82. The Dark Side Of Salt Lake City, The Other Side Of The Work And The Glory
Compares the mormons and polygamy to the taliban.
http://www.thedarksideofsaltlakecity.org
Webster’s: Polygamy 1. the state or practice of having two or more wives or husbands at the same time; plural marriage. Polyandry 1. a woman with more than one husband. The Mormons hide the dark side of Salt  Lake City from the world. This is the Mormon way. Polygamy is a practice that makes slaves of young girls who are married off to older men and there is no help for them from the LDS church.. Neither Joseph Smith nor Brigham Young cared about the long term effects this practice of polygamy would have on helpless girls and women. The Work and The Glory or Mormon Taliban?
Salt Lake City, that clean and modern community you saw before you on the television, or in person, when you watched the 2002 Olympic winter games, has another aspect you may not know of. The government of the state of Utah went all out to show this city in its best possible aspect. But there is another side to Salt Lake City, a very dark side indeed. Mere children are institutionally raped and enslaved, both mentally and physically, by their patriarchal masters. As is evidenced in the case of Tom Green, the institution is one of long-standing in this state; I, of course, mean polygamy. Elizabeth Smart is now the latest victim of this abomination. Though the outside world may have the impression that this is a quaint artifact of the early pioneer days, which springs up spontaneously here and there, nothing could be further from the daily reality its victims endure their entire lives. The reprehensible acts of pedophiles posing as "priests" in the Catholic Church pale when compared to what these children, then women, endure. Young men accosted by pedophile "priests" can eventually leave the situation. These girls become pregnant and are condemned to live in servitude. Their tormentor becomes the father of their children, they have no choice but to accept their fate and pass it along to their offspring!

84. Isaiah
The prophet's role in the Book of mormon and importance to LDS thought.
http://www.lightplanet.com/mormons/basic/bible/isaiah_eom.htm
Isaiah
by Richard D. Draper It is the emphasis on Isaiah's words in LDS scripture that necessitates a treatment of his writings under four titles: Authorship
Texts in the Book of Mormon

Interpretations in Modern Scripture

Commentaries on Isaiah
The article Authorship deals with the issue of the single authorship of the book of Isaiah in light of the existence of an Isaiah text possessed by Book of Mormon Peoples as early as 600 B.C. The article Texts in the Book of Mormon focuses on the question of what can be learned about the history of the text of Isaiah's book from the portions preserved in the Book of Mormon. Many of Isaiah's words that are preserved and commented on in LDS scripture have to do with the latter days, a matter that is taken up in the article Interpretations in Modern Scripture. The resulting LDS interest in Isaiah has led to a number of studies that are treated in the article Commentaries on Isaiah. Authorship by Victor L. Ludlow Traditionally, the book of Isaiah has been ascribed to a prophet living in the kingdom of Judah between 740 and 690 B.C. In Germany during the late 1700s, several scholars challenged this view, claiming that chapters 40-66 were written by one or more other individuals as late as 400 B.C. because of the specific references to events that occurred after Isaiah's death. This outlook now permeates many Bible commentaries and has led to the postulation of a second prophetic writer who is commonly called in scholarly literature "Deutero-Isaiah." Indeed, a wide variety of theories regarding the date and authorship of Isaiah now exist. However, LDS belief in revelation and the seership of prophets, along with the quotations from Isaiah in the Book of Mormon and its admonitions to study his writings, have reinforced Latter-day Saints in the traditional view concerning the date and authorship of Isaiah, in the following ways.

These are their stories and the stories of their rescuers, both past and present.
"Brethren and sisters you have a great inheritance. We have a tremendous responsibility to live up to it. God bless us to be faithful, to be true to that which meant so much to those who died here and their associates who died along this long and wearisome trail." - President Gordon B. Hinckley, Rock Creek Hollow Dedication, July 23, 1994.
" We are learning in the Church, that there is a craving among our people for pioneer history. I think maybe we have neglected that phase just a little bit in years past. Now there is that overwhelming desire to learn more of those who gave everything they had for the promulgation of the gospel and that dream of coming to Zion. No one can record here on earth all the sacrifices. There are too many." - President Thomas S. Monson, Riverton Stake Meeting, June 15, 1997

The Mormon Connection
The LDS Church and Genealogy
by Jan McClintock
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints maintains the largest genealogical data collection in the world, at the main Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The library collects information from members and other submitters through the Genealogical Society of Utah, the corporate business end of the Family History Department of the church.
The reason that the LDS church is so interested in genealogy is explained in church doctrine: family love and life can continue forever, even after death. To help make this happen, members want to be able to perform the temple ordinances, namely baptisms, endowments, and sealings to spouses and to parents, and also confirmations and ordinations. Endowments are like promises to the Lord to obey the covenants that are set by Him for life on Earth. Sealings are a binding together of families; husband and wife, and children to parents, in order to spend eternity together.
The church believes that these ordinances should be performed on behalf of ancestors who did not have the opportunity themselves. Ancestors are not forced to take the ordinances; they must accept the opportunity to do so.

Baptism is the first ceremony performed in behalf of the dead in the Temple. This is performed in the beautiful baptismal font mounted on the full sized statues of 12 oxen, located in the Temple basement. The Officiator and the patron are in the font dressed in heavy white jump-suits. There are two or more Witnesses observing the procedure. Often a closed circuit TV. is used to project the names of the deceased persons on a large TV. screen. Typically 200-300 baptisms are performed per hour, with LDS teenagers serving as proxies to introduce them into the Temple rituals and vicarious Ordinance work at an impressionable age. The baptismal pronouncement is recited in full for each baptism, and the patron is completely immersed by the Officiator as observed and approved by the two Witnesses. ANOINTING WITH HOLY OIL Previous

Each patron is then anointed with consecrated oil preparatory to "becoming a King and a Priest (or a Queen and Priestess) unto the Most High God, hereafter to rule and reign in the House of Israel forever." A Temple Worker pours some drops of oil on the top of the patron's head and moistens his fingers in oil and then touches each member of the patron's body as he pronounces a blessing upon it, reaching under the shield to anoint shoulders, back, breast, vitals and bowels, and loins. Two workers then place their hands in the patron's head and one of them pronounces a sealing of the anointing.

In July, the Tanners posted on their Web site the tenth chapter of the Church Handbook of Instructions, along with portions of two other chapters a total of 17 pages of the 160-page book. Brian M. Barnard, a lawyer for the Tanners, said in an interview that the couple posted the excerpts in an effort to help people who had inquired about Church activities. The Tanners received a copy of the book in electronic form from an anonymous source, he said.

Are we ready for a Mormon president?
July 21, 2005 I spent a week earlier this month vacationing with friends in California. Because we don't have a governor with a household name, they inquired who was running Massachusetts. ''Mitt Romney," I replied, adding: ''He's running for president." That came as news to them, and provoked this rejoinder: ''Really? But isn't he a Mormon? Can a Mormon be elected president?" ''It's a fascinating question," says Alan Wolfe, director of Boston College's Boisi Center for Religion and American Public Life. ''Catholics like to talk about anti-Catholicism and Jews like to complain about anti-Semitism. But a hundred years ago, Mormonism was the most hated religion in America. Since then the religion has changed dramatically. It's almost like a new business taking off it's a quintessential American success story." Wolfe thinks that if Romney's ambitions take him to the 2008 Republican primaries, he's likely to be slimed by political operatives of the Karl Rove mold. ''I think there will be rumors spread about how Mitt Romney has six wives, all of them 14 years of age, stashed in a house in Utah. These rumors will be denied, but they will stick in people's minds. There is some subterranean sentiment about curious practices in Mormonism." I agree with Wolfe, but I think it's not just Republicans who are sharpening their knives for a Romney run. Democrats gleefully smeared Romney when he ran for the Senate against Edward Kennedy in 1994. Capitalizing on Romney's leadership roles in the church he was president of 14 Boston-area congregations the media trotted out a succession of accusers, some anonymous, who asserted that Romney and the Mormons were antiabortion, anti-single mother, and anti-gay. Of course, those comments could be made about almost any mainstream faith in the United States.

Mormon crickets devour crops, turn roads "blood red"
A woman looks at a Mormon cricket on her house north of Reno, Nevada. Story Tools You drive down the street and they pop like bubble wrap. Amy Nisbet, Nevada resident SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Reuters) Mormon crickets, the plague of the western United States, are on the march again, ravaging farms and turning roads "blood red." Farmer Duane Anderson said the bugs are at times so thick that he could kill 10 crickets with a single step on his 3,200-acre spread in Dog Valley about 100 miles south of Salt Lake City. Officials in Utah, Idaho and Nevada say this year's infestation may be the worst in recent history. The grasshopper-like insects have become a traffic hazard, rendering some hilly roads impassable as they become caked with crushed bug carcasses. During one recent drive in his truck, Anderson said he came upon a road that was "blood red from smashed crickets." But for Anderson and other farmers, the bigger concern is economic. Mormon crickets and grasshoppers have for six years in a row wreaked havoc in Utah and exacerbated the drought of nearly the same duration.

Sergei Babarin had run-ins with neighbors and packed a pistol during a fight at a department store four years ago. 98. A Christian Response To Embraced By The Light
Douglas Groothuis presents a Biblical response to the mormon/new age teachings of Betty Eadie.
http://www.equip.org/free/DE305.htm
STATEMENT DE-305
DECEIVED BY THE LIGHT:
A Christian Response to "Embraced by the Light"
by Douglas Groothuis Summary
Betty Eadie’s surprise bestseller, Embraced by the Light, has triggered a tremendous interest in near-death experiences (NDEs). Eadie claims to have died and encountered Jesus Christ along with other spiritual wonders. While some Christians have appreciated her account, Eadie’s story dissolves under close scrutiny. Although she uses biblical language and dedicates her book to "my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," she denies biblical orthodoxy — such as the Trinity, the reality of hell, and salvation by faith alone — throughout the book. Her world view is an odd mixture of Mormon and New Age thought. Tragically, her false ideas contributed to the suicide of a young woman named Allison.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has always proclaimed exclusive deliverance from the fetters of sin and death. Jesus declared that He was "the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25) and backed up His words by giving "many convincing proofs that he was alive" after His crucifixion and resurrection (Acts 1:3). The Book of Hebrews affirms that Jesus’ death destroyed "him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil — and free[d] those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death" (Heb. 2:14-15). Nevertheless, this tremendous truth is often counterfeited. An increasing number of people proclaim that death is not the end, that it ought not be feared, that there is no hell, and that death is simply another stage in one’s spiritual development. These death-denying assertions are not based on Scripture, but on the testimonies of people who claim to have been clinically dead for a short time and to have experienced visions of a world beyond — a world of intense light and love.
