As you know, southern portions of the United States have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The loss of property and life indicate this is one of the worst natural catastrophes in our nation’s history. It is too early to know what harm has been done to members and families of the Masonic Fraternity, their buildings and property, but we know the loss must be significant. Most Worshipful Brother Jim S. Deyo, Grand Master, has decided to appeal to the generosity of Ohio’s Freemasons and Ohio Lodges for contributions to be sent to the devastated areas. Because the Masonic Service Association (MSA) has traditionally guided such gifts through the proper channels, with no overhead costs, Grand Master Deyo has recommended that we again depend on the MSA to see that our donations reach their destination. Lodge secretaries received a copy of the appeal from the MSA and you are encouraged to send any contributions as described in their announcement. In addition, Grand Master Deyo has authorized the Grand Lodge of Ohio to send $10,000 from its emergency relief fund – the entire amount available – to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. To reach out our hands in brotherly love and relief is to practice the tenets of Freemasonry. We hope your generosity will be strong in this latest challenge.
