Mormon Polygamy
Mormon Polygamy: A History Perhaps the best single work on the subject to date. Richard Van Wagoner treats the touchy subject in a fair manner, covering all periods from the 1830s to the late 20th century.
Solemn Covenant: The Mormon Polygamous Passage
B. Carmon Hardy goes into more depth for the Utah period of Mormon polygamy (mostly 1880 to 1910). For those interested in post-manifesto, sanctioned polygamy, this is the best source.
LDS Church Authority and New Plural Marriages, 1890 - 1904 by D. Michael Quinn
A lengthy piece, originally published in Dialogue , which goes into great detail on the facts and circumstances surrounding the manifesto. The pre- and post-manifesto deception is dealt with as well as the key individuals involved including Wilford Woodruff Lorenzo Snow George Q. Cannon , and Joseph F. Smith
In Sacred Loneliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith
The ultimate book in finding out about polygamy in Joseph Smith's era. The book is made up of numerous biographies of Joseph's 30+ wives.
Mormon Enigma: Emma Hale Smith
This stimulating biography on Joseph Smith's first wife also covers Joseph Smith era polygamy. Emma was vehemently opposed to the practice, but that didn't stop Joseph.

General Questions For M embers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ... HOME Today there are thousands of individuals living in and around the state of Utah who refer to themselves as "Mormon Fundamentalists." The purpose of this website is to examine their history, teachings and practices. What is a "Fundamentalist?" In a general way, the term "fundamentalists" usually refers to individuals who believe that their mother church has strayed from fundamental teachings, doctrines and practices. "Fundamentalist" factions can be found attached to all major religions. There are Catholic fundamentalists, Jewish fundamentalists, Islamic fundamentalists, etc. They partake of their own specific interpretations of dogma and often attempt to force the mainstream church to comply with their specific notions. What is a "Mormon Fundamentalist"? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not exempt from the "fundamentalist" phenomenon. There are many individuals and groups which loosely refer to themselves as "Mormon Fundamentalists." They have identified a dozen or so complaints against the Church which they repeat over and over in their literature. Yet, it appears that the name "Mormon Fundamentalist" is misapplied. In the past the title "Mormon" has been reserved for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today, Church leaders discourage its use. Regardless, "Mormon Fundamentalists" are not members of this Church. They disagree with the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints concerning one issue or another. Consequently, they leave the Church or are excommunicated and cannot be considered to be truly "Mormons."

BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY SEARCH LOG IN Feedback Help BYU.EDU ... FARMS Question of the Week
The Book of Mormon purports to be a volume of scripture in addition to the Bible; however, the Bible says that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). If all the scripture we need is already given, we have no need for additional scripture such as the Book of Mormon.

The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers are moving into the 21st century by having their own web page and my favorite part is the History Department section wherein you can search on the web page and order a pioneer's biography written by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Mormon pioneers. The web page says there are over 100,000 biographies, however I do not know if all of these have been indexed and put online as of yet. Note: You must submit and receive your biography via the regular mail. No email or phone requests will be accepted.
The purpose of this web site is to provide tips for those tracing their Mormon Pioneer ancestry from Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, and South Africa to Salt Lake City, Utah. Brief History of the U.S. Mormon Battalion
The need to assist the U. S. Army in the Mexican war was urgent [1846]. President James K. Polk instructed the Secretary of War, William L. March to authorize Col. (later General) Stephen W. Kearney, Commander of the Army of the West, to enlist a battalion of 500 Mormons for this purpose. Captain James Allen was ordered to proceed to the Mormon Camps in Iowa to recruit five companies of 75 to 100 men each.

It does not represent my personal views on the Bible. When defending what one believes, he or she quotes the source of their belief, such as the Bible or Book of Mormon. So the written word outweighs opinion. What we base our belief on is the written word. Regardless of what we say we believe, it has to be in harmony with the written word. And that is all this web site does: It compares what is written in the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants with the Bible. I do not add to what is said; I only quote it.)
