Beloved Pan, and all ye other gods who haunt this place, make me beautiful within, and grant that what-ever happens outside of me will help my soul to grow. May I always be aware that true wealth lies in wisdom, and may my "gold" be so abundant that only a wise man can lift and carry it away. For me that is prayer enough.

Site hosted by Why TC Uses Dreamhost Site by Randall Home Reconstructionism Search Greek/Hellenic Reconstructionist Paganism Hellenic (Greek) Reconstructionism is a modern Pagan religious movement that bases its worship and cultic practices on the traditional, polytheistic religion of Ancient Greece. Although Hellenic Reconstructionism accepts personal gnosis as a part of its spirituality, the predominant source of information comes from the works of Homer, Hesiod and other ancient writers. Ritual practices are taken from these authors and from modern academic research on this religion. Where modernization of some ritual elements is needed and understood, those elements are not presented as "ancient" fact. Combining unrelated cultural beliefs (as opposed to historical syncretism) with those of the Ancient Greeks is unacceptable.

What is Hellenismos? Hellenismos is one of the names for the religion that I practice. Other terms are Hellenism, Hellenic or Greek Reconstructionism, Olympianism, Dodecatheism, Greek Paganism, Greco-Roman Paganism, Classical Paganism, or simply Paganism. I prefer Hellenismos because it is the most accurate description, as it encompasses the whole complex of Greek ethnicity, language, culture, religion, and way of life. For the ancients, there was no word which corresponded completely to our modern concept of religion. The closest word is eusebia which means "pious interaction with the Gods." Obviously, we mean a great deal more than that when we speak of religion. When we ask someone "What religion do you practice?" we have an idea that their "religion" will refer to a specific kind of lifestyle, to a normative creed that codifies one's basic beliefs about God(s), man, ethical existence, and the afterlife, and that they will only belong to one religion at one time. Within this system there was also room to worship many Gods. In fact, impiety came from

Hellenismos is the traditional, polytheistic religion of ancient Greece, reconstructed in and adapted to the modern world. This religion is also referred to as Hellenic Polytheism, Hellenic Reconstructionist Paganism, or simply Hellenism. Those who practice it are variously known as Hellenic polytheists, Hellenic pagans, Hellenic Reconstructionists, Hellenists, or Hellenes. We worship the divinities of ancient Greece, especially the Olympians: Zeus, Hera, Athena, Hephaistos, Apollo, Artemis, Demeter, Dionysos, Hermes, Ares, Poseidon, and Aphrodite, along with Hades and Hestia. We also honor the chthonic (underworld) deities, nature divinities, and heroes. Most of us view the gods as distinct divine persons, each with his or her own interests, areas of influence, and agenda for the world and for us, a theological position often referred to as

Hellenismos is the practice of ancient Greek religion based upon academic research into its festivals, liturgical structure, prayers, offerings, every day life, the mythology, and last but not least, the Greek gods. It is a religion which is often reconstructionist in its methology. Reconstructionism is a practice in which academic information is relied upon as the foundation of the practice, though its members often vary on how much they rely upon said sources versus modern information. I think that the best definition of Hellenismos that I've found so far is up at sponde.com and on the FAQs on Hellenismos , and so I have no wish to requote them here.
Reconstructionist religions are based upon the idea that a religion can be revived if enough of its practices were brought back into the modern day world. This can be looked upon from various angles. Certainly we want our practices to be as true to the ancient world as possible, but quite a bit has changed. As our religion grows in numbers and strength, we will be making choices along the way of what practices need to be tweaked slightly in order to accommodate the modern day world. These choices are currently being reflected in various cults, thiasoi, and organizations

    Hellenismos
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Hellenismos Hellēnism³s ), corresponding to the English word Hellenism , meant (in ancient Greek) the imitation of the Greeks. The term's use in religion stems from a systemization of Greek Religion done by the Roman Emperor Julian . Today, this word is used in modern Greek to refer to the totality of the Greek people and culture. Outside Greece, it is used by some to refer to the traditional, polytheistic religion of ancient Greece , reconstructed in and adapted to the modern world. (Within Greece, this movement may be referred to as "Ethnic" Hellenism to differentiate it from a generalized Greek cultural identity that includes affiliation with the Greek Orthodox Church .) This is also called Hellenic Polytheism, Hellenic Paganism , Greek Reconstructionism, Dodecatheism , Classical Paganism, Olympianism or simply Hellenism (Classical). Those who practice this religion are variously known as Hellenic polytheists, Hellenic
