Overview:
Messianic Judaism is a religious movement, composed of faith groups that are mainly attended by ethnic/cultural Jews. They differ from Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews over their beliefs about the Messiah. Most Jews believe that the Messiah has yet to come; Messianic Jews believe that Yeshua of Nazareth was the expected Messiah. (Yeshua is called Jesus Christ by Christians.)

Language can both help and trick us in cross-cultural communication. The following material is written in Messianic Jewish terminology and style. It shows us the challenges we "Christians" [ more ] face in cross-cultural communication with Jews. This material is based on Return of the Remnant: The Rebirth of Messianic Judaism Messianic terminology is used to express the biblical faith in the Messiah [ more ] because such terminology was how the New Covenant [ more ] faith was expressed in its earliest stages. Messianic believers like talking about their faith in the Messiah in a manner consistent with Jewish heritage and culture. Belief in the Messiah is consistent with being Jewish. He is the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel. Using Messianic terminology imparts faith in Messiah to children, friends and family in a manner consistent with Jewish heritage. Messianic terms communicate biblical truth without the negative baggage of historical anti-Semitism.

    Beliefs of Messianic Judaism
Most believers would probably accept the definition of a Messianic Jew as " a person who was born Jewish or converted to Judaism, who is a 'genuine believer' in Yeshua [Jesus], and who acknowledges his Jewishness ." " A tenet of Messianic Judaism asserts that when a Jew accepts a Jewish Messiah, born in a Jewish land, who was foretold by Jewish prophets in the Jewish Scriptures, such a Jew does not become a Gentile. In fact, he becomes a completed Jew a Jew who believes Jesus is the Messiah. " Those of the "Evangelic" wing of Messianic Judaism hold theological beliefs which are essentially identical to those of Evangelical Christianity, including: G-d as a Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; the virgin birth sinless life resurrection ; ascension and future second coming salvation inerrancy of the Bible, etc. They believe that their religious practices and beliefs are very similar to that experienced by a 1 st century CE Jewish Christian movement (also known as The Way or the Nazarenes ). This was one of about two dozen religious movements which were active at the time, including the Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, followers of John the Baptist, Essenes, Gnostics, Herodians, Pauline Christians, etc. The Jewish Christians was composed of Jewish reformers; their group was founded by Jesus' disciples, lead by James the brother of Jesus, and largely concentrated in Jerusalem. Historians and theologians differ in their

The Cross represents Life. The Hebrew word for life is Chai. Messianic Jews believe in Yeshua (Messiah). Christians have been grafted into the family of G-d and they can now inherit all the promises of the Father. This new Covenant was done through Jesus and the Cross. http://www.messianic.com/articles/basics.htm
    BASICS OF MESSIANIC JUDAISM
  • YESHUA IS MESSIAH AND L-RD
Messianic Judaism started with Yeshua (Jesus of Nazareth) as His Jewish followers accepted the evidence that He was the promised Messiah (Anointed One) of Israel, and as the scriptures foretold, He also was the God of Israel in the flesh, YHVH, the L-RD, who died for sins according to Isaiah 53, then rose again according to the Psalms and the Prophets. The believers in Yeshua were called Notzrim (Nazarenes), which Christians are called in modern Hebrew today. However, there is that faction today who call themselves Notzrim and say they believe in Yeshua, but they do not accept Him as appearing as God Himself in the flesh. Most of Messianic Judaism does not accept them as true believers because of their denial.
BIBLICAL MESSIANIC JUDAISM IS VALID CONTEMPORARY JUDAISM
Since the first Jewish followers of Yeshua never left the faith of the God of Israel, YHVH, but rather came into a more personal covenant with Him through trust in Messiah Yeshua, their faith was and is the only complete Biblical Judaism and thus a superior Judaism. This is because Messiah Yeshua is the promised deliverer from sin and completed the understanding of the Torah (His ancient Word) that was lacking. However, this does not mean that modern Rabbinical Judaism does not have truth within it.

    What is Messianic Judaism?
Messianic Jews?....It’s a term that is being heard more and more these days. Succinctly defined, we are Jews who believe that Yeshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus) of Nazareth is the promised Messiah of the Jewish Scriptures. Because we believe Yeshua is the Jewish Messiah, we also believe in maintaining a Jewish lifestyle of faith. Hence, we celebrate all of the biblical holidays (i.e. Passover, Succot, etc.) as well as many of the customs which are consistent with the Scriptures. For much of history it has been assumed that Jewishness and Yeshua are mutually exclusive. Of course, it’s fine for any non-Jew to believe in Him-but a Jew? However, when one stops to study the actual history of this movement, it becomes clear that this assumption was not always the case. After all, this Messianic movement did not originate in Rome or Athens, but started in the land of Israel in the midst of the Jewish people. Most scholars agree that its leader lived a lifestyle consistent with first century Judaism. He worshipped on the "Shabbat" (Luke 4:16 ff.), celebrated all the Jewish holidays such as "Passover" and "Chanukah" (Matthew 26:17 ff.; John 10:22 ff.) and even wore the traditional; "tzitzit" (Matthew 9:20). Likewise, His Name "Yeshua" testifies to His Jewish identity, since it is Hebrew for "Salvation."
