We are committed to building a community which is truly Catholic, united in our adherence to the faith handed down through the ages from the apostles. This Week in the Beacon Catechesis: A Needed Service of Evangelization
Catechesis is a lifelong formation. It is the attentive listening to the Word of God as spoken in the Church's Tradition. It is the growing in a more generous response to the demands God makes on us. Catechesis ultimately aims at stimulating an encounter with God by forming attentive disciples of the Lord and sharers in the Church's mission. A Personal Encounter with the Lord and growth in the fire of love of God-this is the aim of the Church catechesis that embraces all the faithful in their journey of faith and continual conversion. In every age, there are challenges to our own catechetical formation.
Fountain of Youth Makes Splash in Cologne

Whoever coined that adage, "Youth is wasted on the young," would get quite an argument from a certain septuagenarian - namely Pope Benedict XVI. The joy in the pope's face washed away the adage as he was invigorated by a fountain of youth - some 1 million of them - who made the biggest splash Cologne, Germany has witnessed in many years. World Youth Day once again attested to the vitality of the Church on display in the faces of our youth for the entire world to see.

by John Ankerberg and John Weldon About This Article Back to A-Z Index About The Color Key ... Research Resources Roman Catholicism: Diverse worldwide Index of Cults and Religions , Watchman Fellowship In their book, , John Ankerberg and John Weldon write: Categories of Roman Catholicism The issues surrounding Catholic belief and authority are compounded by the fact there are some ten categories of Roman Catholicism around the world. The distinctions between them are often not clear because they may tend to overlap and merge or blur into one another. Nor would individual Catholics necessarily appreciate or agree with such labels. But they will serve as a convenient grouping for purposes of illustration: Nominal or social Catholicism The Roman Catholicism of the largely uncommitted perhaps those born or married into the Church but who have little knowledge of Rome's theology. In practice, they are principally Catholics in name only, although still Catholics ''in Christ'' because of baptism. Syncretistic/eclecti Catholicism The Roman Catholicism that is, to varying degrees, combined with and/or absorbed by the pagan religion of the indigenous culture in which it exists (e.g., as in South America and Africa).

Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge
Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina has inflicted immeasurable damage to southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi! Fortunately, the Diocese of Baton Rouge has suffered little in the way of physical damage to our churches, schools and properties.
Unfortunately, our neighbors to the east were not so lucky. Many persons from the Archdiocese of New Orleans, especially have relocated into our diocese. These clergy, religious and laity are struggling to cope with immense losses. Our own faith community is struggling to help them in this time of need.
One thing that has not been lost is our hope in the healing power of our Savior, Jesus Christ. "He comforts us in all our afflictions and thus enables us to comfort those who are in trouble, with the same consolation we have received from him" (1 Cor 1:4). Bishop Robert Muench urges you to join with us in prayer and charity in this difficult time, as we seek to minister to those in need.

unbloody manner. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
re-presents (makes present) the sacrifice of
the cross, because it is its memorial and because it applies its fruit:
(Christ), our Lord and God, was once and for all to offer himself to God the Father by his death on the altar of the cross, to accomplish there an everlasting redemption. But because his priesthood was not to end with his death, at the Last Supper 'on the night when he was betrayed,' (he wanted) to leave to his beloved spouse the Church a visible sacrifice (as the nature of man demands) by which the bloody sacrifice which he was to accomplish once for all on the cross would be re-presented , its memory perpetuated until the end of the world, and its salutary power be applied to the forgiveness of the sins we daily commit.
