Seven Age Dispensationalism
To say that the appearance of the Scofield Reference Bible in 1909 caused a dramatic change in evangelical Christianity would be an understatement. Many have studied its footnotes with great care, almost giving them an authority equal to the biblical text itself. Anyone who dares raise any question about its teachings is immediately called a "liberal," or worse, and the walls go up as if one were making an attack on a believer's faith. Yet the "Seven Age Dispensationalism" of the Scofield Bible just may be a case of the emperor wearing no clothes. This writer was a firm believer in Scofield's presentation at one time, and remembers well the crisis when it began to unravel for him. I researched two different theological libraries to trace the roots of Scofield's thesis, and present my findings briefly on this page. But let me say thisif you feel that the material here might be a threat to your faith, please read no further. And if you do continue, you may decide that seven age dispensationalism is completely biblical. But please believe me when I say that I am not attempting to do a "hatchet job" on some well intentioned men who earned the respect of generations of my Christian brothers and sisters.
Cyrus I. Scofield

Peeling the Onion
Who are the Exclusive Brethren? Where did they come from? How do they live? What do they believe? What are the facts? Are they globally-structured? Why are they so secretive? What are their plans? The content of this section and following material has been gleaned from public domain sources. Source documents are located on Peebs.Net or, where necessary, direct links are provided to referenced source material. The main objective of this section of Peebs.Net is to attempt to draw back an intentionally drawn and historically placed curtain of secrecy that has been designed to mask the structure and infrastructure of the modern Exclusive Brethren. This section will remain a work in progress and as new material is uncovered, it will be added to this collection of knowledge. It is the intent of Peebs.Net to avoid speculation and guesswork in the construction of this information. Material which is considered doubtful in origin or accuracy is either marked as such, or is not yet included. Acknowledgement is given to the many contributors and researchers who painstakingly continue to search for material prior to forwarding the information and occasionally their analysis to Peebs.Net. Clearly, this important task would be impossible without their help. Where extra clarification is required, the Peebs.Net Forums are used for discussion - excellent feedback and assistance is almost always forthcoming. The Peebs.Net Forums are available to those who are, or once were, part of the Exclusive Brethren.

"The Bruderhof is a community movement of families and single men and women, living in 7 communities in New York, Pennsylvania, and southern England. The basis of our communal life is Christ's Sermon on the Mount, in particular the teachings concerning brotherly love and love of enemies, mutual service, nonviolence and the refusal to bear arms. We share everything in common, and each member gives his or her talents, time, and effort wherever they are needed. Money and possessions are pooled voluntarily and in turn each member is provided for and cared for."

Letters to My Church
Letters to My Beloved
A Summary
Raised in a wonderful, loving, godly, Protestant (or, more precisely, Anabaptist) Christian home, I grew up believing in God and calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save me. I consciously committed my life to Christ at about age eight and was baptized when I was thirteen in the "Plymouth brethren" assembly in which I had grown up. From my parents I learned to seek the Truth with my whole heart, to speak it in love, and to live it. From the assembly I learned to seek the Truth in the Scriptures and to love them and to study them diligently and to apply them to my everyday life. From C.S. Lewis and the gospel of John I learned that Jesus Christ was the Truth—and the Way and the Life. I also went to a Christian high-school, where I learned to debate from and with a Lutheran friend of mine—against him on the question of infant baptism, and with him against most of my Mennonite teachers and classmates on the questions of pacifism and capital punishment. I have often said that the only thing I like better than decisively winning a debate is decisively losing one—which is a good thing, since, in the long run, I have found my oppenents to be far more right than I ever thought them to be. Shortly after I graduated from high-school, I met an Orthodox Christian who seemed far more wrong on far more than any of my Christian opponents ever had been. Either that or (scary thought!) far more right. After about eight years of debating with him—and with his arguments when he wasn't actally present—I decided I had to resolve the question one way or another (it was far too important to simply ignore it) by looking into the history upon which both our extra-Biblical arguments were based. (Even the most thorougly Bible- believing Christian's faith is ultimately founded on extra-Biblical arguments: if our Lord Himself could not bear witness of Himself, how much less can the Scriptures which merely testify of Him be an adequate witness to their own authority!)

Standard Pub. Co. Chicago : 1912. 3 v. in 4. : front., ill., ports.; 28 cm. Vols. I-II edited by Frank W. Blackmar. Transcribed July 2002 by Carolyn Ward. Plymouth, Brethren The movement came to America as the result of the emigration of a number of the members who located in the United States and Canada about the middle of the 19th century. Mr. Darby made several trips to this country and a number of congregations were formed. Since that time meetings have multiplied and the church has been established in several states. This church was not established in Kansas, however, until a late date, for in 1900 there was but one organization, located in Woodson county, with 16 members. During the next fifteen years rapid progress was made, as 17 organizations were reported in 1905 with a total membership of 308. Christianity Subdivisions Page 1 of 5 Printable version of this page The Exclusive Brethren Introduction The Exclusive Brethren are an Evangelical Protestant Christian church related to the Christian or Open Brethren. Members follow a rigid code of conduct based very strictly on Bible teaching, which provides a firm moral framework and is focussed on a strong family unit. They keep themselves separate from other people (including other Christians) as far as possible, because they believe the world is a place of wickedness. They regard 'exclusiveness' as the only way to keep away from evil. The main group of Exclusive Brethren are called 'Taylorites' after James Taylor Senior and Junior who led the church for much of the twentieth century. This group is secretive so most of the information available about them comes from people who have left it. As a result the Exclusive Brethren often gets a bad press and is referred to using phrases like "an exclusive and secret religious sect" or "a secretive church".
