Yule Norse or Scandinavian mythology refers to the pre- Christian religion , beliefs and legends of the Scandinavian people, including those who settled on Iceland , where the written sources for Norse mythology were assembled. It is the best-known version of the older common Germanic paganism and Germanic mythology , which also includes the closely related Anglo-Saxon mythology . Germanic mythology, in its turn, had evolved from an earlier

A whois-who of classical, norse, Gaelic and Egyptian mythology.
http://www.akasha.demon.co.uk/main.htm
This web page is dedicated to the wonderful stories and legends found in the ancient mythologies. Being mainly Celtic with a dash of Greek, I have always been facinated with the myths of those two races. Recently I have researched Norse mythology and found that there is an equally exciting supply of legend there. Finally, inspired by an upcoming trip to Egypt I started to look at their myths, which although highly confusing, have a wealth of interesting deities and beliefs My only problem in constructing this web site has been in deciding what to put in and what to leave out. I have basically compromised by including a glossary of the main characters in Norse, Gaelic, Egyptian and Classical Mythology and including a few of my own favorite stories. I hope, that like me, you may be inspired to read more about the myths of these great cultures.

34. Viking Religion
Introduction to the preChristian religious beliefs of the Scandinavian people.
http://www.feri.com/dawn/religion.html
Scandinavian Mythology, pre-Christian religious beliefs of the Scandinavian people.
The Scandinavian legends and myths about ancient heroes, gods, and the creation and destruction of the universe developed out of the original common mythology of the Germanic peoples and constitute the primary source of knowledge about ancient German mythology. Because Scandinavian mythology was transmitted and altered by medieval Christian historians, the original pagan religious beliefs, attitudes, and practices cannot be determined with certainty. Clearly, however, Scandinavian mythology developed slowly, and the relative importance of different gods and heroes varied at different times and places. Thus, the cult of Odin, chief of the gods, may have spread from western Germany to Scandinavia not long before the myths were recorded; minor gods including Ull, the fertility god Njord , and Heimdall may represent older deities who lost strength and popularity as Odin became more important. Odin, a god of war, was also associated with learning, wisdom, poetry, and magic. (ed. note: Odin associated himself with anything that made him look good.)

http://www.shetlandnorse.co.uk
Shetland Norse Preserving Company Limited was formed in 1969 by Norwegian businessman Henry Krantz who had come to know the Shetland Isles and made many lasting friendships here as a member of the Norwegian Resistance movement during World War II. Shetland was, and still is, an ideal location for seafood processing. The obvious advantages that Shetland has to offer is its proximity to some of the best fishing grounds in the North Atlantic, clean, unpolluted waters and good transport links to the rest of Europe. Today the company is run by Henry's son Pal. Concentrating mainly on shellfish we have a growing reputation for quality crab and scallop products. With a (now) thriving inshore fishery in Shetland, shellfish are landed daily and processed the following day, ensuring a fast turnaround that guarantees quality and freshness. As the only crab processor in Shetland we operate the only cannery making Shetland Norse unique in the Shetland fish processing sector. At our company's modern EU approved premises in Mid Yell around 400 tonnes of crab and 200 tonnes of scallops are processed per year for markets throughout Europe.

38. Norse Sagas

http://www.timelessmyths.com/norse/sagas.html
The word "saga", probably mean "What is told". Norse sagas are similar to epic, but usually refer to works compiled during medieval Iceland. Saga is usually a narrative, either in poems or prose, dealing with historical, legendary and mythical subjects, written in Old Norse, during the 13th-14th century. The Icelandic sagas can be divided into three different categories: Kings' Sagas, Family Sagas, and Heroic or Legendary Sagas. I have chosen to only to deal with the Heroic Sagas, which is often called fornaldar saga or "saga of antiquity". Heroic Sagas concentrated mainly on the Cycle of the Ring or the Nibelungen Cycle , with such heroes as Sigurd/Siegfried. As for the modern usage of the word "saga", the term is much more confusing, and no longer confine to Iceland or Scandinavian countries. These days, sagas can mean any long novel in modern literature, usually written in the narrative form. I won't go any further about saga in the modern literature.
Norse Sagas contain stories of interest, particularly the

History:
Asatru is frequently regarded as one of the Neopagan family of religions. That family includes Wicca Celtic Druidism , and re-creations of Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and other ancient Pagan religions. However, many Asatruers prefer the term " Heathen " to " Neopagan " and look upon their tradition as " not just a branch on the Neopagan tree " but as a separate tree. Unlike Wicca, which has gradually evolved into many different traditions, the reconstruction of Asatru has been based on the surviving historical record. Its followers have maintained it as closely as possible to the original religion of the Norse people. Asatru or Ásatrú is an Icelandic word which is a translation of the Danish word "Asetro." Asetro was " first seen in 1885 in an article in the periodical "Fjallkonan". The next recorded instance was in "Heiðinn siður á Íslandi" (" Heathen traditions in Iceland. ")
