  • Is Mormonism considered a Christian religion?
I have seen and heard of instances of usage of the inverted pentagram and beehives in and about Mormon practice. What meanings do these symbols hold in the Mormon tradition?

Who are the "Latter Day Saints"?

  • Is Mormonism considered a Christian religion?

(Answer last edited on Apr 1, 04)
That really depends on what your definition of "Christian" is.
If you define "Christian" as one who "[professes] belief in Jesus as Christ or [follows] the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus" as the American Heritage Dictionary does, then yes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian denomination. Followers of the Church profess a belief in Jesus as the Christ and the leaders of the church for nearly 200 years have taught Christian principles (such as loving your neighbour, being redeemed from sin and putting faith in God).
If you define "Christian" as one who accepts tenets of traditional Christianity (such as the trinity, the infallibility and exclusivity of the Bible, etc), then no the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not a Christan denomination.

Free handcarts: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides handcarts free to anyone wishing to experience pulling them at Martin's Cove, which is about 50 miles southwest of Casper, and at Sixth Crossing, which is about 50 miles west of Martin's Cove. Details at http://www.handcart.com or (307) 328-2953. Short trek: Martin's Cove offers a trek that is about five miles round trip within the historic site. The trail leads to an area where pioneers took refuge from a fierce snowstorm in 1856. More than 100 of them died before the rest were rescued. Strenuous trek: The trek that begins at Sixth Crossing, which is next to Sweetwater Station on the Wyoming state highway map, extends for 28 miles one way and ends at a place called Rock Creek. The full trek takes two days. There is a campground with water and restroom facilities halfway along the trek for those making the two-day journey or those who want to skip the first half of the trek. Another campground is located at Rock Creek. Be prepared: Wyoming weather can change quickly. Trekkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and to bring a hat, sunscreen, a jacket, water and food.

Family Fellowship is a volunteer service organization, a diverse collection of Mormon families engaged in the cause of strengthening families with homosexual members. We share our witness that gay and lesbian Mormons can be great blessings in the lives of their families, and that families can be great blessings in the lives of their gay and lesbian members. We strive to become more understanding and appreciative of each other while staying out of society's debate over homosexuality. We seek to put behind us all attitudes which are anti-family, which threaten loving relationships, and which drive family members apart.

    INTRODUCTION
I would wager that there is not a single soul in this audience that is unfamiliar with Joseph Smith's First Vision. Probably most of you are also aware that there are several accounts of the event, differing in time and content. It is probable that fewer of you are familiar with the terms ``NDE'' or ``OBE'' or ``core experience.'' And probably very few have ever associated the near-death experience with the First Vision or other early Mormon visionary experiences. Some years ago, while reading a newspaper article about the near-death experience, I was suddenly struck with the similarity between the basic elements of such experiences and the basic elements of the First Vision. Since that time I have read essentially everything I could find on the subject, and today I propose to share some of my findings with you. The hypothesis presented in this paper is that modern research into near death experiences (NDE's) and out-of-body experiences (OBE's) can provide clues as to what really happened during Joseph Smith's First Vision, as well as some of the other early Mormon visionary experiences, such as sections 76, 87, and 137 of the Doctrine and Covenants. Prior to 1975, the death-revival experience was talked about and written about mostly in obscure paraphyscology journals, folklore gatherings, tabloid newspapers, or books which gained little exposure or recognition.

    Is the Book of Mormon
    really an ancient book?
hits on this Web page so far! Updated 3/17/97 Index:
  • If the Book of Mormon really were an ancient book, what would it matter?
  • How can you identify an actual ancient book?
  • The Book of Mormon and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
  • The Book of Mormon and John Barleycorn. ...
  • Free lecture offer / A personal testimony. If the Book of Mormon really were an ancient book, at would it matter? If the Book of Mormon can be demonstrated to know many, many things about the ancient world that no living person knew in the early eighteen hundreds; furthermore if it can be proven that the Book of Mormon repeatedly flies in the face of the best knowledge and belief of that period, only to be proven exactly right by subsequent discoveries; then a rational person must admit that the Book of Mormon probably is an ancient book. But the Book of Mormon was translated, according to Joseph Smith, "by the gift and power of God." So it can't be an ancient book unless God lives and Jesus is the Christ. In fact, the Book of Mormon says it was written anciently for the express purpose of convincing us of these truths. If the Book of Mormon is an ancient book, then it's translator was, in fact, a prophet of God. And if the Book of Mormon is an ancient scripture, recorded by prophets, translated by inspiration, and revealed by God to our day and time, then we would be wise heed it's message and follow the movement it inaugurated, for in so doing we follow Jesus the Christ.

    The Mormon Pioneer Trail
On February 4, 1846 (150 years ago), the first of the Mormons left Nauvoo, Illinois and headed west on what has become known as the Mormon Trail. After stopping for the winter of 1846-47 at Winter Quarters (now Omaha, Nebraska), they traveled on to what is now Salt Lake City, Utah, with the first company of pioneers arriving on July 24, 1847. An estimate 68,000 pioneers followed them during the next 22 years.
In commemoration of these pioneers and the trail they made and traveled, many sesquicentennial events are planned in 1996 and 1997. This page is designed to be a central source for information about these events and related activities, as well as other items such as a Mormon trail poem by Russell M. Ledger , titled For the Children
    The Faith of the Pioneers
It is good to look to the past to gain appreciation for the present and perspective for the future. It is good to look upon the virtues of those who have gone before, to gain strength for whatever lies ahead. It is good to reflect upon the work of those who labored so hard and gained so little in this world, but out of whose dreams and early plans, so well nurtured, has come a great harvest of which we are the beneficiaries. Their tremendous example can become a compelling motivation for us all, for each of us is a pioneer...and many of us pioneer daily.

The first permanent non-native settlers in the Las Vegas Valley were a group of Mormon missionaries who built an adobe fort along Las Vegas Creek in 1855. They successfully farmed the area by diverting water from the creek. Today, the park includes a remnant of the original adobe fort, which serves as a visitor center with interpretive displays. Future development will include the re-creation of many historic features and a full-scale visitor center. Historic interpretation is and will remain the focus of the park. Mormonism Polygamy a Revelation from God Chicago Bulls flamboyant basketball star Dennis Rodman received the largest fine in the history of the National Basketball Association last year for his bad boy comments about those in the Mormon religion. Rodman later apologized, stating, "If I knew it was like a religious-type deal, I would have never said it. I’m sorry about that." Phil Jackson the Bulls coach also tried to salvage Rodman’s remarks by stating, "To Dennis, a Mormon may just be a nickname for people from Utah. He may not even know it’s a religious cult or sect or whatever." I don’t know if that straightened it out or added to its offense, I wonder how much the coach was fined. To be fair it is Mormonism that needs to be fined. At the end of this article we will see the fine that God himself imposes. How would you feel as a wife if your husband could have many wives not only here on earth but in Paradise in heaven. If this sounds like a non-family value, you're right, it is. This actually goes against the family. Jesus himself quotes Gen.2:24 about a husband and wife becoming one flesh, In Mt.19:5. he never said anything about wives, its singular not plural. 1 Tim.3:2,12 1 Cor.7:2 all state about leaders and believers in the church having only one wife This is intentionally ignored and distorted by the Mormon church in the past and today. We find at a closer examination Mormon family values certainly are not Bible family values.

Contact Us The-Book-of-Mormon.com is a site dedicated to the study and rigorous examination of The Book of Mormon which, along with the Bible and other writings, is considered sacred scripture by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a product of revelation and prophecy, the Book of Mormon has been subjected to 170 years of scrutiny, criticism, and misrepresentations by anti-Mormons, many of whom have never read the book. Even so, over 100 million copies of The Book of Mormon have been published and distributed worldwide, it has been translated into 93 different languages, and the church has grown from six members in 1830 to 11 million members in 2001.
This site is maintained by Mike Segaloff, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a researcher who enjoys correlating science and his religion. Faith may be defined as believing in that which cannot be proven by science, but even so, as Brigham Young once said, "Our religion is simply the truth... It embraces all truth, wherever found, in all the works of God and man that are visible or invisible to mortal eye.
