    Iona Community

"Iona is a small island off the west coast of Scotland, where in 563 Columba founded a Celtic monastery that was very influential in its own times. In the middle ages it was the site of a Benedictine abbey and over the centuries has attracted many thousands of people on their own pilgrim journeys. The Iona Community, founded in 1938 by the Rev George MacLeod, then a parish minister in Glasgow is an ecumenical Christian community that is committed to seeking new ways of living the Gospel in today's world. Initially this purpose was expressed through the rebuilding of the monastic quarters of the mediaeval abbey on Iona and pursued in mission and ministry throughout Scotland and beyond. The Community today remains committed to: rebuilding the common life, through working for social and political change, striving for the renewal of the church with an ecumenical emphasis, and exploring new more inclusive approaches to worship, all based on an integrated understanding of spirituality."

MESSAGE FROM DR. JOHN HUFFMAN In my last communication to you, I reported to you that our colleague, Dr. Larry Ball, was retiring at the end of August. I have been hard at work with elders, staff and Dr. Ball seeking to find a replacement or interim. At the meeting of the Ministry Committee last Tuesday, they voted unanimously to offer the position of Minister of Music and Worship to Dr. James Melton. Yours in Christ, John Building The Future Friday, August 12. . .
Last night was quite a night at the Newport Beach City Council meeting, which ran from 6:00 p.m. until after 1:00 a.m. Thank you so much for your prayers and continuing interest in our endeavor to provide a physical facility adequate for the next quarter century of St. Andrew's ministry. Looking for something?
We are all looking for something. Something...from the mundanity of lifelike a stray button, lost keys, the perfect outfit; to more important things like a good school, a reliable employee, a safe place to live;to our very deepest need of being spiritually restored to right relationship with God.
First Church was born of grace in 1885, and exists to introduce Jesus Christ as our way of life, that many may come to "taste and see that the Lord is good."
It's that taste of life in Christ that we seek in and through the ministries of First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa. So, if you're looking for something real and genuine in your life, we pray that you will find Jesus Christ here, with us.

by John Olson
Who's to say what's right and what's wrong?
A. THERE IS A RULE THAT DEFINES RIGHT AND WRONG IN GOD HIMSELF
1. This is sometimes called "eternal law"
2. This standard is an aspect of God's holiness [2.16, 11, 2]
3. This standard in God becomes our standard for life [be holy for I am holy]

Announcements
Hurricane Katrina Relief HURRICANE KATRINA UPDATE From Mission to North America As we continue to follow the news from New Orleans and Mississippi, reports tell us of increasing flooding and loss of life continues to grow. Accordingly, we are realizing the need to respond at a level unlike any previous natural disasters in recent history in North America. Within the next few days, Mission to North America will gather a group of PCA key leaders from Louisiana and Mississippi to make plans for relief efforts. Mission to the World has also graciously offered to seek involvement from those who normally assist with disaster response overseas.
