Library Home Latter-day Saints and Justice for Workers "Latter-day Saints and Justice for Workers" is distributed by the National Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice. James Tobler and John-Charles Duffy, of MESJ, helped create this booklet. LDS scripture attests to the importance God places on caring for the poor, thereby supporting families and communities. Because of the practical nature of their faith, Latter-day Saints have a history of organizing to seek solutions to temporal needs. God Cares for the Poor
Latter-day Saints believe that strong families are vital for the well-being of individuals and of society. "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" teaches that "the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children." Economically insecure families are more likely to have the problems that affect how well a family functionsdivorce, addiction, verbal and physical abuse, and so on. LDS scripture contains strongly worded warnings to those who do not take care of the poor and needy . In the scriptures, caring for the poor is not just a question of charity; it is a question of justice. As King Benjamin explains in the Book of Mormon, nothing we have is really ours. It is given to us as a sacred trusta stewardshipto be used for the benefit of our fellow beings.

This page is my attempt to explain who we are and what the Church is. The views and opinions expressed here are those of Jeff Lindsay. Though I consider myself an active and faithful member of the Church and have tried to honestly portray its nature and teachings, this page has not been formally reviewed or approved by officials the Church. A Response to latterday saints Who Say, We Never Criticize Christian Churches After the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints was organized,
http://www.mrm.org/multimedia/text/attack.html
A Response to Latter-day Saints Who Say, "We Never Criticize Christian Churches"
Compiled by Bill McKeever A common response to Christians who question the teachings of Mormonism is to accuse them of being contentious and unloving. Often Mormons will question the "Christianity" of the person and proudly claim that members of the LDS Church never criticize the beliefs of others and therefore conclude that no one else should either. As the following quotes demonstrate, Mormons leaders have long criticized Christians, and oftentimes very harshly. Joseph Smith (Mormonism's founder) — Joseph Smith claimed that he had seen both God the Father and Jesus Christ and asked these personages which church he should join. He claimed he was told to join none of them, "for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight" (Joseph Smith History 1:19). When asked "Will all be damned but Mormons?" Smith replied, "Yes, and a great portion of them unless they repent and work righteousness" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 119). "Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth" (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:10).

Families face the increasing demands of hectic work and family schedules leaving them little time to seek inspiration or for personal study. LDS Media, a company based in Orem, is trying to help members of the LDS Church take advantage of the little time they do have to read and study church literature or listen to uplifting spiritual messages. “We continue to see busy church leaders and members using PDAs and other electronic devices to have quick access to scriptures and reference materials,” says Jim Ericson, VP of Marketing at LDS Media. He explains that members are increasingly using “gadgets” like cell phones and MP3 players as they go about their daily routines. Many are multi-tasking to get “spiritually fed” by listening to audio books or inspiring music while taking care of more mundane daily tasks like commuting or exercising.

Mormons
Also called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.) This religious body had its origin during the early part of the nineteenth century. Joseph Smith, the founder and first president of the sect , was the son of a Vermont farmer, and was born in Sharon township, Windsor County, in that state, on 23 December, 1805. In the spring of 1820, while living with his parents at Manchester, Ontario (now Wayne) County, New York , he became deeply concerned upon the subject of his salvation , a condition partly induced by a religious revival which proselytized a few of his relatives to the Presbyterian Faith . Joseph himself was inclined toward Methodism ; to satisfy his mind as to which one of the existing sects he should join, he sought Divine guidance, and claimed to have received in answer to prayer a visitation from two glorious beings, who told him not to connect himself to any of these Churches, but to bide the coming of Church of Christ, which was about to be re-established. According to his own statement, there appeared to him on the night of 21 September, 1823, a heavenly messenger, who gave his name as Moroni, and revealed the existence of an ancient record containing the fullness of the Gospel of Christ as taught by the
