Our church is a small village chapel situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and easily accessible from both Manchester and Sheffield. The building is of considerable historic interest both to the general social historian, and to specialist students of Methodism and of the life of John Wesley. We have a small, but regular and caring congregation, meeting every Sunday at 10.45am, together with a Sunday school and occasional youth activities. Opened in 1782, St. Johns is the only non-conformist chapel in Hayfield, and is one of the oldest Methodist churches in the world. Research at the time of our bicentenary celebrations established it as the 13th oldest in the UK, and John Wesley himself in all probability opened it. For its historical interest and simple beauty, the chapel is a Grade 2 listed building. We particularly welcome new people to our fellowship, irrespective of their stage on life's journey, and see ourselves as a learning community seeking to build each other up. "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
