A 1992 History of Bible Helps
The ministry of Bible Helps began in 1950, when a group of concerned members of the Church of the Brethren, including G. Howard Danner, Samuel M. Lehigh, David W. Lehigh, and Amos Lehigh decided to make available a Bible-teaching, Gospel message from a conservative viewpoint, in printed form. The first publication consisted of several articles written by various contributors, and ensuing issues were sent out once a month. In 1950, about 1,000 pieces were printed, and the distribution was limited to a few states. This later evolved into a publication with one featured article in each issue, written by one writer, and was sent out every other month. Brother Harold S. Martin became involved, and did a large majority of the writing for Bible Helps. The growth of Bible Helps was largely effected by "word-of-mouth" advertising.

Statement on Jerusalem Passed by General Board 12 March 1996 The Christian community throughout the world affirms its spiritual and historical roots in Jerusalem. Sacred to Jews, Muslims, and Christians, Jerusalem is also a disputed city and the symbolic center of much of the conflict in the Middle East. The status of Jerusalem will be of particular importance over the next several months because the Israelis and the Palestinians have agreed that the "final status" of Jerusalem will be determined between the parties during talks scheduled to begin in May 1996. As these talks begin, we recognize that the stakes are extremely high, as both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples claim Jerusalem as their capital. The Church of the Brethren joins with Muslims, Jews, and Christians at home and in the Middle East to support principles of justice, religious liberty and peaceful resolution of the questions of Jerusalem. For many years the Church of the Brethren has appealed for the termination of violence and counter-violence by all parties in the Middle East, opposed the Israeli acquisition of land by force, and has stressed the importance of international efforts to assure the legitimate rights of self-determination for the Palestinian people as well as the legitimate security interests of Israel. Specifically, in relation to the city of Jerusalem, we also affirm the following principles.

The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - Prague 10 Strašnice
A few Words about the Church
The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren is a Christian church containing traditions of Czech and European reformation, founded in 1918 by the connection of two protestant currents: the Lutheran and the Calvin one. It is a church based on testimony of the Bible, first of all on the gospel. Though some of its traditions go back up to the 15th century, it tries to be a modern church dealing with up-to-date world’s problems. Its organization is formed by principles of democracy. Since its foundation in 1930 until the summer 2001, the congregational house hadn’t been reconstructed and so its facade remained the same. Original colors couldn’t been recognized any longer, the house became one of gray buildings in a gray street for many years. Just a copper chalice with the Bible at the front wall announced the difference from other houses – but even this was damaged and hard to be noticed. There was a need for reconstruction for a long time, but first for inside rooms and for the roof of the assembly hall. Nowadays the facade is brand new with new front doors and with reconstructed chalice above them. In the opposite of the original look, remained on photographs, the new surface has changed both colors and a few of “important details”. It is not the end of itself. The author of the design, Ondøej Smolík, an architecture student, says:

Dear friends, Someone once said that the church is the only cooperative society in the world that exists for the benefit of its non-members. At PPH, we seek to live in a manner that reflects the reality and vitality of our relationship with a loving God. The love of God compels us to love those around us in practical ways, and to share the joy and peace that the Lord Jesus Christ brings to our lives. Your feedback is therefore very important to us. We welcome your comments and suggestions on how we may serve you better

  • Founder: Alexander Mack
  • Date of Birth:
  • Birth Place: Schrisheim in Germany
  • Year Founded: Brief History: With the end of the Thirty Years War in 1648, the German principalities were given the freedom to choose between the Catholic, Lutheran or German Reformed traditions as their established faiths. But the established churches were not satisfactory for some. Pietism began to gain influence among people who felt that the churches were too mechanical. Alexander Mack agreed with the pietists position that there was a needfor a more personal and spiritual experience in religion. But unlike the pietist who believed that baptism was merely spiritual, he believed in adult baptism and the importance of water in the baptismal act (Brubaker, 2). On a summer day in 1708, Alexader Mack rebaptized eight people in the river Eder, thus initiating the "Brethren movement." The Brethren, officially known as the German Baptists throughout the nineteenth century (Melton, 441), mixed pietism with the Anabaptist tradition, blending a renewed emphasis on spirituality with the Anabaptist emphasis on outward expression of faith. They were specially influenced by the
