Hi, this is 129.130.19.7. I've never edited anything on Wikipedia before so please be patient with me... I'm doing my best to follow the rules. Normally, I wouldn't edit at all, but when I saw that all of the information on Hellenismos as a religion had been deleted, I had to do something. A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into writing up that information and I hardly think it's fair for someone to delete it without even explaining why. I don't know what the motivation was, but it smacks of deleting material on religions one happens to disagree with. If the idea was that it's not necessary for this information to be on Wikipedia, I should point out that how I discovered this drastic revision was through having several people ask me why there wasn't any information about Hellenismos as a religion on Wikipedia. Obviously, people are looking for this info. Please just leave it be.

Doing it Like the Greeks: Beginning a Hellenic Pagan Practice article by Bacche For many of us, Greek paganism was the first paganism we encountered, in books of myths at school. Nowadays, the Craft is nearly mainstream, but when I was a young girl, the idea that I could be a witch myself was outlandish, even a bit frightening. But Greek mythology had insinuated itself artfully into the culture. It was a little geeky to like the Greek myths, but not frightening. I count myself lucky in junior high school to have read a lyrically written book of Greek mythology and felt one of the beginnings of my spiritual call. I remember a tale about Artemis that ended by showing how the print of a horse hoof on the beach echoed the crescent moon. I can still see the half-dark, cool, late-spring classroom where I read that. I feel that resonance still. I don't consider myself a Hellenic reconstructionist, though my spirituality does incorporate aspects of Hellenismos; I honor several ancient Greek deities and have written rituals in Hellenic form. (The words "Hellene" and "Hellenic" come from the Greek word for Greece, Hellas; "Hellenismos" is another name for Hellenic spiritual practice.) But I've come to know more about Hellenic practice through my interaction with an online thiasos, or ritual group, dedicated to the Greek god Dionysos. The thiasos's participants range from people who identify only as Hellenic reconstructionists to those who do both reconstructionist and other ritual, like myself. Including lurkers, the list hosts more than 60 members, some of them from Britain and beyond.

Aus einem eMail, das ich gestern gekriegt hab: The European Union has a strong interest in stopping discrimination of any kind within the Union. (This includes such matters as colour, ethnicity (race), gender, age, sexual preference, and of course RELIGION.) This was in part one of our arguments in Greece and yet one of our hopes: "How can Greece an EEC member behave in this way?" Well, the European Union has been in Greece recently and on the threat of substantial fines requied Greece to pass laws on discrimination - including discrimination in the workplace etc which is a big thing for our followers and the many other groups of people who have suffered from discimination of various kinds. These laws have been under discussion in the last few months and EUREKA they have come into force more or less with the ink drying on the papers as I write to you. Now to ensure that grievances under the new laws are dealt with appropriately, the Greek Govt has been required to set up a national committee (answererable to the EU committee) to deal with policy and problems with, and that arise, from the new laws. This committee is made up of various NGO's and other groups within Greece who have an interest in these laws, but is also made up of Govt ministers and is an official working (and reporting) group. Setting up an Altar Before you can do any of the rituals posted on this site, you'll need a place to do them. I have decided to write this article to give some ideas of how one can set an altar to the Greek gods. I found that the best surface to use was to buy a small pillar from a craft store and place a board on top to make the top surface a little larger (so as to fit everything on it comfortably). Although, any table of at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet high will work very well, as it is considered inappropriate to kneel before the Gods. As far as what to put on the top, it is safe to say that all of the materials you would need at the bare minimum, you could purchase at a local Wal-Mart, Target or other department store. You can of course add to the altar as often as you like, to make it personal.
