Attention Online Policy Group Users...
On Thursday, OPG's main server suffered a catastrophic disk failure. Most web, mail, and list services are unavailable. We are working to restore service and to recover the data we can, but our backups are not up-to-date. We will have a report from the disk recovery vendor later in the week. If you can donate to help OPG stay online through this costly time, see the bottom of this page.
Wed Sep 7 04:21:10 PDT 2005 Reconstruction of the server continues we should be up to receive uploading of sites and lists by this evening. Meanwhile we are awaiting news on potential data recovery. Mon Sep 5 19:55:29 PDT 2005 We are making progress toward rebuilding our web and list server environment (though we will not know about restoring data until later in the week). By tomorrow evening, we should be able to set up space for clients tp re-upload their sites. If you have a backup of your site, AND your site does not use a database on our server (or you have a backup of the database), please mail onlinepolicygrup@gmail.com with your domain name, web username, and password we will swnd you reuploading directions. Sun Sep 4 17:15:43 PDT 2005 If you have lists hosted in your own lists domain NOT groups.onlinepolicy.net or groups.queernet.org we can capture all incoming messages in one big catch-all mailbox, if you so choose. In the future days when list service is back up, you can re-post your subscribers messages to the appropriate lists manually, or you can reply to them manually to tell them why their messages aren't being received. Otherwise, messages will be retried for up to five days (depending on the sender's ISP or employer) and then returned undeliverable. If you want us to hold all messages, contact us at onlinepolicygroup@gmail.com to let us know and we'll set up a holding mailbox. This will only be for entire list domains NOT one holding box per list.

By focusing on both religion and culture, reconstructionists are able to understand how ancient practices evolved and how to accurately recreate them. Archaeological research is highly emphasized along with mythological and historical research, all united through poetic inspiration. The Celtic moral code stresses truthfulness, honor and personal responsibility. Through these concepts, strong ties to the Celtic past are made. These ideals express themselves in the ideas of equality between men and women, a concern for the family, and a strong tie to the land and ancestors.

the Spirit Watch In And Out Of Wicca - A Former Wiccan Speaks By Donalyn Vaughn In And Out Of Wicca: An Ex-Wiccan Speaks - Click Here To Listen By Real Audio H ow I got involved in paganism is all too common, I'm afraid. I was raised in a churched home. By that, I mean that we went to church but didn't live any differently than my friends who did not go to church. I was very active in the church growing up and as a teen. We attended the First Christian Church (independant), and I was active in youth group, Sunday School, choir. I was there everytime the doors were open. But I didn't have any strong background at home. I had always been fascinated by magic. I started off innocently enough reading my horoscope (my mom did this, and didn't see anything wrong with it). My favorite movies and TV shows as a kid were all about witches and magic, now I was living out my fantasy. Just like millions of people can drink a beer and never get addicted to alcohol, millions of people can watch a show like Bewitched and never think anything of it, but some people have a weakness in this area that leaves them vulnerable. I was one of those people. I had many experiences as a child that I know opened that door for me, and made me vulnerable. The pagans I met said I had a gift of the sight that ran in my family. I know now that Satan used my gifts that God had given me. All of the little openings into the occult in my childhood (the movies, TV shows, games I played, etc) opened a door, that Satan used to get me to serve him rather than God. One movie that really stuck out in my mind as starting the whole mess was a movie I watched that starred Melissa Sue Anderson as a bad witch, and another child actress as a good witch. I didn't know it at the time but it was all about Wicca, and that movie affected me greatly, and I believed opened the door to my fascination with witchcraft.

Well, I guess I should indulge in the requisite personal history. After all, I'm leaving this page to history to say I was here!
What to say about myself?
I am a 27-year-old Libra, born October 15, 1975. I am currently living in Columbus, OH, with my sweeties Matt and Viv. Yay for the beginnings of community! I just recently graduated from the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction. I have an AA in Music from Westark College and a BFA in Creative Writing from Arkansas Tech University . I'm currently unemployed but looking, so if any of you out there know of any good editing jobs in Columbus, please email me ! In my spare time (which I used to complain that I didn't have enough of...and now I have too much of!), I like to read (sci-fi/fantasy mostly-I'm a HUGE Robert Heinlein and Anne McCaffrey fan!), listen to music (almost anything except country, but especially new age, classical, and rock), write poetry and nonfiction (mostly memoirish pieces), compose music, and/or surf around the Net.

an overview
A simple, factual explanation of what Paganism actually is. It is pure information written for anyone who is non Pagan or who is Pagan but wants to know more. It is not meant to impress or proselytise.
NOTE: I have had some letters from Christians who claim this essay is anti-Christian. That is not the case. The comparisons with Christianity are objective and without any harmful intent.
In simplest terms Paganism is a religion of place, or a native religion, for example the Native American's religion is Pagan, Hinduism is a form of Paganism. All Pagan religions are characterised by a connection and reverence for nature, and are usually polytheistic i.e. have many Gods and/or Goddesses. Modern Paganism as practised in the west is particular to the native peoples of the west and although there are many forms most are descended from Celtic origins. Modern Paganism or 'neo-Paganism' has the following characteristics: Paganism is a religion of nature, in other words Pagans revere Nature. Pagans see the divine as immanent in the whole of life and the universe; in every tree, plant, animal and object, man and woman and in the dark side of life as much as in the light. Pagans live their lives attuned to the cycles of Nature, the seasons, life and death. Unlike the patriarchal religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) the divine is female as well as male and therefore there is a Goddess as well as a God. These deities are within us as well as without us (immanent); they

What is Paganism?
Paganism is the oldest religion known to humanity. Its origins are obscure, but conjectured to have arisen with humanity's own desire to explore the unknown, and seek unity with the divine force (however that may be perceived). Therefore, Paganism has no founder or founders, no earthly leaders, no prophets, no messiahs, and no saints. The word Pagan is derived from the Latin Paganus, "a civilian", and from Pagus, "a village". This delineates Pagans as those who are from a village, or more commonly, simply country-dwellers. Whilst the majority of Pagans today - like the majority of the population - live in towns, this term accurately describes the Pagan heritage, and the affinity which modern Pagans feel with the natural environment. Thus modern Pagans follow a religion which is as old as humanity itself, but whose practices have been adapted to suit life in the modern world. The concepts which were vital to sustaining life in bygone times - as in the hunter-gatherer, or agricultural, societies - are revered, and their principles have been retained; however, we accept that in practice, our modern lives are sustained in very different ways.

Paganism
What is Paganism?
Paganism is a catchall term for a number of religions which imitate or draw from ancient spiritualities (Neopagan religions) and the polytheistic religions of the ancient peoples of Europe. Generally, Pagan religions emphasize a reverence for the earth and universe, and promote self-empowerment. (Indeed, there are some striking parallels between Paganism and Buddhism, about which I hope to post soon.) They also often involve magic; some Pagan religions do, some do not, and there is variation even within a particular religion.

The Witch-Hunts Continue
The witch-hunting days are not over. They have simply changed form. Evangelical Christians lump Pagan religions together with atheism and Satanism, perhaps even Judaism and Islam, as being anti-Christian. Some give Pagans the benefit of the doubt, as Satan is deceiving them. Some claim that Pagans simply refuse to admit their submission to Satan. On several evangelical sites with pages devoted to the occult, there are links to articles with advice on how to convert Pagans. Let me stress that evangelical Christians are certainly not the only people who hold misconceptions about Paganism, though they certainly do much to spread these mistruths. When and how did this perception of Pagan religions being diabolical and anti-Christian begin? Historically, Witchcraft has persisted since the general conversion of Europe to Christianity. Witchcraft was likely suppressed before by those who want to crush competition to Christianity, and the suppressors claimed it was blasphemous. One scholar argues that rationalism and scientism, which produced skeptical attitudes toward magic and new, empirically confirmed explanations of the workings of the universe, were greater enemies of magic than Christianity

var site="S13XENEx" Letting the Sky In by Emily So, let me start at the beginning. Well, no, actually even at the beginning we find ourselves at the end of the story, but to truly understand what's happening here we need a little more info on the Shedletsky clan. I know I walked the dog, and still I couldn't cry. I think I went back to the hospital but honestly I don't remember if I went back or stayed at home. I remember sitting on the kitchen floor holding onto Quest as if he were the only thing left in this universe. He stood, stoic, waiting for me to finish, head bowed with me as I tried to share my pain with the only one who I felt I could really cry to at that momentthe only one who would simply be with me. He pushed his warm skinny head against my chest and just waited, big eyes doleful as if he was the only one who had already known of these events and he had just been waiting for us to understand. I think I went to sleep, I think I took some Tylenol PM so that oblivion might be more quickly acquired, I didn't know that this was the beginning, that I would quickly long for the moment when I thought it was simply one brain tumor. When those odds felt easy.
