Introduction
Print Preview of Section Orthodox Church , one of the three historic and distinctive types of Christianity , along with the Roman Catholic Church and the diverse body of Protestant churches. Orthodoxy is the form of Christianity that developed first in the Eastern Roman Empire (which spanned present-day Greece, Turkey, and the Middle East) and later in the Slavic lands of eastern Europe. The Orthodox Church sees itself as the authentic continuation of the first Christian communities established by the apostles of Jesus in the cities of the ancient Mediterranean world and spread by missionary activity throughout eastern Europe. Today most Orthodox Christians live in Russia, eastern Europe, or on the Balkan Peninsula, but there are also large Orthodox communities in North and South America as well as Australia, and smaller numbers in western Europe, Africa, and Asia. By the year 2000 the Orthodox Church had about 210 million adherents throughout the world. Of these, about 15 million are Greek-speaking; the rest speak Slavic or other European languages, or Arabic. Alternative designations, such as Catholic Apostolic and Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, and Eastern Orthodox, are also used in reference to the Orthodox Church.

102. General The Richness Of Georgian Architecture Is Fully Manifested
christianity represents the dominant religion, and the Georgian orthodox Church has Georgia adopted christianity in 337 AD. Traditionally Nonorthodox
http://www.parliament.ge/CULTURE/GENINF/Cultur.html
General The richness of Georgian architecture is fully manifested in the existence of numerous churches. The history of this field of architecture is connected to the development of Georgian domed churches with a square central bay and four arms around it forming a cross . The versatile folk architecture is also worth being pointed out here. The Darbazi type of dwelling was typical to the Eastern regions, whereas the Oda type prevailed in the West of Georgia. Fortresses and towers were widespread in the mountainous regions. Georgian folk music, which has been evolving over three millennia, contributed particularly to the world culture. One of the most peculiar features of it is itss free polyphonic composition (2,5 or 4 voices). Georgian school of painting and icon painting, frequently exhibited in and outside of the country is also worth being pointed out here. The unique ancient frescoes reveal the specifics, traditions and skills of their creators. Georgian literature, especially poetry, is of non-less importance than the above-mentioned fields of culture. Georgian theatre and cinema are well known abroad. Even the "iron curtain", which had separated Georgia from the rest of the world. could not prevent it from recognising those. Georgian opera singers and musicians are also well-known overseas.

OCMC is the official international missions and evangelism agency of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the Americas (SCOBA).
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) proclaims and practices the evangelical imperative of the Orthodox faith based on the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who commissioned us to go "and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). OCMC recruits, trains and sends missionaries to preach, teach, baptize and to minister to the poor, hungry, sick, suffering and orphaned. We, therefore, support the development of indigenous leaders and strengthen the infrastructures of churches, especially in, though not limited to, countries where Christianity is a minority, thus creating vibrant, eucharistic Orthodox Christian communities throughout the world.

Orthodox Links
These are links to Orthodox web sites kept in a database maintained by Steve Hayes. The list comes straight from a database of Internet resources that I keep. People send me information about their Web sites on on-line forms, and I pull them into the database with minimal editing, and this list is as the database spits them out, in alphabetical order of organisation, based on the search argument orthodox . So the fact that as site appears here just means that the word "orthodox" appears somewhere in the record. It is no guarantee of the Orthodoxy of the material of the site, or the canonicity of the sponsoring body. It's got the lot. You will find more links on our general links page , and a few more on some of our other pages as well. The links on the other pages are selected and ordered in some way - either because I think they are worth looking at, or because they are related to something else on the page. If your site is here, and the information isn't accurate, or you don't like what it says, e-mail

In Focus The rejection of materialism (Part XXI) The primary reason Karl Marx hated religion specifically Judaism and Christianity was that he regarded it as the "opiate of the masses." This attitude has permeated all leftist views of religion since Marx: Religion keeps people from making revolutions to materially better their lives. Lest We Forget - Remembering Romanian persecution In 1999, the Romanian National Institute for the Study of Totalitarianism published a volume entitled "The Imprisoned Church: Romania, 1944-1989." It is presented as a "dictionary" that details the persecution and suffering endured by clergy and other figures in the Orthodox, Catholic (Eastern and Roman) and Protestant Churches in Romania during the period of communist domination. [Aug. 2005] The value of private charity Private charity develops a sense of personal responsibility for recipients, and it does something similar for donors, too. When you rely on the government to help those who need it, you don't practice benevolence yourself. You don't take responsibility for deciding whom to help. Just as public assistance discourages the poor from becoming independent by rewarding them with fixed handouts, it discourages the rest of us from being benevolent.

Orthodox Christian Doctrine
An icon from Mount Athos During Credo, I believe ) which summarises the True Christian Doctrine. This Nicene Creed as originally formulated is faithfully recited by the Orthodox at the Liturgy in all the churches in all places of Orthodox worship: I believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and our Salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures: And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father; Who with the Father and Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets: And I believe one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins: And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the life of the world to come. Amen.
