According to "C.S." you probably aren't if you're the kind of mother who might have said to your child, "You look sick," "You look tired," "You need rest," or "You need medicine." What is C.S.? Back to that in a moment; but first, have you ever made statements like these to your little ones? If you have, then you should be alerted to the proclamation that: "Such a mother runs to her little one, who thinks she has hurt her face by falling on the carpet, and says, moaning more childishly than her child, `Mamma knows you are hurt.' The better and more successful method for any mother to adopt is to say, `Oh never mind! You're not hurt, so don't think you are.' Presently the child forgets all about the accident, and is at play." These words come from the book of a woman who is one of the most well-known, religious and historical characters from America. These quotes are found in her book

Subscribe for free Jihad means "striving or struggling in the way of God." It is a central concept in Islam. Muslims should strive to know and do the will of God. Historically, the "greater" jihad refers to the struggle each person has within him or herself to do what is right. Because of human pride, selfishness and sinfulness, people of faith must constantly wrestle with themselves and strive to do what is right and good. The "lesser" jihad involves the outward defense of Islam. Muslims should be prepared to defend Islam, including military defense, when the community of faith is under attack. While the vast majority of Muslims clearly reject the violent extremism manifest on Sept. 11, some religiously inspired and politically motivated individuals and groups attempt to justify their behavior in the context of a holy war or struggle in defense of Islam.

  • Name: The Church of Christ, Scientist; Christian Science
  • Founder: Mary Baker Eddy
  • Dates of Birth and Death: July 16, 1821 - December 3, 1910
  • Birthplace: Bow, New Hampshire
  • Year Founded:
The Church of Christ, Scientist was founded in 1879 in Lynn, Massachusetts. Eddy's book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures , first appeared in 1875.
  • Sacred or Revered Texts:
The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures are primary texts used for individual study and spiritual growth. Together they are the foundation for Christian Science teaching and practice, and are used during church services, as well. Eddy ordained these books as a "dual and impersonal pastor" for these services. According to the Church's official Web site, followers use both books to "unlock The Bible . . ." It was the specific mission of Science and Health to give the world this key to the Scriptures-to open up their treasures and enable everyone to use them."

Negative sentiments are typically implied when the concepts "cult" and "sect" are employed in popular discourse. Since the Religious Movements Homepage seeks to promote religious tolerance and appreciation of the positive benefits of pluralism and religious diversity in human cultures, we encourage the use of alternative concepts that do not carry implicit negative stereotypes. (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures - 1875, by Mary Baker Eddy, viii:28 - The Christian Science Publishing Society, Boston, Mass.) The discovery of the Science of Christ healing came four years later in conjunction with a momentous healing of her own, that of a spinal injury incurred from a fall which had left her struggling for her life. The healing came about instantaneously, completely, and apparently effortlessly. This healing was realized in a moment of her greatest need. As her custom was, she had reached for her Bible and began contemplating the healing works of Christ Jesus, who had called himself both the Son of God, and the Son of Man. She reckoned that his marvelous healing works reflected certain fundamental truths and principles, reflected in universal natural laws that had enabled Jesus' works to be done. She reasoned that nothing happens in the real world that has not a fundamental universal principle supporting it, that allows things to happen, lawfully, and that such principles are not time dependent, but are ever operating, and are equally effective whenever they are applied. In other words, she realized that Christ Jesus' works reflect certain conditions of reality that apply to everyone and for all times.

NATO used ammunition and weaponry made of depleted uranium during its air strikes on Yugoslavia in 1999. Suspicious deaths and illnesses among Europeans exposed to the substance are prompting investigators to examine DU's health risks. The United States has denied any link between illnesses and exposure to depleted uranium.

The church was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in following her own personal healing experience, which she believed to be the result of her Christian faith. The Bible and Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures are together the church's key doctrinal sources. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Christian Science Monitor is an international newspaper published daily, Monday through Friday. Started in by Mary Baker Eddy , the founder of the Church of Christ, Scientist , the paper does not use wire services and instead relies largely on its own reporters in bureaus in eleven countries around the world. Reporters at one time were drawn largely from church members but this no longer holds true. Despite its name, the Monitor was not established to be a religious -themed paper, nor does it directly promote the doctrine of its patron church. However, at its founder Eddy's request, a daily religious article has appeared in every issue of the Monitor . Eddy also required the inclusion of " Christian Science " in the paper's name, over initial opposition by some of her advisors who thought the religious reference might repel a secular audience.
