Evangelical Free Church of Canada ...with a heart to serve E vangelical F ree C hurch of C anada about office of the president national ministries international ministries ... home The Evangelical Free Church of Canada is an association of over 150 churches joined together by common purposes, principles and practices. It is a partner with more than 1400 Evangelical Free Churches in the United States. The Evangelical Free Church of Canada is also an active participant among 28 members of the International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches worldwide. Evangelical refers to our commitment to the authority of Scripture as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice. Free is a term that historically has designated a church as being one that was not a state-controlled church. Today, since no church in North America is state sanctioned or controlled, it has come to signify our form of church government as being congregational and the fact that Evangelical Free Churches maintain their autonomy with regard to the purchase of property, calling of pastors, setting budgets, etc. Yet they voluntarily band together interdependently and freely in missions, church planting, education, camping, publications, and other ministries. 117. Journey Together Faithfully
The evangelical Lutheran church in america studies on sexuality and homosexuality.
http://www.elca.org/faithfuljourney
INTRODUCTION
The 2001 Churchwide Assembly has mandated that this church engage in a study on homosexuality and a study on sexuality. The first is to deal with the blessing of same-gender unions and the rostering of persons in committed gay or lesbian relationships. The second is to lead to the development of a social statement on sexuality. As we embark on these two closely intertwined studies, let us consider doing so under the banner, "Journey Together Faithfully." This is both a call and a goal . Some are eager to get on with this work. Others are not. Many are apprehensive. However, our church has called upon us to share in this journey and we pray that it will be a faithful expression of our unity in Christ. more WHAT'S NEW?

120. Lutheran Maritime Ministry Of Southern California (ELCA)
evangelical Lutheran church in america ministry to seafarers, sailors and seamen in the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles and Port Hueneme.
http://www.lutheranmaritime.org/
chaplain@lutheranmaritime.org Wednesday, September 07, 2005 Home About Us Newsletters Seafarers are the lifeblood of our global economy. Without them there would not be foreign products in our stores. All you have to do is look at the labels on everything you purchase to realize that most items are imported. Ninety-five percent of all the world's cargo is moved via ships. Lutheran Maritime Ministry also is committed to working with fishers and the crew of cruise ships; the total amount of seafarers worldwide is ten million! However, most people around the world know little about these men and women and the dangers they face daily, that enables countries to interact in the global economy. Cargo ship seafarers - Most cargo ship seafarers come from the developing countries of the world. Most seafarers work 12 hours a day 7 day a week for nine months. Some seafarers make as little as $50.00 per month. The dangers of sea have not changed; weather is still a big factor, last week alone I know of two ships that were lost in the Pacific. With all the hype on the movie "The Perfect Storm" I am hoping that people will become aware of the dangers these men and women face every day at sea. There are man-made dangers also. Ship owners often try to save money by not properly maintaining their ships, since the ship and cargo are insured they risk little but the seafarers must risk all. Why do these men and women work on ships? For the money; for where they come from, there is no Welfare System, no Social Security and not enough jobs for all. For the sake of their families the seafarers give up every chance for a normal life to earn a living at sea. Container ships and Oil tankers are seldom in port more than 12 hours and many of the seafarers never leave the ship for nine months.
