such well-preserved corpses they felt that the personal identity of the deceased must have been preserved also. The association of preserved familiar features with the living person or animal was so deeply imprinted in the mind that it was easy to imagine that some part of the person was "still there".

Rosicrucianism

Article by David Claiborne
The Rosicrucian movement is an esoteric tradition, stated by legend to have originated in Egyptian antiquity, purposefully maintaining secrecy throughout the years. Paracelsus, a Swiss alchemist who died in 1541, is also believed by some to be the true founder of this tradition. Rosicrucianism is primarily a synthesis of various esoteric movements, including (but by no means limited to) Egyptian Hermetism, Alchemy, Gnosticism and the Jewish Qabalah. An important distinction to be made when discussing Rosicrucianism is that of a tradition/movement, as opposed to an Order or society. Rosicrucianism is not an organized occult society, though there have been, and are, various occult societies within the Rosicrucian movement. When Rosicrucianism was first publicly mentioned in Germany in 1614, it was said to be an external manifestation of an ancient body of initiates, a recurring theme in Western occultism. This ancient tradition is none other than the mystical tradition, which has manifested in various forms the world over. The first published pamphlets regarded the Rosicrucian tradition were the Fama Fraternitatis (1614) and the Confessio Rosae Crucis (1615), translated under the title

Lewis, H. Spencer. Rosicrucian Questions and Answers With Complete History of the Rosicrucian Order . 1975 Kingsport Press, Kingsport, TN. LOCC #65-14964. Later on, Amenhotep IV, being a pharaoh and thus part of the GWB by default, came up with the concept of monotheism, in the sense that he instituted the worship of the sun as a symbol of 'God' rather than the sun being a god in and of itself. He also changed his name to Akhnaton (meaning 'pious to Aton', the sun god) and built the GWB a cross-shaped temple at El Amarna, which was reputedly the first monastery. He also came up with the rose/cross symbolism and the ankh, or crux ansata, which are blatantly sexual/generative symbols. However, the Egyptians in general went right back to polytheism when he died in 1350 BCE. Around the time of Ramses II, the Egyptian government and people started getting paranoid about the GWB, being as they knew entirely too much and held too much power. At this point, the Egyptian government was starting to decline pretty badly, so one of the order (Hermes, aka Hermes Trismegistus, or thrice-blessed, who was the Head of the order for a while) finally committed most of their info to writing on a bunch of tablets and books, in code so nobody but GWB could understand them. The writings were hidden, and not found again until about 400 AD.

Rosicrucianism and Christianity
by Charles Weber
Is Rosicrucianism a religion? Not in any traditional sense of the word. But it is religious. It espouses Christianity, but a Christianity not yet conspicuously in evidence. What is religion? Etymologically the word means to bind back, which suggests religion's function: to return man or turn man (convert) to God, to redirect and raise his mundane consciousness to the object of its rightful contemplation. Generally, religion means theism or belief in God. Rosicrucianism thus serves a complementary role to religion. It aims to facilitate and strengthen human Godwardness, to remove barriers that may exist between the believer and God. For Rosicrucianism, the main barrier is ignorance. And for modern man, that ignorance is born of pride and materialistic thinking. Rosicrucianism was given to humanity in anticipation of the inadequacies of traditional religion to contend with evolving humanity's increasingly demanding and logic-driven intellect. The overriding concern of the Brothers of the Rosicrucian Order was to "make no statements that are not supported by reason and logic." Modern man wants to know why he should believe before he will consent to try to believe. Max Heindel was chosen by the Elder Brothers to meet that need. The Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conception (hereafter RCC) is the result. It is not dogmatic and appeals to no no other authority than the reason of the reader. Traditional religion does not appeal to reason. It simply demands acceptance of and implicit faith in its pronouncements. But in the Cosmo and the Rosicrucian Christianity Lectures (hereafter RCL)
