by R.J. Stewart The Underworld and Faery Tradition is a transformative initatory system involving a mysterious realm hidden deep within the land, and echoed within our human consciousness. Celtic and classical sources clearly defined this tradition and it persisted actively in folklore, tales and songs until well into the twentieth century. However, this is the first time that detailed information has been made available in modern form to the general reader.
Earthlight presents important practical methods of working within the Faery Tradition. Through powerful techniques of visualization and imagination, a set of keys to understanding ourselves is found. The Underworld and Faery Tradition leads to true healing and regeneration, both of ourselves and of the earth. back to booklist

So you see, claiming to be Celtic can mean any number of traditions. Following is a listing of some -certainly not all- of the many traditions that are in some way Celtic. On this page I've listed some of the more prominent Celtic Traditions in the Pagan Community. Most of the listings are followed by web sites where you may go to learn more if you so desire. Obviously it would be impossible to list all the Traditions that are in some way Celtic, what I've done here is include the ones that seem to have the most impact on the most people. If I've overlooked any please let me know!

Like Wicca, and like the Celtic culture upon which it is based, modern Celtic paganism embodies a strong reverence for nature."

70. What Is Wicca?
faery tradition. The origins of this tradition come from the myths and legendsof the Tuatha De Danann, the deities who are now known as Faery Folk .
http://members.aol.com/fadedone33/wicca.html
What is Wicca
Wicca, pronounced "wick-ah", is a modern religion, based upon the ancient Western European, pre-Christian shamanic traditions. (Notice I said "based upon"... Wicca itself has only been around for about 50 years or so. The traditions and beliefs however are very old and come from several of the old religions) It is fertility, earth-based and nature oriented; Wiccans recognize and worship during the change of the seasons and the full and new moons. Wicca is considered a pagan religion, which means it is not Judeo-Christian in origin. Pagan simply means "not of the city" or "country-dweller" and should not be thought of as a negative term. Wicca is unique in that it has no dogmas, docterines or set of rules. This can be confusing for new practitioners, because Wiccan practices are derived from within, are personal and individual and are not mandated by any one person, hierarchy, or "Bible". Many people brought up in an organized religion are not used to such an open and free belief system. It takes time to become comfortable in developing your religious practices from your personal experiences and knowledge, but therein lies the beauty of Wicca. Individuality is an honored trait for Wiccans, therefore, Wicca is not a "cohesive" religion. One can practice either with a coven or as a solitary, and they can worship in their own individual way. Also, some people who belong to covens may branch out and form their own coven. This is totally acceptable and it allows for a greater sharing of beliefs and of the establishment of new ideas and practices. Although Wiccan practices are unique to the individual or coven, most Wiccans have more in common with other Wiccans than they do differences.

Gothic Witchcraft Celtic Anglo-Saxon which includes Druid, Irish, Scottish, and English, as well as, many of the French, and Italian cultures. The idea of this book is to offer a planning guide for anyone looking at having a pagan handfasting ritual. The author has laid out the basic components of putting together a modern handfasting with all the romantic trimmings. There is a lot here on tradition and background. The opening of the book gives a good basic overview of handfastings and their historical background. Also further along in the book the author covers are some wedding traditions from various countries. The author includes a kind of “checklist” for organizing your event. Tips include budgeting, members of the wedding party, family and friends and writing your own commitment. The ritual part contains two basic rituals, one being pagan, or very general, and the other being “Wiccan” or path specific. The idea is that you take the basics and embellish it to suit your own spiritual or ritualistic needs. Further along in the book there are blessings, poems, and other ideas for these embellishments.

Alexandrian Wicca tends to be more liberal and accessible compared to Gardnerian Wicca. In general, its covens place emphasis on growing and changing with the times, as opposed to Gardnerian, which might be the main reason why Alexandrian Wicca still attracts new followers. Although they do have an established framework for ritual work, the rituals are formed and fit to the changing energies of the year. Each Alexandrian coven does follow a similar Gardnerian path for initiates, but the covens remain diverse and fluctuating.
Alex Sanders is known for his promotion of Wicca, and probably his most important action was the initiation of Stewart Farrar, and English journalist. Farrar later parted ways with the Alexandrian tradition, but not before publishing The Witches Way , an Alexandrian/Garnerian Book of Shadows.

This page is part of a larger tarot site. Click here to start at the top. Tarot of the Dead . Monica Knighton. 2004 Llewellyn. - "We’ve had a deck made up of Fools (Brian Williams’ Ship of Fools), so why not a deck made up of Death? This is obviously just the deck for a Grateful Deadhead or a biker. This deck is lighthearted in its imagery, an homage to the Aztec heritage Dia de los Muertos. Just as a Ship of Fools Tarot makes some sense in a historical context, when you think about the many artistic representations of death that continued long after the Black Death of 1348-1349 - to the time of Tarot’s creation and beyond, when Hans Holbein the Younger produced one of the most extensive series of artistic images on the Dance of Death in 1538 - it becomes apparent that this deck’s theme is more than a gimmick. And even if it were a gimmick, the images are amusing enough to make this a deck worth adding to the collection on that strength alone." (From my review at Tarot Passages)

(Viking, June 2004) Except it's true. While Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling didn't write the wonderful stories in the more than twenty anthologies they've brought us over the years (for a list of all of their anthologies we've reviewed at Green Man , look in our fiction index For example, in this new anthology, The Faery Reel , we have seventeen stories and three poems by authors whose work I've been reading with delight for years, and by authors I've never heard of before. The faery folk in these pieces are urban and tough, or ancient and eerie; they may be silly or deadly. Some are silly and deadly. Some of them come from the tengu and kitsune legends of Japan ("Tengu Mountain" by Gregory Frost and "Fox Wife" by Hiromi Goto). There's one here based on the Filipino faery tradition ("The Night Market" by Holly Black), and one set in the landscape of Australia ("The Shooter at the Heartrock Waterhole" by Bill Congreve). is an anthology, after all. Some of the fey folk here I recognize and love. Others make me recoil, or shake my head indignantly and mutter, "faeries are NOT like that!" Some of the stories make me laugh, like "The Oakthing" with its solid farm people and their practical approach to their fey neighbor, or the sly Asian humor in "Tengu Mountain." Others make me solemn, like "De la Tierra" by Emma Bull, with its ominous warning that we are driving the magical out of our world, or even deliberately seeking it out to destroy it.
