Basic Information: Volume: 1 to 5 messages a day Subject: Jokes and amusing stories about Mormons or Mormonism. Audience: Anyone familiar with Mormonism Digest: Available as a list called mormon-humor-digest Send jokes to: Mormon-Humor@Mailing-List.net Description
Mormon-Humor is an email list for telling jokes, and amusing stories and anecdotes about Mormons and Mormonism. Almost all aspects of Mormon culture, activities, events and people worldwide are fair game. However, racist, sexual and jokes that make malicious fun of others should not be sent to mormon-humor. Jokes, of course, must be about Mormonism in some way. Please make sure the connection to Mormonism is clear! Jokes and stories that are merely religious but not about Mormonism are off-topic! Mormon-Humor carrys jokes that ordinarily don't show up on other lists! Since no serious discussion is permitted, mormon-humor will not contain any disputes or contentious material. It will, however, contain a J. Golden story or two, so be prepared to take a lighthearted look at mormonism and put up with a swearword or two. Don't take offense easily and we'll all be better off.

Famous Mormon Vampires
Q. I've heard that there are a lot of famous Mormon vampires. Are there? Where does this idea come from? Answer:
Interesting question. The short of answer is that, no, there aren't a lot of famous Mormon vampires, although there are some famous Mormons who are sort of vampires and some famous vampires who are sort of Mormon. But to say that there are a "lot of Mormon vampires" would seem to be an exaggeration. Mainly this is because vampires aren't real . (Well, for the most part.) Let's examine where the myth of famous Mormon vampires might have come from. It is true that there are many famous Mormons . Most people know that among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) there are many famous inventors (such as the inventors of television, the hearing aid, the Browning rifle, the word processor, DOOM, etc.), famous scientists, famous politicians, athletes, businessmen, directors, singers, etc. There's even at least one famous Mormon train robber: Butch Cassidy (although he wasn't very devout). It's natural to assume that there are some famous Mormon vampires. But this simply isn't the case. In fact, there are very few (if any) famous vampires of

(Courtesy: Utah Division of Parks and Recreation) THE ROUTE WEST
To the sounds of snapping harness and creaking wagon wheels the pioneers in the vanguard of westward expansion moved out across the North American continent. Between 1840 and 1870, more than 500,000 emigrants went west along the Great Platte River Road from department points along the Missouri River. This corridor had been used for thousands of years by American Indians and in the mid-19th Century became the transportation route for successive waves of European trappers, missionaries, soldiers, teamsters, stage coach drivers, Pony Express riders, and overland emigrants bound to opportunity in the Oregon territory, the Great Basin, and the California gold fields. The trunk of the corridor generally followed the Platte and North Platte rivers for more than 600 miles, then paralleled the Sweetwater River before crossing the Continental Divide at South Pass. Beyond South Pass the route divided several times, each branch pioneered by emigrants seeking a better way to various destinations. The route's importance declined with the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869 but continued to receive limited use into the early 1900s.

THE MORMON PIONEER TRAIL
Few years in the Far West were more notable than 1846. That year saw a war start with Mexico, the Donner-Reed party embark on their infamous journey into a frozen world of indescribable horror, and the beginning of the best organized mass migration in American history. The participants of this migration, the Mormons, would establish thriving communities in what was considered by many to be a worthless desert.

    Mormon crickets chew through Idaho
Worst outbreak since World War II
Mormon Crickets threaten crops, but they're not crickets they're actually katydids. Story Tools BOISE, Idaho (AP) Mormon crickets are chewing their way through southwestern Idaho at an alarming rate, devouring crops and creating road hazards in what locals say is the worst outbreak since World War II. The Boise County Commission has already declared a disaster and the state has posted warning signs on roads for the pests. Crickets smashed by cars on the road surface create a mush slicker than black ice. "Their guts and stuff, they just get mashed," said Mike Cooper, a state Department of Agriculture official who persuaded the state last week to authorize $250,000 in cricket control measures. The insects got their name after invading the fields of Mormon settlers in Utah in 1848. They're not actually crickets rather a species of shieldbacked katydid that belong to a grasshopper family. Their voracious appetites take in anything. At a density of just one insect per square yard, they can consume 38 pounds of forage per acre as they pass through an area. They will even eat each other.

Sources of the Book of Mormon The Book of Mormon is one of the four standard works of the LDS church. According to official Mormon history, the book was translated, with Divine help, from a set of golden plates found by Joseph Smith, a New York farmboy who lived in the early part of the nineteenth century. The Book deals with the ancient history of the American continent, and proposes that the Native Americans are descendants of a small band of Jews, who left Palestine at about the same time that the Babylonians conquered Judah. While Mormon doctrine holds that the Book is a real translation of an unknown language, a close examination of the text itself reveals otherwise. It is evident that Joseph Smith was inspired by a number of contemporary sources, which, together with his own fertile imagination, resulted in the Book of Mormon. It will become very obvious that Mormonism does not agree with the Bible. In fact, Mormonism has simply used the same words found in Christianity and redefined them. But with a proper understanding of what Mormonism really teaches, you will be able to see past those definitions into the real differences between Christianity and Mormonism.

SALT LAKE CITY (CNN) A gunman with a history of schizophrenia opened fire at the Mormon Church's Family History Library on Thursday, killing two people and wounding five before police fatally shot him, authorities said. Salt Lake City Mayor Deedee Corradini said the gunman, 70-year-old Sergei Babarrin, suffered from the mental illness and had not been taking his medication. The other two who died were a security guard and a female library patron. A police officer was among the wounded, she said. Authorities determined that Babarrin, who had a daily ritual of taking a morning walk around downtown, acted alone. Police knew of no motive for the shootings. Witnesses said the gunman, wearing military fatigues, walked into the first-floor lobby of the library and began firing randomly with a small-caliber handgun.
