FUNDAMENTALIST OR POLYGAMY-PRACTICING
MORMON GROUPS
In 1822 the United States government passed the Edmunds Law outlawing polygamy. Eight years later the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints withdrew its support of polygamy and threatened excommunication to any who practiced it. In spite of the Church's stance, some Mormons continued in the practice. Many polygamists moved to Mexico because of the relative liberality of Mexican law. Polygamy experienced a revival in the 1930s following the publication of the claims of Lorin C. Woolley. Woolley claimed that on the evening of September 27, 1886, John Taylor, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, while staying at the Woolley home in Centerville, Utah, received a spirit visitation from Joseph Smith, Jr., the Church's founder. Smith's revelation concerned the continuance of plural marriage, and Taylor extracted a promise from all present that they would defend, sustain, and uphold the principle. The group covenanted together that no year would pass without children being born according to "the principle." Later, according to Woolley, Taylor conferred the priesthood on five men, including Woolley and his father. At the time of the publication of the claim, all the men involved in the story except Lorin Woolley were dead. Only when he was the only one left, did Woolley assert any prerogatives based on Taylor's actions. He gathered followers and appointed a seven-member council to which he passed authority to govern the Church. Woolley died in 1934 and was succeeded by J. Leslie Broadbent. Broadbent lived only a short time before he was succeeded by John Y. Barlow.

Where: Court room of Judge Valdez, Mathison Court House Once again a felon, allowed to live the illegal lifestyle of polygamy, is in court for the maltreatment of children. This particular criminal has been in Utah courts before, pleading no contest to child abuse and serving only 28 weeks in county jail. The state of Utah continues to harbor these criminals who exploit, harm and violate the human and civil rights of the most vulnerable. Tax payers continue to fund their lifestyle while the court system is sapped again and again when they get caught doing what is known to occur. Like cases in the past, these children are only a few of the numerous children abused by this man and many others like him every day in Utah. We are asking the Attorney General's office, the court and other gate keepers of this state, "Will John Daniel Kingston get yet another slap on the hand for child abuse?" "When will the abuse of children, born by accident into polygamy, end?"

The Mormon Name Generator
They're a funny old bunch, those latter day saints. Rather than picking names from their heritage, or the Bible, the Utah Mormons tend to make them up. Sometimes they'll combine the parents' names into one (BenDonna, for example). Other times it's impossible to quite understand what their parents were thinking; names like Zestpool and Zon'tl aren't uncommon. We can understand why you might be jealous of names like these. After all, they are far more interesting and exciting than your own. Luckily, help is at hand with the Mormon Name Generator; simply indicate your first name, last name and your gender preference below, and we'll Mormonise your moniker. Male: Female: First name: Last name: Turd Ferguson. It's a funny name.

by Dr. Sidney B. Sperry
(Bookcraft, Salt Lake City, UT:1967): 73-97 CHAPTER XI The "Isaiah Problem" in the
Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon quotes twenty-one complete chapters of Isaiah and parts of others. In the light of modern Biblical criticism these quotations raise problems that have a serious bearing on the integrity of the Nephite record as a whole. It is believed, therefore, that a presentation of the literary problem of Isaiah and its bearing on the Book of Mormon will be of general interest. As Professor A. B. Davidson pointed out many years ago, for nearly twenty-five centuries no one dreamed of doubting that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, who lived in the eighth century B. C., was the author of the whole book that goes under his name. That is to say, the literary unity of Isaiah was not doubted until comparatively recent times. There is no evidence that the ancients who lived a few hundred years after Isaiah's time knew of any problem in connection with the great prophet's writings. The Greek translator of Isaiah whose work is part of the Greek Bible (Septuagint) probably made this translation about 200 B.C., but betrays no sign that the sixty-six chapters of the book are not all Isaiah's work. Nor do the copyists of the texts of Isaiah among the recently found Dead Sea Scrolls seem to know any author of them other than Isaiah, son of Amoz.

40. AUTOMATIC WRITING AND THE BOOK OF MORMON
Discussion of how the book of mormon was possibly written. Also gives a selection of references for further reading.
http://www.frontiernet.net/~bcmmin/auto.htm
AUTOMATIC WRITING AND THE BOOK OF MORMON In 1997 I purchased a book, Mormon Controversies: A Balanced Approach , by Joseph T. Carrieres, 1988. This book is well written and exposes the usual problems with Mormonism. Its one flaw is that the author considered Joseph Smith to have been basically honest. Its one highlight for me was the discussion (page 146f) of the possibility that the Book of Mormon was written by automatic writing (also called spirit writing).
This idea that the Book of Mormon is the result of automatic writing was proposed also by Scott C. Dunn, in his article, "Spirit Writing, Another Look at the Book of Mormon," Sunstone , June 1985, Vol.10, No. 6, pages 17-26. This article is well written. It describes several complex books that were written using automatic writing, identifies several well known authors that used it and compared this information to what is known about the way the Book of Mormon was authored. Scott's conclusion is that the Book of Mormon could well have been authored by automatic writing.
If you want to do your own reasearch on this subject, after you first read Scott C. Dunn's article, I suggest the following in the order given.
