New Age philosophy is based on ancient traditions, alchemy, gnosticism, rosicrucianism, Freemasonry. Its roots are explored in Eastern and Western traditions.

The New Age movement is hardly novel! Its philosophy is rooted in ancient traditions, often based on mystical experiences, each within a different context. Anthropologically, there have always been (wo)men within "primitive" societies who were looked upon as possessing special knowledge and power. Medicine men, or shamans, had undergone a spontaneous catharsis, or were initiated and felt called upon to maintain contact with the spirit world for the clan. When communities became more complex and organized there was little place for these loners. Society began to specialize, people realized and felt drawn to form groups, guilds, or societies, to ensure continuance and growing perfection. Contact with the spirit world was given into the hands of organized religion, which also provided an established answer to questions about the unknown and the Highest Power. People who felt endowed with special powers could hardly adapt themselves to the corset of established faith. They went underground. Yet they endeavoured to contact kindred spirits and pupils willing to follow in their footsteps to pass on the work. Esoteric tradition became handed down in spiritual groups, communes, or fraternities. Their mutual devotion resulted in a high degree of perfection comparable to the guilds of craftsmen. In their mystical experiences they beheld a spiritual reality that could hardly be reconciled with the dogmatic representation given by the churches. When passing on their experiences, they had to exercise extreme caution, lest being accused of heresy. Yet knowledgeable minds would understand their veiled writings, symbolic representations, or even gestures.

http://www.zyworld.com/jamus/RC-CW.htm
Is Rosicrucianism a religion? Not in any traditional sense of the word. But it is religious. It espouses Christianity, but a Christianity not yet conspicuously in evidence. What is religion? Etymologically the word means to bind back, which suggests religion's function: to return man or turn man (convert) to God, to redirect and raise his mundane consciousness to the object of its rightful contemplation. Generally, religion means theism or belief in God. Rosicrucianism thus serves a complementary role to religion. It aims to facilitate and strengthen human Godwardness, to remove barriers that may exist between the believer and God. For Rosicrucianism, the main barrier is ignorance. And for modern man, that ignorance is born of pride and materialistic thinking. The motto of occultism is "There is but one Sin-Ignorance; and but one Salvation-Applied Knowledge" (RCL, p. 20). Where is spiritual knowledge obtained? From "the Great Western Mystery School of the Rosicrucian Order" (Rosicrucian Mysteries, p. 19, hereafter RM), which has been entrusted with "molding the thought of Western Europe" (ibid, p. 9). Its teachers are Elder Brothers, its curriculum includes the science of the soul and the science of the spirit, and its pupils and students are those bold souls who desire to take their salvation (read initiation) into their own hands and storm heaven. They are the "undaunted spirits who refuse to be fettered by either orthodox science or orthodox religion" (RCC, p. 519).

These responses were adapted to fit the format and style of the FAQ. What is the CR+C? The Confraternity of the Rose Cross is a Rosicrucian fraternal order and school of mysticism. Our aim is to offer a system of study to people who have felt an urge from within to consciously advance themselves along the path of spiritual evolution. Also, it needs to be understood that we are more than a school of mysticism disseminating teachings. We are an initiatic Order in the Rosicrucian tradition. Those with "traditional" minds can look at us as a Rosicrucian traditional culture living in a contemporary society. Altogether we are a mystical, cultural, and educational organization dedicated to the spiritual advancement of humanity.

http://www.geocities.com/newworldorder_themovie/rosicrucianism.html
Rosicrucianism Rosicrucianism is a mystical belief system and ideology that pursues spiritual and alchemical goals largely through Occult and Christian Gnostic paths. However, throughout history its endeavors have largely been to gain material power on the material plane, and the deep Gnostic teachings have become twisted.
The core of the Secret Doctrine of Rosicrucianism, or Mystic Christianity , is the pursuit of psychic power to control the mind of one's self and others. Through the control of one's will, one gains the unification of one's psychic energies, although it is accepted that certain negative emotions such as guilt, are the inevitable consequence of attempts to control another human being. However, the doctrine overcomes these human feelings by requiring the student to "polarize themselves at the positive pole of a particular emotional state, and by a process of refusing or denial they manage to escape the effects of the swing of the emotional pendulum to the negative pole."
The philosophy goes so far as to state that there is no difference between these two poles or opposites and thus negativity or darkness can be perceived as positivity and light. The Master has learned to strengthen his own will, and control others, directly through the repression of his emotions. The initiated Rosicrucian therefore looks upon the pain and suffering of the world as being no different from the opposing pole of peace and happiness, and in fact believes that one cannot exist without the other. Thus for peace to exist in one country, war must be raging in another, for wealth and abundance to exist in one region, poverty and famine must exist in another.

Rosicruciana in Canada Revised December 8, 2000 Instituted June 29, 1997 Masonic Rosicrucianism In Canada M.W. Frater Dr. Claude Brodeur, IX o , Ontario College, SRIC Preamble This paper was read May 7, 1995, at a meeting of the John Ross Robertson Chapter of the Philalethes Society , the Etobicoke Masonic Hall, Ontario, with the title "Masonic Rosicrucianism in Ontario." It well could have been titled, as it is here, "Masonic Rosicrucianism in Canada," since the Ontario College was really about the founding of Masonic Rosicrucianism in Canada. Introduction In this paper on Masonic Rosicrucianism in Ontario, I address four questions. Two are historical and two are speculative. The historical questions are: How did Masonic Rosicrucianism come to Ontario? Who were some of the people involved ? The speculative questions are: What is peculiarly

http://23.1911encyclopedia.org/R/RO/ROSICRUCIANISM.htm
ROSICRUCIANISM
ROSICRUCIANISM. What is known as the Society of Rosicrucians (Rosenkreuzer) was really a number of isolated individuals who early in the I7th century held certain views in common (which apparently was their only bond of union); for of a society holding meetings, and having officers, there is no trace. So far as the numerous works are concerned it is evident that the writers who posed as Rosicrucians were moral and religious reformers, and utilized the technicalities of chemistry (alchemy), and the sciences generally, as media through which to make known their opinions, there being a flavour of mysticism or occultism promotive of inquiry and suggestive of hidden meanings discernible or discoverable only by adepts. The curious legend, in which the fabulous origin of the so-called society was enshrined (that a certain Christian Rosenkreuz had discovered the secret wisdom of the East on a pilgrimage in the 15th century), was so improbable, though ingenious, that the genesis of the Rosicrucians was generally overlooked or ignored, but the worthy objects of the fratres were soon discovered and supported by several able men; the result being a mass of literature on the subject, which absorbs some 80 pages of Gardners Catalogue Raisonn of Works on the Occult Sciences (London, 1903). The influence that Rosicrucianism had in the modernizing of ancient Freemasonry early in the 18th century must have been slight, if any, though it is likely that as the century advanced, and additional ceremonies were grafted on to the first three degrees, Rosicrucian tedets were occasionally introduced into the later rituals. So far, however, as the real foundation ceremonies of Craft Masonry are concerned, whether before or after the premier Grand Lodge was formed, it is most unlikely that such a society as the Freemasons woud adopt anything of a really distinctive character from any other organization.

INDEX OF PAPERS ANTI-MASONRY PAPAL BULLS Rosicrucianism
by Percy Jantz, Feb. 4 2002 Rosicrucians. Not rose crux, rose cross, but ros crux, dew cross. Dew was considered by the ancient chemists as the most powerful solvent of gold ; and cross in alchemy is the synonym of light, because any figure of a cross contains the three letters L V X (light). "Lux" is the menstruum of the red dragon ( i.e. corporeal light), and this gross light properly digested produces gold, and dew is the digester. Hence the Rosicrucians are those who used dew for digesting lux or light, with the objest of finding the philosopher's stone. "As for the Rosycross philosophers.
Whom you will have to be but sorcerers,
What they pretend to is no more
Than Trismegistus did before,
Pythagoras, old Zoroaster,
And Apollonius their master."
Butler : Hudibras, pt. ii. 3. E. Cobham Brewer, Hertfordshire : Wordsworth Editions Ltd, 1993. pb. p.1076. incorrectly
The birth of Rosicrucianism is almost universally attributed to John Valentine Andrea, a German monk. He was known for his charity and his attempts to promote the betterment of mankind through study and learning.
Scholars believe it was he, in 1614, who published a fictional book called "The Chemical Marriage" by Christian Rosenkreuz.
