Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers AGENCY: Foreign Agricultural Service, USDA.
ACTION: Notice. The Administrator, Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), denied a petition for trade adjustment assistance (TAA) for seed potatoes that was filed on January 13, 2005, by the Spokane Hutterian Brethren, Reardan, Washington. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Upon investigation, the Administrator determined that imports for the February-May 2004 marketing year declined by 20 percent from the same period in 2003. Since imports declined during the marketing year, the petition did not meet the increasing imports requirement, a condition required for certifying a petition for TAA. The Third Annual Partnering for our Future! Awards were presented to the Helen Schuler Coulee Centre to recognize their dedication to the river valley through their educational programs and to Sorgaard Ranches to honour their work and commitment to ensure their livestock have a minimal impact on the Little Bow River.
The Helen Schuler Coulee Centre has been educating the community about the river valley environment for more than 21 years. In 2002 an exhibit was created to focus solely on the Oldman River. Visitors learned about floods, river species, watersheds, historic uses and water quality concerns. To enhance the Nature Centre display, a special interpretive show called "The Oldman River" was also created. This western style play was performed in the summer in Galt Gardens and explored the complicated interconnectedness of the Oldman River. The Nature Centre staff and volunteers are committed to sharing their passion for nature and the belief that: Appreciation leads to Understanding which leads to Protection
In the early spring of 2001, Sorgaard Ranches contacted the County of Lethbridge to discuss concerns regarding the impact their buffalo and cattle had on the riparian zone of the Lower Little Bow River. Even before Sorgaard Ranching sought outside help, they were developing ideas to lessen their livestock's impact on the riparian area.

member of Hutterian Brethren, Anabaptist sect that found refuge from persecution in Moravia and the Tirol; it stressed community of goods on the model of the primitive church in Jerusalem. The community, which acquired the name of its charismatic leader, Jakob Hutter (tortured and burned as a heretic in 1536), still survives, mostly in the western sections of the United States and Canada with a population of about 20,000. In colonies of 60 to 150 persons, they operate collective farms ( Bruderhof ) and, not unlike the Old Order Amish, remain aloof from outside society, taking no part in politics. Children are educated inside the colony until age 14 or until a minimum age decreed by state or province.

The Hutterite Way of Life General Description The Hutterites are a unique group in that they have maintained their social structure for over four centuries. This
structure is characterized by economy of human effort, communal sharing of wealth and a high degree of security for the
individual. Both spiritual and material needs are satisfied. By living on large acreages of communally owned land, the Hutterites maintain a degree of geographic isolation. Their
German dialect and distinctive dress assure social isolation. To Hutterites, honoring God requires communal living, devout
pacifism, proper observance of religious practices and refraining from excessive outside influence through television, radio
and computers. The Hutterites are the largest family-type communal group in the Western world. They are especial noted for large-scale
farming, larger families, and effective training of the young. All Hutterites inhabit the United States and Canada; there are
none left in the European areas of their origin. History The Hutterites originated during the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century and are one of three surviving
Anabaptist groups. The other two are the Mennonites and the Old Order Amish. The Hutterite branch of the Anabaptists

Four persons who have done extensive research and writing on Hutterites in the 20th century are John Horsch (The Hutterian Brethren, 1931), Robert Friedmann, (Die Schriften der Huterischen Taeufergemeinschaften, 1965), John A. Hostetler (Hutterite Society, 1974, 1997), and Leonard Gross (The Golden Years of the Hutterites, 1980). It is through their efforts, among others, that a substantial collection of writings by and about Hutterian Brethren and Society of Brothers has been collected. The list of sources below is taken from the cards in the Archives Card Catalog found under "Hutterian Brethren", "Hutterites" and "Society of Brothers". There are detailed inventory listings for many of the collections listed. These inventories are available upon request. The sources are archival in nature, and include original codices, correspondence, diaries, materials, photocopies, photographs, tape recordings, microfilm, films, video tapes, artifacts and unpublished papers. Individual unpublished papers have not been listed.

They were popularly known as Dunkards, Dunkers, or Tunkers, from the German for “to dip,” referring to their method of baptizing. The Brethren evolved from the Pietist movement in Germany. The first congregation was organized there in 1708 by Alexander Mack. Persecution drove them to America where, under Peter Becker, they settled (1719) in Germantown, Pa. From that and other settlements in Pennsylvania they spread westward and into Canada. The Brethren oppose war and advocate temperance, the simple life, plain dress, and “obedience to Christ rather than obedience to creeds and cults.” The original group, at present the largest in the United States, is the Church of the Brethren (Conservative Dunkers); the local churches are united by an annual conference that elects a general board to supervise the national church program. From the Church of the Brethren there have been separations into the Seventh-Day Baptists, German Baptists (1728; see Beissel, Johann Conrad

This consultation in Geneva ("Prague IV") was different. It was organized by the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in cooperation with the Lutheran World Federation and the Mennonite World Conference. In addition to the churches mentioned above, participants related to the Lutheran and Reformed tradition were invited. Representatives of the Methodist, Baptist and Roman Catholic churches were also present. This broadened framework was conducive to the discussion and to the outcome of the meeting. The leading question was whether we can arrive at a more comprehensive and inclusive understanding of the Reformation. In what way can the new insights renew our churches and enrich the ecumenical discussion today? This is a summary of the papers presented: Carter Lindberg asserted that Luther's reform movement is theologically discontinuous from the continuum of medieval renewal movements that lead into and continue in the "Radical Reformation". Luther's reformation differed in kind rather than in degree from those reform movements which preceded him. Carter Lindberg rested this claim for distinguishing Luther's endeavours on his doctrine of justification by grace through faith alone. Does not this emphasis on doctrine over life lead to quietism? This doctrine led to renewed community worship and a new social ethic exemplified in social welfare legislation. Responses to this paper were given by Walter Sawatsky (Mennonite) and Renate Ellwanger (Hutterian Brethren).

The first three consultations led to a sense of unity of heritage and compatibility of witness among these church fellowships, enabling them to contribute together to ecumenical conversations on pressing theological and contemporary issues. Among the many foci of discussion were shared heritage and eschatological grounding as well as Christian faith and economics. The theme of "Prague IV" in Geneva in 1994 was the meaning and implications of the Sermon on the Mount (a theme which emerged in the first three consultations), but a shift in approach was marked by the purposive broadening of the discussions to include representatives of the Magisterial Reformation - the Lutheran and Reformed communions - alongside those from the First and Radical Reformations. Also present were representatives of the Baptist, Methodist and Roman Catholic traditions.
